What should I play on my Retroid? Either Android games with controller support, or some game from PS1/N64 era and before?

Also I'm sick of hierarchy in every aspect of society.

Moosader OP ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

Feels quite telling that the list of opposites of hierarchy have "mayhem", "disarrangement", and other negative disorganized sounding things listed. As if you can't have order and process without having a power structure. 😑

Nothing like "co-operative" or "shared governance".

I'm not very up on various political subculture terminology but would Anarchy be the opposite of Hierarchy? Not in the "chaos and mayhem!" sense but in a lack of a power structure?

Moosader OP ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

I'm basically of the mindset that hierarchy is always going to lead to corruption. Maybe you have a good boss here or there but that's not guaranteed, and never across the entire chain of command. And with varying levels of power there's going to be secrecy and agendas and distortion, it's not about cooperating for a shared goal, it's about getting your way and squashing everybody else.

Moosader OP ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@VileLasagna going to take that literally and imagine people yelling "NO ARCHY!!" while removing keystones from archways

All right,for funzies: Which is the most insufferable lazy trope?

Moosader ,

@VileLasagna back in my day it was teen girls being isekai'd and becoming magical heroes. RIP. 🥲

@VileLasagna I also grew up on .hack and the SAO stuff feels poopy :p

Moosader ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@VileLasagna I mostly just played the PS2 video games which were single player RPGs that emulated an MMORPG world lol

Maybe morbid but I'm really hoping that both presidential candidates die of old age before November, that would be pretty sweet.

Next computer project I'm gonna do is set up a computer hooked up to this "Smart TV" and do all my media watching via the computer because man I'm so sick of YouTube's 30-60 second ads.

And in a way I swear that Samsung is adding more ads in?? I didn't see any articles about it. Or perhaps YouTube just serves ads in different ways depending on platform, so I don't get the same garbage on mobile... And if I did, I'd run it through NewPipe anyway to watch without ads.

Moosader OP ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@VileLasagna heck yeah! I already have a wireless keyboard/touchpad that I use on my PlayStation, so I can just use that for the compy.

Maybe I could even program a cute easy to navigate launcher with big buttons. 😏

My mobile games haven't been updated in years and won't install on most Android phones now. Makes me want (or wonder if there exists) like a core app for games that other games can be written for and always run... Just the core app has to be updated.

Basically like JVM or Python. Just update the core app but things mostly continue to run on it fine.

I know there are version changes but it feels like things would last longer that way.

Or just make games for mobile for DOS, run in dosbox. 🤪

Looking for recommendations: Code editors that work well for C++ and have a little terminal at the bottom, can build from the terminal. Looking for something like VS Code, but not owned by Microsoft and also free and doesn't require students learning new keyboard shortcuts for cut/copy/paste like emacs would.

Moosader OP ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@VileLasagna Yeah, just wanting a good code editor and terminal to teach basics in CS 200

I just uninstalled a GUI program because it was "too much hassle" and opted to use a CLI program + shell script instead...

Moosader ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@paintedsky I do most of my writing for my classes in command line emacs and I have a bunch of bash scripts to automate pulling down student code from their repositories and such... I've set up my workflow so I can do most of it via SSH to a droplet. So tired of GUIs. 🥲

They're still shooting at Palestinians who are just trying to get bags of flour. It isn't just a one-off occurrence. People in the North of Gaza are starving, and when aid comes, they're killed for trying to get flour to feed their families.

Download the "No Thanks" app to look up what brands to boycott.

Some of them are the free games you get with PS Plus though, but some of them are games I've bought but haven't started yet.

I don't know what the pattern is between barely played vs. played a lot but dropped off vs. finsihed

Moosader OP ,
@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

Sometimes I play through games just cuz they're easy enough to beat, like the Tomb Raider games.

I played The Last of Us because it was culturally relevant, then felt obligated to play The Last of Us Part 2, though I rarely hear anyone talk about pt 2.

Played a lot of games that were critically panned but enjoyed them... Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (it's bad but I played it a lot), Balan Wonderworld (really enjoyed it), Forspoken (platinumed, really enjoyed, sad there won't be more).
