Hell, sometimes even posts don't federate. There was a period of a few days where Lemmy.World's federation was messed up, and all my posts here from that period are some of the least-upvoted in this community. I figure those posts just never made it outside of Lemmy.World, or at least past anyone not directly browsing the community.
Like, I thought this post was pretty good, but it only got a handful of votes, and only a few of the comments were from accounts outside Lemmy.World.
I'm surprised it got this much to begin with. I swear, majority of the time, my prediction for how well a post is going to do turns out to be completely backwards lol

With Mastodon being a federated platform (a part of the Fediverse), the request to generate a link preview is not generated by just one Mastodon instance. There are many instances connected to it who also initiate requests for the content almost immediately.
And, this "fediverse effect" increases the load on the website's server in a big way.
Does Lemmy not cause this issue? Other federated software was not mentioned in the article at all.
