[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don't come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don't really get upset by it...

I think its the extreme. The idea of reducing meat consumption over eliminating it is not met kindly by many vegans and vegan communities. I also see a lot of down play of the nutrient challenge discussion. Now like anything on the internet the extremes tend to be the most vocal. I have personally known vegans who are pretty happy if people are even reducing meat consumption at all or being lacto/ovo pescatarians or such. Its really bad as sometimes the message is if your not going to go full on vegan than your personally responsible for destroying the planet (much like all responsibility for palastinian suffer is because joe bidens the one doing the genocidin) and you might as well eat meat at every meal. The reaction of this for non vegans is very often F these folks and you know what I think I will go out and have a triple bacon cheese burger right now because they taste great.

Way back they had these free dating classifieds in a local city paper. So I wrote mine in a bit self debasing manner and he wrote his like he was trying to bs his way into a job. Later I got calls and he did not and he was like. wtf. you get calls with your ad saying your fat and lazy. Just for the record I did not say that (he was colorfully paraphrasing) but I did say that I don't excersise while talking about likeing to be active and how I like more relaxed things. Anway I explained it to him in some way why this was so but to colorfully paraphrase its because mine seemed genuine (and indeed it was) while his seemed like bullshit (and indeed it was). I actually do that somewhat with cover letters for jobs. Are there girls and or jobs that will not respond. Sure. But those are likely ones I don't want anyway. They likely suck. and not in a good way.

I could see this. I have a good transit system and at one point had a great pattern of riding in morning and brining my bike on the train on the way back. If I went both ways It was like you said the next day and sometimes even the day after. So the motivation was way down going both ways.

Yes but I think thats a bit the same with all media. There is still tons of relatively recent anime that is really unique like attack on titan or To Your Eternity or even spy family.

Im sorta a poser when it comes to fandom. I like stuff but I don't have the obsession that drives really getting into a lot of details. So I totally don't know are styles and such. Its sorta like museums. I like to go and I like what I like but I don't necessarily have great depth of knowledge of art style or periods or such. Its only due to memes that I know the getting sucked into a fantasy world has a name and I can't even recall that atm. I mean I could google it right now but I just don't care much that the particular term is X but if someone mentions it in a convo I will likely remember that what they are talking about with context clues. im thinking its like ikea with an s somewhere and i or something.

    for folks who won't move off windows. portable apps. install it to a folder in the hard drive and when they update machines show them how you just copy it to the new machine. Only downside is it might lessen the incentive to just get off of windows. I would sorta like something like that with an emulator and an ability to run software on any architecture.

    I don't know if its lemmy or other parts of the federation but I see plenty of drug and other stuff that I guess could be manually done but my guess is its bots.

    First-time home buyers: how did you feel about getting a mortgage?

    An option for me to buy a house has come up very suddenly and it seemed like a good idea at first - but I look at a mortgage and think "that's 15 years I'll spend paying back, at absolute minimum. Probably more like 25 years" - how can I possibly plan that far in advance?...

    Its generally a good move but people can oversell it. Taxes will go up even if the mortgage is fixed. You can't move easily if you need to go work someplace else or such. Upkeep is a thing and will cost. You can't easily drop your monthly nut if you lose your job or such. That being said my general rule of thumb is if you can afford a 20% down payment and 15 year fixed and its somewhere you would like to live you should do it. Get a 30 year but make payments like its a 15 year and if you get into a crunch make the normal payment. If all goes well you will be in good stead and if you have to sell you should come out ahead. If you can't do that much of a down payment then definitely think about it hard and I personally think if your doing a balloon or variable rate your asking for trouble.

    yes this. I used to work at a university where the raises were like 1 or 2 percent below inflation. Half the years I worked there was no raise because it was low inflation times. Going into the public sector I generally got about inflation but when infaltion went haywire the raises stayed the same.

    honestly its the heavy emphasis on morality that caused the evolution and growth as well as the splintering. They actually thought about what was right and wrong and see where they had it wrong and allowed current knowledge to be used. Im by no means trying to praise a religion but this is why you get the evolution to unitarian universalist.

    yup. it reminds me a bit of nixon. growing up I understood he was bad but boy how rabidly upset he would make folks older than I. I did not get it but then I learned more and more about his actions and understood over time. Reagan same but experienced it. One thing is you don't even know the real bad stuff till its to late. People still don't seem to understand iran contra or the october surprise. effed up. now we just had trump. can you imagine the stuff we don't know yet. ugh.

    im only willing to expand my media diet so far. If a source has proved to be purveyers of false infromation in the past it wastes my cycles to take them into account in case they have improved their standards. One thing though is to recognize independent bodies. Like im fine with fox chicago news but not fox cable news.

    both those examples though are ones I won't bother taking into account as they are both bad sources. One thing I do like though is the improve the news algorithm thing that is on the fediverse. The algorithm is interesting but the really big thing is it aggragates news articles around a topic. Usually at least a dozen sources.

    Keep in mind im not saying these sources are above reproach and should not still have their stories critically evaluated or that any one of these sources should be used without corroporation but again I like that improve the enws thing, npr, bbc, my cities local news stations, reuters. Also when it comes to the internet many people post things that come from the sources sites but are not news articles. anytime its an opinion page or such you can't include it.

    man. where im at winter is almost disappearing. not sure how I feel about it. well outside of the terror of how unnatural it is.

    What would it take for you to stop using the internet or go minimalist on the usage?

    I think for me, the internet would have to be totally eclipsed by the enshittification process, for me to revise how I use it and what for. I've been online for 28 years now and I am beginning to slow down more and more as time goes on. I used to have been a community seeker, an explorer and a very curious person....

    oh yeah but when I say the bar is ridiculously low I mean like taking into account all the presidents I have had experience with. Im like old and to have biden be the best to me is sorta sad. previously I felt the same way with obama and the current pope. I feel like there should be a sign saying you must be at least this competent to be president with their picture and most of the presidents would then be disqualified. Like this is the crappiest you can be to hold the office. instead (at least for me) they are the best. Im not even comparing to trump now who is so opposite end of the spectrum and did the monumental achievement of making bush junior not seem so bad (yes yes. I know thats debatable as his random crazy sellout stupid is hard to measure against calculating power for us by which im talking channey of course).
