What put huge quantities of freshwater under the seabed?

For water-stressed cities, undersea aquifers could be a submerged solution.

for better or for worse I use discord because it's where the people I want to talk to are most accessible. It's pretty laggy on my raspberry pi via the browser - but on a recommendation I'm trying ripcord, which despite not being available on aarch64 runs great via box64 and is sooo much snappier. Also I just realised it's by merveilles' own @cancel, which is cool

@voxel If you don't need the voice chat functionality, there's some pretty good bridges to that may be worth trying. I deleted Discord from my phone as the new app was unusably slow, so I'm fully on Matrix now.

The one I've used relays messages in a Discord channel to a Matrix room (it looks very seamless!) but requires cooperation from admins of the bridged server. There's a "puppeteering" one that takes control of your account to bridge DMs and such, but I have yet to try it.

@allpurposemat @voxel thats what i use too, but it requires your own matrix homeserver which can be time consuming to set up. But having everything in one client made it perfect for me and i never voice/video chat anyway

I had to figure out what process on my system was using a specific port, by tracking down the PID and what it was for...

Hi @grumpygamer. I just finished Thimbleweed Park and I enjoyed it so much. Monkey island 1 & 2 have been my favourite games since I first played them on next door’s Amiga.

Thimbleweed park took me right back, and I loved it.

I noticed you were on Mastodon and I thought that this is finally an opportunity to say “Thank you”. Your games set the bar for what constitutes a “good” game in my younger self that continues to this day (The “good” metric in this case being short hand for “how I should feel during and after playing a game”).

@GameFromScratch You might know enough to clear it up. But do the ones with the Unity/UE logos mean they're only redeemed at their respective asset stores? I interpret it that way.

If you would replace 'Palestine' by Hamas, you would be right: Palestinians are not doing harm to anyone.

The hostages are in Palestine. All Palestinian civilians are responsible for the safety of the hostages.

What happens when a country has lots of "renewable" energy?

The dirtiest, most energy intense industries go there. In Iceland, bitcoin mining and aluminum smelting have thrived.

The "renewable" energy boom will in fact accelerate environmental collapse, because it encourages and gives license to the core driver of environmental collapse, which is massive overconsumption and waste.

Our crisis is cultural.
Once we were human.
Then we became consumers
Now we become devourers

We must slow down.

@gerrymcgovern

This all one need to know about the toxic, violent, inhumane future that our species is racing towards.
We are powerless against it.
By the time populations begin to decline in real numbers, the environmental collapse will be total.

@gerrymcgovern Reminds me of this recent post on the Jevons Paradox: https://economicsfromthetopdown.com/2024/05/18/a-tour-of-the-jevons-paradox-how-energy-efficiency-backfires/ . Using something more efficiently leads to using more of it.

Ok, now the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, clearly accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity, I hope that means it's time for the UK, US, Germany, etc to finally drop the support for the gazan genocide. I'm probably too naive, though.

thejaysunday ,
@thejaysunday@mamot.fr avatar

@javi at this stage there is no warrant. A prosecutor requested a warrant, but the warrant has not been issued.

javi OP ,

as of today, from 56 requests of a warrant, only two of them has been initially denied by the ICC pre-trial chamber. And both of them were accepted after appealing. So there's zero cases where prosecutor has request a warrant and it hasn't been issued.
