I was chatting with a stock photographer a while back. Apparently the most important thing is the tags that you give the photos. The best ones are abstract because you aren't competing with "hand" and "pen". If you can make your photo of a hand holding a pen fit "wistful" or "trenchant" then you have a better chance of it being seen. Making thousands of weird photos like a hammer/screwdriver/wand being held over a watermelon/plastic duck/brick by a clown/policeman/nurse and giving them abstract tags is the way to go.

Biden backtracks on climate plans and ‘walks tightrope’ to court both young voters and moderates ( www.theguardian.com )

Joe Biden, touted as the US’s first climate president, is presiding over the quiet weakening of his two most significant plans to slash planet-heating emissions, suggesting that tackling the climate crisis will take a back seat in a febrile election year....

That's all right. I didn't want my kids to have a habitable planet anyway.

Every time I want to do something, I have a look around the baffling ecosystem of frameworks and end up writing it from scratch because it's easier than wading through the bullshit.

Naich ,
@Naich@kbin.social avatar

A lot of them were shifted 1 second into the future following the problems with the cracked frampton valve on a popular model of felindrical phase felcher.

Naich ,
@Naich@kbin.social avatar

I feel that the nature of my framework is too simple and too focused on a specific goal to be worthy of the name.

It totally depends on the person. I'm from the left-driving UK, and have friends who hate every second of driving in the rest of Europe. Personally, I find it takes about 10 minutes to acclimatise and then it seems normal and I'm fine.

Oat milk is definitely the best. Better than moo milk for cereal, in my opinion.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: yes, it is.

When I'm not broken, an 8 mile cycle ride that takes around 30 minutes. I'm currently recovering from a broken kneecap and getting the bus in, which is about 20 minutes and 5 minutes walk each end.

I like FreeCAD. I know some people hate it, but I find the requirement to do things carefully and properly to avoid horrible errors later on really focusses my mind on what I'm designing. I end up with something that is probably better designed than if I could just lash something together and let the software sort out the mess.

The old internet is still there. It's just dwarfed by the colossal amount of shit piled up on the shit sites.

As a general rule, stick to free and open stuff because the motivation of the people doing it is to give to the community, rather than make money. Mastodon and Lemmy/Kbin rather than Xitter and Reddit. Just stay away from Facebook. There are lots of old style bulletin boards still around for various interests, and they are often more used than FB groups.

I stopped putting adverts on my sites ages ago because I hate them so much. I don't want to be part of the enshittification.

Naich ,
@Naich@kbin.social avatar

Quite. After all this shit I want to have a rest.

18+ Is it possible I am intersex if I apparently have a very wide female pelvic bone and everything else is male?

I was assigned male at birth but have increasingly started to notice over the years that other guys don’t have a big notch on either side of their torsos like I do. It’s my pelvic bone. I would go to a doctor to see what they had to say but they’ve seen me plenty of times and said absolutely nothing about being intersex...

99.9% of people have more in common with an illegal immigrant than Elon Musk. Their problems aren't caused by people arriving in small boats, but those arriving in private jets.

Does this mean that blood type O will become rarer over time and eventually disappear? Does it also imply that someone, like me, who is O- has a family tree with fewer branches on it than most people?

I had a friend who used to say "pip pip". I also think you missed the joke.

  1. Do what you can. Reduce your carbon footprint by eating less meat, using cars less, flying less. OK, by yourself it's not going to make a huge difference, but at least you will know that personally, you aren't making it worse. Join a group that is trying to make a positive difference.
  2. Concentrate on the little things that make you happy. You can't stop climate change on your own but you can make something nice for dinner.
  3. Value your friends and keep in touch with them. They probably feel pretty much the same as you do. Cheer each other up and support each other.
  4. Get a hobby to keep yourself occupied.

That's all I can think of.

A weirdo tries some major CAD suites, but also a bunch of half-baked bizarre free CAD program out there... ( kbin.social )

TL;DR: I tried lots of CAD stuff with an eye towards someday being able to commercialize designs. F360 would be great if I could trust Autodesk. Solid Edge, Solidworks, and Onshape all have issues too. I want to make myself like FreeCAD. Some other options like Alibre are interesting, and many get weeeeird....

Naich ,
@Naich@kbin.social avatar

FreeCAD can be a right pain in the arse and things can blow up spectacularly, but it does force you to use discipline in your designing. It's a great tool if you are careful and don't cut corners. Other than with the mitre tool, ho ho.

Xenophobia is to racism what homophobia is to ... ?

Is there a word that means “a hatred of gay people”, rather than “a fear of or aversion to gay people”? Surely there are people who simply hate homosexuality without necessarily fearing it, and vice versa. Someone who hates homosexuality should probably be condemned for their unreasonable and hateful prejudices, but...

A couple of things helped me stop. First, I didn't set a day I was going to stop because that just made me anxious and want to smoke more as THE DAY approached. I decided I was going to stop soon and then one random morning I said to myself "this is it. Stop now", which took me by surprise and I didn't have a chance to get anxious.

Secondly, I kept to my routine of taking a break when I'd normally have a cigarette but I'd go outside and chew some ordinary gum instead. That way I could deal with the physical addiction first and the mental addiction later.

As soon as bicycles are mentioned, everyone suddenly has to transport their washing machine 200 miles in sub zero temperatures.

"If you tell a lie big enough and tell it frequently enough, people will eventually come to believe it". What is an example of this happening today?

I would really rather that these were actual examples, and not conspiracy theories. We all have our own unsubstantiated ideas about what shadowy no-gooders are doing, but I’d rather hear about things that are actually happening.

I'm shocked that a person who thinks the name of a piece of software can harm them doesn't understand their own religion.
