Seven out of 10 Europeans believe their country takes in too many immigrants ( english.elpais.com )

Europeans view immigration with increasing suspicion. Seven out of 10 Europeans believe that their country takes in too many migrants, according to a survey carried out by BVA Xsight for ARTE Europe Weekly, a project led by the French-German TV channel ARTE GEIE and which EL PAÍS has participated in, as part of the countdown to...

It's just that the austerity cuts on basic living necessities create more instability, for native-born and new members of a society. But that's probably the purpose, masses are easier to control when they struggle and are helpless

boredtortoise ,

The US center right is Dems. They're not good at all but definitely milder than their and Europe's far right.

boredtortoise ,

boredtortoise ,

Min svensk är dåligt jag vet

Mentioned this elsewhere; With the upcoming European trip including Hungary, China keeps finding right wing partners, and unusually often from the ultra/alt/anti-EU reactionary sects. Wonder why they don't collaborate with left

And after the news about what's going on in Africa, their imperialism seems to have racial/racist/xenophobic subjucative motives as well

boredtortoise ,

Maybe you misunderstood, the relationship and actions with China in Africa seem to have racism

boredtortoise ,

EU nations could proactively promote progressive activism in the population of Russia and white hat hacking to disable Russian state cyber & resource infrastructure.

Last paragraph is interesting (emphasis mine)

Helsinki District Court handed Vastaamo's former CEO Ville Tapio a three-month suspended prison sentence in April last year on a data protection charge because he did not fulfil General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements. This verdict was appealed by both Tapio and the prosecutor, and the appeal hearing will begin in May 2025.

Apparently iirc the company had no security at all. Kivimäki didn't 'hack'; the username & password was some default setup. Not to take away from his assholery, but the responsibility for this horrific case doesn't seem to apply in a justified manner.

Edit here's more of that from another article

Ville Tapio, the former CEO of Vastaamo, was fired and also prosecuted following the breach. Ransom_man bragged about Vastaamo’s sloppy security, noting the company had used the laughably weak username and password “root/root” to protect sensitive patient records.

Investigators later found Vastaamo had originally been hacked in 2018 and again in 2019. In April 2023, a Finnish court handed down a three-month sentence for Tapio, but that sentence was suspended because he had no previous criminal record.

Tapio should get a prison sentence as well instead of a few months of house arrest / electronic surveillance. Absolutely criminally complicit

It has the potential to be meaningful in the right time and in the right place but generally it's just a transaction of skills to survive, and have some means to have a fulfilling life outside of work.

US military ships are working to build a pier for Gaza aid. It's going to cost at least $320 million ( apnews.com )

A U.S. Navy ship and several Army vessels involved in an American-led effort to bring more aid into the besieged Gaza Strip are offshore of the enclave and building out a floating platform for the operation that the Pentagon has said will cost at least $320 million. ...

boredtortoise ,

The pier is for the offshore resources Israel and USA want, not aid

Capitalism didn't work and we never got democracy. But the same applies to the fascism with communist branding prevalent in Asia. A new plan is definitely needed and actual communism should have aspects on the table.

boredtortoise ,

How about doing something instead of just saying it

boredtortoise ,

Antidemocratic bad actors can't take part in a democracy (if the current system could be even called that with its flaws). It's not about banning parties (or opinions as they like to frame it). There's an apparent lack of safety mechanisms to prevent abuse

boredtortoise ,

Ideally yes, education would be enough, but as these systems lack national and EU level safeties, education is being dismantled and information warfare has a greater efficiency. There's no time to rely that people will self correct just by improving their knowledge, people generally don't have a motive for being informed when they're trying to survive.

boredtortoise ,

Yeah I'm definitely also criticizing national lack of action

boredtortoise ,

Global news communities in instances like beehaw or lemmy.world seem to have predominantly communist and leftist posters. The nazbols congregate on their own famous three instances.

boredtortoise ,

Or Juche, Maoism, Leninism, Stalinism...

boredtortoise , (edited )

Were the reports false or were the authoritarians false?

What does a decision to rely on ad hominem display... A deeper stalking would brittle it down tho

boredtortoise ,

Sure. That's a phrase which also works. And when English isn't everyone's first, or even second, language, either way is fine as long as the intended message is interpreted somewhat

boredtortoise ,

Let's just skip the euphemisms and use 'dictatorship of the bourgeoisie'

boredtortoise ,

Bourgeois democracy is a separate term. It can describe something like European nations voting between which bourgeoisie will rule the proletariat. The more you know.

boredtortoise , (edited )

You scratch some accuratish points now that the comment is redone from the pre-edit slip-up.

Let's sum it all to the audience:
Western capitalist states are being agitated with far-right surges by the Eastern capitalist states to cause internal instability with have the same foreign sources, and yes, targeting to mislead the working classes. Even the "moderate" right wingers let that happen because they'd rather have fascists in power than lose capitalism.

Basically capitalists are infighting between the previous topic of bourgeois democracy & bourgeois dictatorship camps. East and West have integrated fascism in their systems, just with slightly different methods. Western capitalism that voting makes a difference, eastern capitalism lies that their dictatorships are something else and just a facade of fascism.

Both are pretty obvious 'open secrets' / kayfabe. Even the states don't act like this with straight faces and many from the populations see through it all (and displays fascist state lie parrots as pretty comical — but it just bolsters the suffering). The critical mass is still in theater mode, which is enough for the oligarchies as it prevents revolutionary action.

boredtortoise ,

It's pretty clear that as these and the rest of the companies decide what products and services are available, their marketing ploy to shift responsibility to consumer choice doesn't hold water

boredtortoise OP ,

Apparently this semi-ex-copper carried the weapon during a parliament work day and to a karaoke bar to get shit-faced with. Carrying firearms is not at all common in the cities, outside of hunting in the countryside. A gossip rag was first to publish the information, which is also peculiar, as usually the police inform about gun violence very fast.

boredtortoise OP , (edited )

Yea, we aren't allowed to paste full articles in this community and another prompt gave a one paragraph summary with too much left out so

I can edit and update if 6 paragraphs is too much for rule 2 of the community. Mods hmu if that's the case

boredtortoise OP ,

Oh didn't see you're one of the mods. I'm hoping for a usable summary where users don't need to hop off elsewhere. I'll prune some paragraphs in a min

Edit: done

US intelligence believes Putin probably didn't order Navalny to be killed, Wall Street Journal reports ( www.reuters.com )

Last month, Putin called Navalny's demise "sad" and said he had been ready to hand the jailed politician over to the West in a prisoner exchange provided Navalny never return to Russia. Navalny's allies said such talks had been under way [...] Washington had not absolved the Russian leader of overall responsibility for Navalny's...

boredtortoise ,

Yes, exactly. We'll never see an official order from Putin to off Navalny or a similar one from anyone who was in on the Epstein collusion so a claim like "Trump, Clintons and the British royals didn't kill Epstein" can be always made

boredtortoise ,

I'm not ready to be reminded of the loss of inbox

boredtortoise ,

It's insane that it might be possible that Trump is allowed to be a candidate

boredtortoise ,

Well actually the antithesis of democracy, but ig many are taught to believe otherwise

boredtortoise , (edited )

The system the USA has is very far from a democracy, and they're not even attempting to reach alpha, beta or any development of it. Oh actually maybe in some local elections they're on the alpha level, but we don't really hear much on how they work in the rest of the world.

boredtortoise ,

I should've just said my result is "Chaotic Good" at that corporation "team-building" personality test workshop

boredtortoise ,

Maybe China should aid Ukraine. And Palestine and Global South countries being invaded. They could free Tibet, and not attack Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam etc while they're at it.

boredtortoise ,

This has been going on everywhere blatantly and there's never repercussions. It's not a surprise that a vote for the far right is a vote for China+Russia

boredtortoise ,

"if you set up any defenses, we will target them when we attack"

boredtortoise , (edited )

Transcribed for correction (could be that the original applies to some small place with some different setup there, but news about their protests don't really seem to spread to the rest of us). Not a real accessibility transcription.

"oh liberals, you care about palestine? stop tweeting and do something"

"people organize nation-wide protests and actions at great personal risk*

"you swine. i hope the police beat you libs into a fine red paste. i hope they come after your families. how dare you"

boredtortoise ,

The posted image could refer to some place where libs aren't the one protesting, unlike the countries usually seen having these protests

boredtortoise ,

Nah it seems we're saying the same thing, no falsies. Reactionaries are mostly angry for libs protesting with all the rest but of course it's true that there aren't any clear cut lines. And as you pointed out, both major US parties are very conservative

boredtortoise ,

Sure then, we're also not saying anything contrary

boredtortoise ,

Fede Álvarez did good with Evil Dead and Don't Breathe so cautious optimism could apply here

boredtortoise ,

Fascism can disguise itself as communism but communism can't exist in fascism
