They did tons of them actually! Most of the time, they’d piece together random clips from previous episodes and present them as pieces of an overarching narrative that had no bearing on the actual story the episodes were telling. Holy shit, this is terrifying. For the entire run time of an episode of Rick and Morty, there was a space where there was a loaded, unattended gun in the state capitol* that literally anyone in the building might’ve happened to find, pick up, and do whatever they want with it.
How can this not be an immediate wake-up call that stricter gun control legislation is necessary? There was a bit in one episode where the muppets where singing a song about wet paint, and at the end they threw a can at the camera and it splattered on the screen covering it.
