It's a quote about investing but applies to software too.

Youtube Rant from a paying customer

I used to use NewPipe back in the days of yore. Then I got Youtube Premium since it bundled in Youtube Music as well which I used. But the former's app on mobile is a shit show. Even after paying, you are asked to tip random creators, purchase merchandise[ which are shown as actual ads below videos] and join channels to access...

Are you using the YouTube Music app, or the YouTube app and loading the music section? I've never seen anything you're describing.

USA Lemmies: Where do you live?

I comment a lot on stories having to do with state governments and legislation or regions of the country. It got me wondering how many people I'm accidentally disparaging when I don't mean everyone in said state or region is terrible. So… Please be as specific or obtuse as your privacy filter requires. I'll start:...

Oregon here.

Have a lot of friends in the bay area and have visited Oakland a few times. Lovely place. Fuck the haters!

I have some friends in Australia and I always send them pictures of squirrels when I see them. Got TONS where I live.

Also, I don't know what you think corporal punishment is, but it isn't that.

Maybe giving the cops a good spanking when they break the law might help.

lechatron ,
@lechatron@lemmy.today avatar

Trump may be a lot of things, but I don't suspect he's into being dominated or shamed sexually. That's why the Russian pee tapes always seemed so outlandish. And now that I think about it, I bet the cops aren't into it either, the only corporal punishment they're dishing out is to their wives.

Thankfully no, it's nylon. Was mostly just a lot of soaking in the tub and agitating over a couple of hours.

My dog reacts very poorly to "Okay, Google". I'm not sure if it's because of the response from a person that he can't see, or that in the past I've yelled at the phone to stop when it won't stop listing. But every time I say "Okay, Google" now he gets up and goes into his crate. He does the same when I talk into my Google TV remote too, so I assume it's the response from the Google Assistant that he finds so troublesome.

What's the draw of watching/following streamers?

I’ve watched some here and there, but having to try to catch them when they stream has put me too much in the mind of old tv and catching shows when they air. Watching the recording afterward is maybe good for some white noise, but it’s clearly not the intended experience I think.

lechatron ,
@lechatron@lemmy.today avatar

I was a pretty heavy Twitch user for a while, even streamed for a couple years myself. The biggest draw for me was the community. Most of the time I couldn’t care less what the person was playing, I was there to interact with them and their communities. It was about the only social/entertainment outlet I had at the time.

Zelensky signed several laws on mobilization on April 2, one of which lowered the minimum age of compulsory military service from 27 to 25, making men eligible for the draft from age 25.

The current draft age in the USA is 18-25.

lechatron ,
@lechatron@lemmy.today avatar

I was just kind of shocked that their conscription age was so high considering the US draft age ends at their new low end. When I first read the headline I assumed they were going to start drafting 16 year olds.

The actual news release has a bit more information.

The team discovered that a single chip responsible for storing a portion of the FDS memory — including some of the FDS computer’s software code — isn’t working. The loss of that code rendered the science and engineering data unusable. Unable to repair the chip, the team decided to place the affected code elsewhere in the FDS memory. But no single location is large enough to hold the section of code in its entirety.

So they devised a plan to divide the affected code into sections and store those sections in different places in the FDS. To make this plan work, they also needed to adjust those code sections to ensure, for example, that they all still function as a whole. Any references to the location of that code in other parts of the FDS memory needed to be updated as well.

“I hope you have the day you deserve.”

When / why / how did "I hope you are well" become a standard email intro?

Practically every email I’ve received in maybe the past year has started with “I hope you are well”. I even had an LLM draft a placeholder email for me and it started with the same thing. This has not always been the case and it’s strange to me that everyone I interact with begins their emails with this line. Frankly,...

Not super tricky, they’re using ChartJS and with some very minimal tweaks to the config (aka changing “pie” to “bar”) the data would look like this!

edit: does look a bit awkward due to the huge difference in values. A logarithmic scale would look better, but is much more confusing.

    I bought a Herman Miller chair 12 years ago when I started working from home full time. It was close to $1,000 and I was hesitant to spend that much, but I’m sure I would have gone through at least 3 office chairs by now had I bought cheap ones. This chair will probably still be solid until I retire. Definitely worth the investment.

    Google has a color picker that gives the hex value. It also lets you type in the values if you know those.
