We have a beautiful distinction in German. Arbeit means work in almost all the same senses as it does in English. Lohnarbeit – lit. salary work – is the one you do for some else in exchange for money.

Lohnarbeit is inherently degrading.

Calling Jamaican English oder Patois an accent is a tiny bit derogatory, because it is its own language. It has its roots firmly in English, but it's not just "haha talk funny".

Not that Steven Seagull would care. Or should have tried to sing in Jamaican English. Or sing at all. Or do anything besides sit in prison forever.

Please don't. That war was insanely warcrimey and horrific.

While we have tons of DND meme channels and some dedicated to tabletop RPGs in general, I would really love to see lemmy.world/c/dm_academy flourish. I got invaluable tips and feedback to the campaign I'm GM'ing.

It that was true, Bloomberg would be your president now.

There's more to it.

Yeah, that's where I ended up, too. At least Google had the decency to support OPML export so I didn't have to redo my subscriptions manually.

My god, the assistant, yes. After catching up with Siri it was actually useful. And now it seems all it does is plop whatever you say into a Google search. And since they killed that, too, well...

France and Germany to develop next-generation battle tank equipped with artificial intelligence and laser technology, billed as a game changer in modern warfare ( www.france24.com )

The defence ministers of France and Germany, Sebastien Lecornu and Boris Pistorius, signed a memorandum of understanding that seals a 50-50 split in the industrial production of an advanced battle tank dubbed the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS)....

Maybe we do it somewhere else this time around, just to keep things fresh. Magdeburg?

Contemporary Cthulhu campaigns are so much fun.

We did one where we played ourselves, down to building our characters with our actual abilities. To be fair, more like inabilities though. It was so much fun, although I’d argue I was the only one going adequately insane from just the normal unexplained and supernatural stuff. Because, you know, I would.

zakobjoa ,
@zakobjoa@lemmy.world avatar

I was wondering for a quick minute there why you’d play in a physical channel before I remembered that not everyone is as privileged and lucky to play in person all the time.

Aussie Outlaw Ned Kelly's Body Armor (1879) ( lemmy.world )

In 1879, Australian bushranger and outlaw Ned Kelly devised a plan to create bulletproof armour and wear it during shootouts with the police. He and other members of the Kelly gang—Joe Byrne, Steve Hart, and brother Dan Kelly—had their own armour suits and helmets crafted from plough mouldboards, either donated by...

I occasionally use LLMs to generate a set of characters for a TTRPG, if I don’t have the time to prepare and/or know we’ll play a very limited scenario in terms of who my PCs are able to meet. This is especially true for oneshots where I just don’t want to put too much work in.

I recently built a scenario for a cthulhu themed scenario, that was set in a 1920s Louisiana prison and planned for two to three sessions. I just had an LLM do a list of all the prisoners and guards on the PCs block, with a few notes on the NPCs look and character. This drastically reduced the time I had to put in preparing the scenario.

Yeah after Reading this yesterday I downloaded all my data and nuked my account.

Was barely any different from Facebook anyhow. More self promoting bullshit but same levels of insane “the gub’mint” garbage.

I'm this close to visiting my "local" branch for all my banking. ( sopuli.xyz )

I’m lucky my banking app works (GrapheneOS), as it’s now requiring 2FA with the app anytime I login on the browser. Can’t use an actually secure form like TOTP. At least they now allow passwords over 8 characters (yes, serious)....

My bank luckily just slaps me with a huge warning screen every time I open the app.

Just banned from Worldnews for defending Israel against Hamas terrorism

Got back to lemmy barely today, was reading worldnews and put some comments. Got banned in 20 minutes. What happened to this place? People were complaining about reddit mods and now this? You can spread antisemitic propaganda freely and we can’t even comment? Fucking hell

While you are technically correct, antisemitism refers to prejudice against Jewish people.

None.

Almost always I can tell if a game is for me or not within the first four hours and I’ll just return it on Steam if it isn’t. I’ve done it dozens and dozens of times without any problems.

Now, sometimes I’ll not be entirely sure if those four hours are enough but some reviews left me unsure. Star field was such a case. I procured that through alternative channels and decided after about twenty hours and four times as many crashes that it was indeed shit.

zakobjoa ,
@zakobjoa@lemmy.world avatar

If any, then Starfield, although I’d just call it downloaders remorse, I guess.

And I’m pretty sure it’s four hours.

Because of everything Amazon does and is I’ve completely stopped using Amazon a few years back and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

Most small businesses have an online store and a very convenient ordering process. Hell, most even ship the next day. I go out of my way to try and find smaller businesses (who often have to charge for shipping) to order from, but if you just want to avoid Amazon, you can find larger outlets that don’t have shipping costs either.

If you need some weird stuff that you can’t seem to find anywhere but Amazon, try eBay.

And you won’t miss next day delivery very long, I can promise you that. You’ll even get to know a completely new joy: “Oh shit, I totally forgot I had ordered that!”

zakobjoa ,
@zakobjoa@lemmy.world avatar

You don’t.

But changing it probably involves a lot of dropping heavy, sharpened pieces of metal on a certain class of people.
