This is me when I accidentally killed a Whimsun in Undertale and didn't bother resetting because I thought I could still get a pacifist ending as long as my LV hadn't gone up. Though at the end of the day I guess it was fine since I got to test all the mean and flirty options that I hadn't picked before.

I'm not old enough to have used Limewire myself, but my dad used eMule to download some songs and movies that we liked in the early 2000s.

Still, at 24 I'm basically middle-aged in internet years.

Not to sound like a Twitter wokescold or whatever, but Shaun does this all the time. A cishet white guy from England who won't be affected in any way by the outcome of the U.S. election, yet constantly tweets and retweets about how the Democrats and Republicans are totally equally bad and voting makes no difference.

But when we look at what Republicans are doing and saying like...

  • Trump saying he'll be a "dictator for one day"

  • His lawyers arguing that a president killing an opponent should be considered an official act protected by law

  • The potential Republican vice-candidate bragging about shooting a puppy and other farm animals

  • Reports that DeSantis enjoyed torturing people at Guantanamo

  • Multiple Republican politicians and pundits calling for the eradication of trans people

I think this take doesn't hold up. It's no coincidence that many of the people with this mentality are also the ones who'll be minimally affected by a Republican presidency, if at all.

One that I really like is Dear David by Adam Ellis. And yeah yeah, I know that he's going for the usual "true ghost story" marketing shtick or whatever, but these stories that don't just use cheap jumpscares and instead build a sense of constant threat and impending doom are the ones that make it harder for me to sleep at night.

I heard that the movie is trash though 🙈

Capybaras are pretty common in the area where I live, and really throughout most of Brazil. Don't get me wrong, we still think they're pretty cute, but I've seen some Americans get really excited about them.

Oh, and the maned wolf. To be fair, I think they're pretty neat too.

Transgender activists flood Utah tip line with hoax reports to block bathroom law enforcement ( apnews.com )

Transgender activists have flooded a Utah tip line created to alert state officials to possible violations of a new bathroom law with thousands of hoax reports in an effort to shield trans residents and their allies from any legitimate complaints that could lead to an investigation. ...

I think there were much better ways for the Legislature to go about addressing their concerns, rather than this ham-handed approach.

You mean the made up concerns about trans women in bathrooms that have no basis whatsoever in reality? Maybe the legislature should be more concerned with improving the lives of their constituents, or the fact that Utah has one of the highest CSA rates in the country.

Sadly no, as some states don't have data for all the years or choose to not participate altogether. One example is Florida, which recently withdrew from the survey because they had "grave concerns" about the survey’s "inflammatory and sexualized" content: https://www.floridapolicy.org/posts/its-time-to-reinstate-the-youth-risk-behavior-survey

You can see the results for all available states and years here though: https://nccd.cdc.gov/Youthonline/App/Results.aspx?TT=K&OUT=0&SID=HS&QID=H20&LID=LL&YID=YY&LID2=&YID2=&COL=T&ROW1=N&ROW2=N&HT=QQ&LCT=LL&FS=S1&FR=R1&FG=G1&FA=A1&FI=I1&FP=P1&FSL=S1&FRL=R1&FGL=G1&FAL=A1&FIL=I1&FPL=P1&PV=&TST=&C1=&C2=&QP=G&DP=1&VA=CI&CS=Y&SYID=&EYID=&SC=DEFAULT&SO=ASC

game.load_player()
game.load_enemies()
game.load_audio()
game.run()

Although I don't have kids everything I've heard about the Ruby Franke/8 Passengers case made my blood boil. That scumbag saw her kids as nothing but a way to get clicks and money, and I'm glad that she's going to rot in prison.

And related to this, add animal abuse to the list of things that make my blood boil too. It's wild to think that until recently there was such a thing as a thriving "monkey torture network".

Emergency Slide Falls Off Plane, Winds Up At Home Of Lawyer Whose Firm Is Suing Boeing ( www.huffpost.com )

An emergency slide that fell off of a Delta passenger jet shortly after take-off last week reportedly turned up two days later outside the home of a lawyer whose firm is coincidently suing the Boeing plane manufacturer over safety issues....

As someone who studied CS at uni for 3 years I saw first hand how there's plenty of idiots in this field. Two of my classmates identified as Nazis and thought that the holocaust didn't happen, besides a significant chunk leaning to the right more generally.

There's plenty of really smart people working in the field of AI, but there's also plenty of people who just think they're smart.

I call people by their preferred pronouns because this is something that's completely inconsequential and meaningless to me. But the same kind of argument can be made against you: "So you're saying taking "no" for an answer is a great difficulty for you?"

If I traveled to some country where a particular religion - let's call it X - was the most common, and in X people were ascribed different pronouns based on some rules or rituals, I would call them by their preferred pronouns because as an atheist and moral anti-realist that's just not something important to me. But if a Christian felt uncomfortable doing so because it goes against their religion their position is just as valid - arguably it's more valid since in this example the people from X religion are asking the Christian to change their vocabulary, while the Christian isn't asking anything anything of the people from X religion.

Ragdoll_X ,
@Ragdoll_X@lemmy.world avatar

You're moving the goalpost as treating other races as equals and using different pronouns are not the same thing, but again the argument can be turned against you: Why are you rude towards Christians simply because they prefer to use a different pronoun when referring to you? Is taking "no" for an answer such a great difficulty?

A while back on R*ddit I had this discussion with a “libertarian” where they unironically defended the idea that local communities should be able to dictate people’s clothes. For leftists “freedom” means expanding and protecting the rights of the people, while for them it literally just means “freedom to oppress others”.

I’ve always liked Kbin’s design and funcionality more than Lemmy, but the latter is more popular and sometimes posts/comments won’t load properly on Kbin, so I’ve stuck with Lemmy for now.

Everything I see in the news about how the dems are bending over backwards to please republicans leads me to believe that the senior democratic party members are genuinely just fucking stupid.

I guess that’s to be expected since half of them are like 300 years old, but it’s still really annoying to watch them just let democracy be destroyed for the sake of decorum.

You can and should read the full report here. Several experts and researchers who work in a variety of fields relevant to gender and youth healthcare reviewed hundreds of studies, commissioned several literature reviews, and conducted thousands of interviews with gender diverse children, their families and healthcare providers to reach their conclusions.

To dismiss them as “conservatives who just hate other humans” and handwave away a 388-page report that took more than 3 years to complete by vaguely gesturing at some nondescript “statistics” would be extremely shortsighted.

Musk Admits He Doesn't Fact-Check Himself and Has Two Burner Accounts on Twitter ( www.rollingstone.com )

Elon Musk‘s erratic posting on X, formerly Twitter, has come back to haunt him once again as a 22-year-old Jewish man pursues a defamation case over tweets in which the tech mogul baselessly suggested the recent college graduate was an undercover federal agent posing as a neo-Nazi during a street fight between far-right...

Ragdoll_X , (edited )
@Ragdoll_X@lemmy.world avatar

An entertaining read that further cements Musk as an honest-to-god unhinged idiot. I’ve seen a lot of people speculate that him buying Twitter and tanking its value was some kind of genius plot, but the simpler explanation is that he’s just unironically stupid and a bad businessman.

The fact that he has another burner account which he uses to get around blocks and hurl insults at others is both really funny and completely expected. I’m willing to bet a signed dollar that he has yet another alt that he uses to lean even further right and say the N-word on a regular basis.

Ragdoll_X , (edited )
@Ragdoll_X@lemmy.world avatar

You’re definitely not an AI, @IsThisAnAI, because an AI wouldn’t be stupid enough to defend Musk. Even Grok wouldn’t do that.
