I think the point is to make official Arch run on other architectures, like aarch64 and riscv64 and use the Arch infrastructure to do so.

Arch Linux ARM has not been doing well for a couple of years.

I get the joke, but it is kind of a phishing attempt.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Maybe it puts KDE applications first?

Like the firewall thing, might be plasma firewall settings.

DD is the best for 1-1 copying, but I like to use CloneZilla, because it can compress and encrypt the images.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Can you replicate it?
If you can, you can create a bug report. If not, it's probably a one-time thing where the stars alligned and the conditions where just right for it to happen.

Fix for the capslock slow response

This is an issue that I know for a fact that is not specific to plasma, but I came here to ask for help since I run Plasma and I'm hoping that there is something I can change on the DE to fix it. Caps-lock is very slow and causes THis ISsue, and it is driving me crazy. I'm the person who can never learn how to use the shift to...

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

I’m the person who can never learn how to use the shift to capitalize my letters and use caps-lock religiously.

That is bonkers to me. To me the Shift button is for single or a few characters, while Caps Lock is for full words and sentences. Did you grow up without a Shift key or where is that hatred for the Shift key coming from? ;)

@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

A solution would be to place these movies in a seperate Library and only give your mother access to that library, so it does not show up for you other users.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

I hardly change anything in Plasma. In my experience Plasma 6 is about as stable as Plasma 5.27 is/was. I rarely see a crash, freeze or inconsistancy I didn't cause myself.

What happened to glibc-widevine ? ( aur.archlinux.org )

I watch the F1 on NowTV. In windows this works fine in Firefox but not in Linux. My research turned up various posts linking to the "widevine" package that depends on "glibc-widevine" but that seems to have disappeared. What happened to it? did it work? where can I get it? is there an alternative?

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Yeah. The PKGBUILD says glibc-widevine is only required for armv7h and aarch64 builds. SO it's just aurweb that's displaying it wrong.

Having a release party 4 weeks after the release is weird...

Strit , (edited )
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Like Wayland? /sarcasm

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Yes, but if it's a broken package it's usually something wrong in the packaging done by the distribution or the user did something they shouldn't be doing. I have never seen a package break without me doing something to break it.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Again, that's a packaging issue, as the maintainer did not rebuild yum/dnf for against the new python. Aside from rebuilding those packages manually, the user can't fix that either.

@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Why are everyone suddenly aware that Neochat is unmaintained. I mean, the last commit was 3 years ago and the last release alsmost 4 years ago. Just because the git repository got archived on a date does not mean that it was maintained up to that point.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Nextcloud has a few options for something like this. PhoneTrack I think the app is called. You install the app on the phone and then connect it with a nextcloud server with the PhoneTrack app installed and setup. Then it would send all that information to your nextcloud instance. I don't know if you can stop the traffic to googles servers though.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

So... did you try installing those two?

    The DNS record for the domain/subdomain needs to be enabled for it before SSL can be applied with Traefik. If it doesn't resolve, the dns challenge can't complete. Does regular http connect to it?

    My systems generally do send all the feedback to the KDE devs, so I help determine where effort should be put next.

    https://forum.syncthing.net/t/sharing-folder-with-others/14024/2

    Syncthing is not a public sharing tool, it’s for your own devices. Perhaps you are trying to fit it to a scenario it’s not made for.

    Quote from the maintainer/developer.

    If I'm not doing anything fancy and just use it for basic reverse proxy stuff for my docker containers, would I need to change stuff in the configs? Most of the stuff mentioned in the migration guide is about tls.caOptional stuff, which I don't believe I use.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Cool. I don't have any swarm related config stuff.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    As long as it's not a mandatory switch, I can't see any issue with this.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    You think?
    Hardly anyone uses the built-in network stack or the homed thing.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Not sure why you would need a research paper to figure this out when https://reproducible.archlinux.org/ exists....

    linux-zen does fail, it's just not in Core, but in Extra.

    "fclose: no space left on device”

    How big is the partition you are installing Debian to?
    Does it happen right away or after a little while?
    If it's right away, the drive might be failing and thus going into read-only state.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Yeah, it basically means maintaining the package yourself on your system.

    True, but matrix does have the advantage of federated login, while Mattermost is 1 login per server. So I just wanted to add the information. Sure it might be overkill for you, but I'd wager most of the users here on Lemmy already have a Matrix account, so it would be much easier for them.

    I did not mean to say that Matrix is better than Mattermost. They serve different needs.

    It's what the site says at the buttom, so that's when it was last generated.

    Strit ,

    This new release does seem to solve some long standing issues people have had with nextcloud for a while. Like great performance improvements and Federated Chat with Nextcloud Talk.

    And improving Circles and renaming it to Teams seems like it’s only gonna be really useful for Businesses. But I do hope that some smaller organizations can get some use out of it.

    All in all, I think this release is great, if what they said in the announcement is true. I don’t care much for all the AI additions, but I understand why they are doing it.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    A lot of people use them for log files when troubleshooting within a support channel of some sort.

    Strit ,

    Was proposed, but seems unlikely as Fedora/RedHat does a lot in the Gnome eco-system.

    tiddlywiki.com could also be an option. Although it’s mostly for notes and such I think.

    Strit ,

    How would they determine what is AI generated and what is not?

    2 good reasons to have your /tmp on tmpfs filesystems.

    1. It’s faster. RAM speeds are faster than your drive speeds, even SSDs.
    2. You are certain that all the files are removed on reboot, because RAM always gets cleared when it looses power.

    1 bad reason for having your /tmp be tmpfs.

    1. It can quickly fill out your RAM if your application (or you manually) drop huge files in /tmp and don’t move them out afterwards.

    In my mind, the Pros outweigh the Cons.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    It has been default in Arch for a long time.

    What is the output of your df -h | grep tmpfs command? It should list a couple of devices using tmpfs, where /tmp is one of them.

    I’ve recently bought my first Tuxedo laptop, an InfinityBook Pro 16 - Gen8 and after having some minor issues with Fedora on it (mainly with the Tuxedo Control Center) I moved to PopOS! and since then it worked flawlessly. Or at least, it used to work flawlessly until last week, when the laptop started to reboot at...

    Could be heat or RAM related. Have you run a memtest on it recently? And how does the temperature look when it reboots?

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    SOme OS’s put it in the Grub/boot menu, but otherwise you can run it from a memtest live ISO like www.memtest.org.

    This is the next step towards a proper KF5 based release.

    Not to rain on the Amarok devs parade, but KF 6.1 was just released. Wouldn’t it make more sense to start targetting KF6 instead?

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    That makes sense. I didn’t realize that they took this long to port to KF5.

    KDE already has a mobile Matrix client, NeoChat.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Not sure what you mean. The protocol supports the bridge, not the client.

    Strit ,

    Or better yet, design a modern gui in gtk/qt.

    There’s also a great TUI in libredefender, also written in Rust.
