Who are the people who constantly need AI to make summaries of emails and then go and generate a thousand-word email because a single sentence “isn’t professional”

VileLasagna ,

@thomasfuchs "if no one could be bothered to write this, why should I be bothered to read it?"

It's depressing that basic literacy is so bad that the idea gets even considered, though it's also a matter of lacking confidence. People made to feel so insecure, with standards so twisted they think the LLM text is not only acceptable, it's somehow preferable when it's just meaningless incoherent garbage

Sometimes I catch myself thinking about Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha (The Misfit of Demon King Academy) and it never ceases to amaze me how I'm actually legitimately interested in it

The show is absolutely, unquestionably trash. It is the five bucks pizza, of anime, quintessentially fast food

But it just has enough hooks and interesting stuff to keep going. It's even actually good in bursts. And while it wears it's tropes on its sleeves, it doesn't generally overcommit to them

Good trash

I originally didn't plan to do the top screen of the DS, I was skeptic about my fan-game being in a vertical format, but after this small test I think it adds a lot to the mood outdoor and it brings back memories, what do you think? 🤔
(yes it's just a static placeholder sky for now)

The player of my Animal Crossing fan-game moving around the town hall plaza, entering inside, then leaving. The thing to observe is that the screen is divided in two like a Nintendo DS setup, I've added a sky when outside on the top screen and it's black when inside.

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@pikario It be cute in a way, but if your game is going to be played on a single screen, I'd be more interested in it just stretching out instead, with the option of a portrait mode viewport, so to speak

With no real info or gameplay on that whole section, the nostalgia factor is just getting in the way of the main event, I feel but my own AC experience IS NH only so I don't personally HAVE the nostalgia for a dual screen here at all, which tilts me the other way to begin with

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@ScruffyBrush @pikario I DO feel like a lot of games would benefit from actually two viewports as an option if the user had them, though

I played through Wind Waker in the Wii U and that game was MAGICAL but I could see, as I was playing, how having to stop sailing to open up the map and inventory all the time WOULD get pretty old really quick

This used to be a thing for niche management games, though, splitting across monitors, COULD be something worth playing with for PC

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Matthew Can't wait to get rid of my switch and trade it for one of those instead. Never again buying a "console" that's not just a Linux PC

Even before the Deck was announced, the Switch had already let me down so much on the one trip I took it and I had already replaced "regular" consoles with a gaming PC in the living room anyway with zero regrets

The people I know that have it only complain the battery life is a bit meh but otherwise, pure love

I feel like this current DS2 run is the most DS2 run I've ever made, even back when platting it and the reason is: Bonfire Ascetics

Back then I knew I was going to NG+ anyway so I don't remember bothering much but this time.... reached Undead Crypt, and finally got the weapon I wanted, the Mace of the Insolent. Beat Velstadt and immediately Ascetic'd for a second one except:
"Oh wait... I need to kill Velstadt again now, huh? Oops, lol"

Was all good, even if the MotI itself is not a good here

VileLasagna OP ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

And I've done this a couple other times already. Najka+1 is VERY MUCH on the hitlist for the Bluestone Ring +2, Mytha and Gargoyles both immediately got bumped for their NG+ rings. I'm kinda rushing towards Giant Lord to farm for souls...

And it just gives DS2 such an unique flow when compared to every other Souls game... so much more free form, it's quite amazing when it clicks

I've been playing a Best Souls 2 run again and it's kinda wild, thinking now:

1 - How the change from Magic Adjust to the separate Elemental Bonuses changed casting in weird and interesting ways

2 - How come "Weapons that Cast" are just absent from Elden Ring. I don't understand this at all

3 - Hexes and Pyromancies BOTH scaling off of int and faith, so that stat-wise they're the same build was some juicy lore potential that got a bit lost in the DS2 rework woes (as a lot of that game did)

Graveyard Keeper is just goth Stardew Valley. 10/10

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@LegendaryRedfox I loved that game. But also absolutely hated it. 10/10, don't ever want to touch a game like it again

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@LegendaryRedfox Mostly that but the thing that ACTUALLY does it is the flow:

Most games have ups and downs in terms of tension/engagement. Say, you finish a set in a fighting game, beat a boss and unlock a new area in an adventure, reach the next bonfire in Dark Souls, etc...

But what happened to me with GK is that it was absolutely non-stop, there was never an exit point. The game never slowed down, there were always 7 different things to juggle, the whole experience was a haze of busywork

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@LegendaryRedfox And it WAS all fun but because everything just blended and blurred together in such a mass of tasks and objectives which never had any breaks, the whole thing felt kinda suffocating at the end. I thought that automating things would help but it was maybe a bit of the opposite?

So I had long play sessions I felt a bit trapped in, I guess, so the game was a bit exhausting to play, even if it was fun

Also a cliffhanger ending? For THAT? My heart can't take a GK2, I don't think =P

VileLasagna ,

@nixCraft kind of? I had my ARC and my Radeon 7 both die of my workstation, leaving me with only the Maxwell Titan which not only was the weakest of the three but, yeah, has a bunch of issues, so my experience is definitely degraded.

Just lost an Exploding Kittens match in the most spectacular fashion

2 diffuses, one streaking and a few other utility cards in hand, match was won

Drew an EK, diffused it. Later drew a second one and decided to hold it, hoping it might get stolen

Instead the remaining player had curse of the cat butt. I had the diffuse wasted followed by playing the EK

Absolutely hilarious turnaround

This game is still a 10/10

While this is somewhat specifically framed around the particularities of the US, we all do happen to live in the same country called Capitalism so..

This whole story serves as a reminder that Liberals are NOT on the left and that as soon as they have to choose between 10 human lives and a single cent on a billionaire's pocket, the mask comes all the way off and they are immediately on the side of Capital, throwing you under as many buses as it takes

Microsoft shutting down a few studios today should be an eye opener for the people that are rooting for MS. It's a good reminder that it's NEVER a good thing when a massive company buys a smaller company.

Either that smaller company will slowly get worse or dissolve completely. There was a trend of people saying they should buy companies to save them and let them do their own thing, but thankfully I expect to see less of that now...

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@dheadshot @thomasfuchs I'd argue that even claiming that "the US is wrong in what it supports" is still missing the point

There's no "mistake", the US is the greatest source of violence, evil and oppression in the world. The misery is BY DESIGN. If it sounds hyperbolic, just look at what happens to any country in Latin America where life gets even slightly better for the people there

VileLasagna ,
@VileLasagna@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@dheadshot @thomasfuchs yeah, unfortunately there's an entire pillar of Liberal american exceptionalism extremely invested in believing that the US is somehow well intentioned, despite ceaseless evidence to the contrary, so it's always worth a reminder
