I highly disagree in the sense of most people. Everyone I have known in the situation have put it towards a house or it was so low they just took the cash for bills. I think most will keep it in investments if its quite substantial maybe but many people die having already had to sell off assets and reverse morgages and all kinds of things.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah. doing a bad job could even save lives. it would be a moral duty to screwup /s (yes I know that is not how it works)

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I agree its stupid but the original idea was larger and had a transit system going down it. I think that was the concept. To sorta maximize transit as you did not need to branch it off to go to various places.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah. I was just pointing out there was a reason. I have been thinking about it in the back of my head today. How valuable is it and is it worth it. When I look at my city metro its basically a hub and spoke and what you see is that most of the spokes are around 15-20 miles out from downtown and I know they have been extended so I think closer to 15 for the original spans. Im thinking this gets to what that other lemmy user said. Having a commute where you go from the end of one spoke downtown to the end of the other would stink. Since there are multiple spokes that are mor places to live that are sorta in that magic 15-20 mile distance. Our metra is similar but goes way farther out but also has way fewer stops. So it can be farther out without being to bad. All the same those branches tend to stop once the commute from downtown is about an hour or so. Im guessing that really the circular city type thing is the way to go and likely why most are like that barring natural barriers like oceans or whatnot.

I understand the concern about the future and we have seen overbloated projects have issues. In the long run though I will use what works best for me and only get into philosophical comparisons if im making the choice between relatively equal options.

I guess linux as its more likely to be a phone.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I live in the chicago area and prices have doubled at least. Even on the cheapest stuff. Many things are 3-5 times higher. I don't know where you are shopping?

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I don't even know of any in the chicago area anymore. our meijer closed up before the pandemic hit. I actually have sorta the same issue. I am pretty aware of the increase in most items but rice and beans keep for long and so I don't buy them often. Im not sure of the price of them back when I was not fretting over my grocery bill. I only really buy lentils though as they are easy to make in the rice cooker.

the economy is not great but he has changed the trajectory. it took obama two terms to normalize after bush jr and unfortunately it was not so great that trump did not make it way worse. ironically mostly by not continuing gradual interest rate increases which forced the severe ones now.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

most of the increases were actually before this last year. im not sure that is the best time frame. at least for me the big effects where seen in a year or two of inflation but its tapped down now comparatively.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

main problem is it should not use any examples of actual stuff. it should all be trained on licenesed anime.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

its worse living in a condo. The chance everyone will put in appropriate things 100% each week to the recycling dumpster is pretty much nill and then it gets mixed up in a truck with the other area condos. I wash my stuff but am almost certain its all going to landfills.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

What really gets me is when I was young there was little to no plastic and we had plenty of convenience food with mainly paper, glass, and metal.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

came to basically say this.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

im also going to study the night before. I by and large did not do all nighter nonsense but I don't stop studying because its in 24 hours.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I have never seen this except in the most gimmicky manner around me.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

plugin hybrids to me are an important step. If it can do 10 miles without starting to use gas and the person plugs it in they will use very little gas.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I mean for myself I could not plug one in and if you ever have dealt with a community like a condo getting permission to one off is only overshadowed by trying to get the place to improve the infrastructure overall in impossibility. I sorta hope incentives or regulations come along to make such changes easier.

Can somebody explain why game makers don't start their own companies together?

It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I'm reading is that it's a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors' pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Why does anyone who works not make their own company? It takes capital and a certain skill set as well as a risk tolerance.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

ok but im often naked and old.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I have no good reply. tried several in my head but they are all meh at best.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

website.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

agree here. Im guessing because of the massive control apps give the places. I can no script my browser.

harry and davids for food. drink is sorta hard. I would be trying a ton of kabucha type drinks and soda alternatives sweetened with mongfruit or such.

When you get a call from a middle-aged male coworker who had tried to coerce you (younger female) into letting him drop you off at home on a Saturday night: do you call back, text, email, or ignore?

Please read post for full context; any help or input is appreciated! I disclosed sensitive info to a close female coworker (let's say Ann), who is best friends with the male coworker mentioned (Ned). I'm sure she told him, but then they both seemed to want me to still tell him directly. I did because I believe in doing the right...

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Being a guy I have always been aware of slimey guys and even I found the "typical" male to be aweful. I realized females sorta had their own thing with that but it always seen it as not quite as scary a level as jerk males. That being said my wife has had experiences and I am telling you now to get the fuck away from both of them as much as possible. avoid being alone with either of them if you have to interact with them. They are predators and they see you as prey. By no means stay on good terms with Ann. Just because she is a woman does not mean she would not want things happening to her that she would not want for yourself. Go watch the original version of wes cravens "The Last House on the Left". Im sorry but assume Ann is sadie from the film.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

One more thing. Be careful of eating or drinking anything either of them might have had access to you that you alone are consuming. Seriously. The whole car thing is one step away from ruffying.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

this is why we can't have nice bad things.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah. Im happily surprised the article itself was not about the conspiracy nonsense.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I have heard that stanis flouride causes this but not sodium floride.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

thats brilliant really. I should highly consider that myself. although in this case it would not apply. I mean its often but still likely under 50% of my posts. mmmmmmm.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I don't think bringing attention to conspiracy theories as conspiracy theories is bad. If anything its a good thing. I mean if it was the about the lizard aliens or flat earthers it would be the same.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

the other side of the coin is then its the "truth" mainstream media is hiding. ¯_ (ツ)_/¯

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

not sure about no future but certainly a shitier one all around. but yeah I don't know how anyone is not aware that 1.5 is a long past pipe dream at this point.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah and for sure that pollution china is making is all for domestic uses so its all on them /s

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

Im athiest but I have no issue with conversation as long as its polite. I would regularly discuss christianity with a nice old lady who was a jehovas witness. she handed out slips but was not pushy or rude. I would discuss and even said I would for the sake of conversation assume the bible is real. She took my views in stride that you would think would upset someone from such a fundamentalist faith. If people did not want to talk to her though she did not bother them or such.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I think there are many that understand how grave it is but for someone of us we can't do anything much more effective than not reproduce although we also try what we can with reducing, reusing, recycling and such.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

https://zorin.com/os/ its an out of the box distro that specifically tries to emulate the windows feel. In particular it has play on linux installed by default making running windows programs when needed as easy as it can be. the out of the box is office type stuff really though so you will have to install blender and such.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

im not really a beginner myself but Im lazy and this point and just want a system up and running asap. if I was not using it I would likely use puppy because I like the read only core.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

non australian scrolling down all. Please tell me this is australian broadcasting company or something and not american broadcasting company that disney owns???

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

ah ok. I can relate as we have pbs which is sorta the same thing I think.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

our pbs does have its own program. news and childrens being the more frequent along with science. Im actually not sure if they are umbrella over all stuff as we also have npr which is pretty much radio. What makes us wierd is there is some national funding but local stations have to fundraise and have closed up shop do to lack of subscribers. My city also had a station associated with the community colleges but im not sure how that worked. Im pretty sure the local stations then pay a fee for the content they run from the national org so they still depend on the local charity drives. On the one had its bs that our country does not fund this stuff well enough but on the other hand I think it would keep something like this happening as folks would stop giving.

HubertManne ,

oh man. im hyped just seeing a reference to this game.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

im pretty sure I have already seen this.

@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

holy shit. thats the EU anthem. its sorta a terrifying song. maybe just because of clockwork orange for me.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

alternate lyrics? I sung this as part of a chorus. its a german song unless I got them confused. froin de sher ner ger ter funk en talk ter ouse illusium. thats my lousy phonetic though not the german words.

How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals

I constantly see angry mobs of people decrying "woke", "critical race theory", ""grooming"", and whatever other nonsense they made up this week. They march around with guns, constantly appending lib as a prefix to any word they can use to denigrate. They actively plot violence and spew hatred in the open....

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yeah they did not really outright embrace it till trump. what he says is terrifying.

HubertManne ,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

why would I look for that. That is the extreme. left does not star way on the left more than right starts way on the right. Its like saying someone is not right unless they are against any social program or public property of any kind.
