I have a pocket-sized solar panel I bought intending to charge my phone on the go. When it arrived and I tried it out I remembered that I live in bloody Auckland, New Zealand, where we've never actually seen the sun, so that was a bust.

It's the palm trees. They'll fool ya.

It's starting to seem a little like some of the people making beer have never tried one.

Marmite itself is fine. If anyone ever offers you the chance to try Marmite-flavoured anything, give it a pass. It just doesn't work.

I tried durian pancakes at an Asian market once, and didn't see what all the fuss was about. It tasted kinda coconut-y and onion-y, but not enough to be a big deal.

Ten minutes later I burped and realised I had made a terrible mistaking eating those things.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

How long did you think about it?

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I like it on toast. It's also good in cheese sandwiches.

But do keep in mind that it's essentially just flavoured salt, so you don't need as much of it as you think.

I’m making a DnD and Pathfinder setting inspired by Ancient India! ( ttrpg.network )

Hi, my name is Khan and I am the person behind Devabhumi. I am of Indian origin, and I have always been interested in non-European rpg settings. There is such a treasure trove of untapped stories, monsters, and legends in Indian Culture, which can provide fresh and unique content for your campaigns. Devabhumi is a high fantasy...

Looks like that link doesn't go external. It might need to be edited.

Sounds like an interesting project. Can you give us more detail? What are the new races? What effect does the karma mechanic have? Will dungeon delving be your game loop?

What band or music group would you not have minded if they didn't have a certain band member? ( kbin.social )

My pick is Five Finger Death Punch and the obvious answer is Ivan Moody. The guy radiates that alpha-male wannabe energy and it definitely rings through all of the songs he has written and performed with this band. The guy is just a prick and a self-victimizing asshole....

I'd be more likely to listen to AC/DC without Brian Johnson. He hasn't done anything wrong (that I know of) and he's a talented vocalist, but that rasping voice of his makes me wince every time I hear it. Does he gargle glass shards?

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

That's not a tantrum, that's your fingertips thinking "hmmm, we've been wet for a while... I'd better increase my surface area for better grip so I can execute a sweet hip throw on the next attacker I encounter." Your body wants to develop its innate kung fu potential!

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I can see why. I'm sure even a minor pothole becomes a major problem when you're travelling at record-breaking speed.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I stand corrected.

@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

It's less about the splash and more about the microscopic sprays of faecal bacteria. You don't want that E. Coli on your toothbrush.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I've never read FATAL, but I've read plenty about it. And I'm glad it exists, because it makes every other RPG better just by virtue of not being FATAL.

I keep reading articles about quantum physics in the hope that some day I'll spot some kind of pattern that turns out to be the key to understanding it. No luck yet.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I had a boss who used to say the same thing. He was telling us "We didn't set this dumpster on fire, but somehow it's our job to handle it. No point bitching, so roll your sleeves up and get to it." I've started saying the same thing for the same reason.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

You do it every day whether you choose to or not, because that's how the human brain works. So yes. Just be willing to change your ideas when a generalisation is no longer useful.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, I do. Olives are great on pizza and in salad. You're wrong, but there's still time for you to see the light.

@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Some of them are stuffed with garlic instead of pimentos. Surely that must rev your tastebuds?

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

If it means this conversation ends that much sooner, sure.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Think I got the plague, doc. What can you prescribe me?

A drop bear got my auntie. All they found was her eskie... empty.

Never borrow money from a man whose first name is "The" and never gamble with a man whose first name is a city.

My current party's druid made constitution his dump stat. No, I don't know why. We do want him with us in the forest, but at the back where it's safe.

In a couple of levels, yeah...

Following the ancient traditions, I'm here to tell you that you picked the wrong distro. 😉

But welcome aboard.

Mint for gaming, because it's nice to have a rock-solid OS that doesn't need much beyond updates in terms of maintenance. Arch for hobby tinkering, because voiding warranties is fun.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

I'm sure it's great but I've had no issue on Mint.

The videogame industry has been lurching from crisis to crisis for as long as I've been paying attention. I'm starting to think that's their business model.

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Sometimes I tell myself "since I'm gloomy anyway, might as well do some housework". And then the house looks nicer and it helps.

Unlike in history, we don’t really lose information anymore.

We've developed an unfortunate habit of locking it behind paywalls, though.

[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don't come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don't really get upset by it...

spittingimage , (edited )
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

In this thread: a lot of confused vegans refusing to acknowledge the behaviour of other vegans and explaining why non-vegans' experiences with them are wrong.

There's a new classics station in my city, playing music from the 90s, 00s and 10s. I've been listening to it almost exclusively. Based on that I'm going to say it wasn't, but we've forgotten about the stuff we didn't like.

@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Everyone pre-heats their oven! ...Don't they?

spittingimage ,
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

It’s fun at first,

You answered your own question.

@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

Do you really need me to teach you that people do fun things as well as useful things?

Hostel probably isn't the most fucked-up movie I've watched, but it's the one that affected me most strongly. I felt physically sick during the scene where

the children kill the bait girl.

Haven't watched a gory movie since.

If you could take a single character out of a piece of media (book, film, TV show, video game, etc) who would it be?

They would lose any magical powers they may have had in the book, but anything they are, rather than can do, will stay. For example people from the His Dark Materials world would keep their daemons. You can take them out at any time in the story's plot, but for all other people consuming the media, it will be shown that the...

I was going to say Jar Jar Binks, but now I won't.

It's kind of weird that English became a universal language. There must have been better choices.
