I need to detach from this convo as I'm getting kind of infuriated without being able to do much about it. I live up in Washington state now, but used to be a Cali boy and shit like this gives you such whiplash if you believe the news about how blue California is. 😂
Costa Mesa up to Seattle myself, love how green it is. But noticing how much Spokane vs Seattle politics is at play as I get used to this plane I just moved to.. same shit, different place haha
Yup, 100% a piece of shit. That black stuff running down his empty skull a few years back? Haha shoe polish!!... No friend, that was what simulates a brain in his decrepit shitbag body, leaking.
I think key to my privacy model is that I run microG, so most info isn't going to Google anyway. Firefox+add-ons takes care of enough of the remaining trackers etc so that I feel comfortable.
This particular search is my attempt to regain a bit of the convenience I've lost in the process of gaining a lot of privacy; I'm ok with doing things the 'slow' way, but curious to see if there's a way to get some modern nicities without losing much (ideally any) privacy.
Thanks for your response, I've gotten great feedback from everyone so far, unfortunately looks like the anti-pattern is particularly & purposefully strong here in the payment and NFC interaction realm.
Some number of apps are using pay for more than NFC payment, for ex some ticketing applications from concert organizers don't seem to offer an alternative to use of pay. I was also hoping for support of NFC payment somehow, but had low hopes because I expect there's PCI compliance or whatever.
Because I don't know the backend of the compliance process etc, not an I particularly interested in researching that, figured I'd ask in this community and find at least a couple of knowledgeable answers.
Ok, thanks very much for this, I'll look into this app.
I'll go on the record acknowledging that inevitably someone is selling my records and habits, but key is knowing the data is siloed across a few different brokers. If someone wants my info, I have to hope adding a bit of a paywall across it will help a bit.
I wanted NFC for payments if that were possible. I also need NFC for things like gym access, where it appears they're using the NFC system to grant access. Adoption of that process unfortunately uses Google pay.
I don't need it instead of my credit card, but I don't ride the train often enough to bring the NFC card along. Ideally it'd live on my phone for when I do need it.
The real issue is how tightly integrated with Google pay everything is. I'm simply looking for at least some of the features gpay has without using gpay.
If I could at least use my phone to NFC my gym as well as my train rides, I'd be very happy. Credit card payments, I don't care as much.
I guess you elected not to read the original question. I'm looking for something to support using my phone to access things like the gym and the subway, in a privacy respecting manner. If that's not possible, I can continue with my regular methods.
Try it? I think you'd need to have a fast explanation (I.e. elevator pitch) because the customs people are usually a little overworked.
Some might refuse, perhaps even all of them. But try it, might even get a taste of group psychology.. if a few agents stamp, will other agents, seeing real stamps, decide more easily to stamp as well?
I really, really do not want to be lumped in with Zionists.
I don't agree at all with what's happened to the Palestinians at Israel's hands, and I have no trouble saying both Zionists and Israeli govt are wrong here.
I have never visited Israel for how toxic Zionists ironically sounded, considering our history in Germany, and I'm damn glad I never will. You're making us all look bad, you fucking idiots.
I just wanted to peek at the front page. I guess they don't want people to use their shit anymore. I'm starting to believe in the dead internet theory.
I really can't imagine this going well for Qualcomm, if the article is true.
It smells like there's a lot of smoke around their implementation of the benchmarks, and consumers will immediately discover the fire when the time arrives and devices are in-hand.
Nothing but time. So long as their testing is rigorous, they will catch up to Boeing... But will they be rigorous? History has repeatedly suggested, no.
But we in the west shouldn't count on that continually being the case.
I'm very much not a desert person, but the scale of the inland valley, the quiet beauty of Joshua tree, etc... Moved from socal, but there was a lot of beauty that doesn't call you to it loudly, you just suddenly notice and enjoy it.
Joshua tree looks like a bunch of rocky hills... Till you notice they're all rounded and stacked perfectly. You notice how arid it is, and then notice green leaves in spite of that.
If you're observant, there's beauty everywhere natural.
Not knocking your choices, just to be clear. I do in fact like keeping up with entertainment and arts, can't really get concerts, symphonies and plays out in the hills. For me and many others, cities are great. There are places that are still nestled in the hills with small town vibes in soCal, check out Silverado canyon as an example.
I camp when I want to reconnect to nature, and ride my bicycle all over the place. Cities can be very beautiful in their own right, though I admittedly have an engineer's bias when viewing.

Gonna keep striving to give working people safety, the ability to have a reliable roof and food, and to start a family if they desire, and the right to skip that family part if they want.
People keep suggesting that'll change as I get older, but I seem to get ever more invested about it as the years go by. I'm not sure why anyone would go against those principles, but here you are.
Redwood materials is trying to close the loop on lithium recycling from ev purposes, we can expect us military-industrial companies to take advantage of the cost savings, if for no other reason than to say "here's a silent tank, we're pocketing 60% of the unit cost for.. Development.. Reasons"
From acorns grow tremendous trees, it's likely there will be a big change from an unexpected avenue.
I was a long-time Xubuntu fan, tried Ubuntu directly from canonical for my new laptop.
It's been a bit rocky, all things considered. I think I'm trying something else next time, maybe mint or whatever. Maybe Xubuntu, but only if this snap shit has been cut out.
