Rentlar ,

I'm not an expert in phycology so I can't answer your question. Sorry.

Rentlar ,

Ah. That I can answer. Making posts on Lemmy being salty about downvotes begets more downvotes, almost guaranteed. Hope this helps.

Rentlar ,

Absolutely. Some aspects are unavoidable, being an anonymous thread based forum, so trolling, flamebaiting, brigading and the like happen here just like Reddit.

Luckily on Lemmy we do have workarounds to some of these issues. You can join instances that disable downvotes for people who are bothered by it. Federated, publicly visible moderation has its ups and downs but at least you have all the information and you can decide to move to an instance where you fit in better.

Your region? Is the service you are trying to acquire available to Canadian customers?

Rentlar ,

They should be paid overtime and extra overtime for their efforts cooperating with the investigation. They should come chill in Canada while they await the results of the investigation. Smoking a few joints with us and having a few Hawaiian pizzas will make the time go by quickly.

The "four seasons" gaffe is still the height of Giuliani's comedy career, but this is up there.

Trump Demands Biden Take a Drug Test Before Debating and Claims the President Was ‘High as a Kite’ During the State of the Union ( www.mediaite.com )

“I just wanna debate this guy, but you know– and I’m gonna demand a drug test too, by the way,” Trump said as the audience cheered. “I am. No, I really am. I don’t want him coming in like the State of the Union. He was high as a kite.”

Rentlar ,

The drug scheduling rules that the Trump White House pharmacy was following were inspired by "It's every day, bro" by Jake Paul.

Visa Adds New Way To Share Customer Shopping Data With Retailers ( www.businesswire.com )

Visa is rolling out new technology that will allow the payments giant to share more information about customers' preferences [non-paywalled source] based on their shopping history with retailers as it seeks to remain a top player in the competitive e-commerce space. From a report:...

Maybe the person means prepaid debit cards.

Rentlar ,

It already has done much more than you give credit for. People are talking about it. More importantly, legislators are talking about it, which is the first step for things for laws to change/clarify what it means to own a digital product in the UK.

Rentlar ,

Wow, Windows is better! Look at how fast you can set up an FTP server, without even issuing any commands!

Beat that, Linux!

Rentlar ,

I've seen enough of your comments to know you're being sarcastic but damn, I could imagine some conservatives actually making an argument like this.

Rentlar ,

beloved features — like the ability to “gild” posts by donating a Reddit Premium subscription — are not returning.

That was like more than half the point of gold. Some random comment getting lots of gold would mean the recipient, in turn, could give out gold too.

The fact that Sony initially blocked Japan (though that specific case seems to be reversed, along with US territories) will definitely upset Japanese customers.

Rentlar ,

I was worried that the sudden shutdown meant they wouldn't release the offline mode. Glad I was wrong.

Rentlar ,

Yeah I was looking to find where Harry Potter was in this guide.

Rentlar ,

Interesting idea. Would only realistically work on abandoned lines rather than rarely used lines, with special permission from the railroad infrastructure owner and the national governing body for railways (Federal Railroad Administration in the case of US, Eisenbahn-Bundesamt in Germany), since normal railway signalling systems for single track wouldn't work with the bidirectional monorail system.

Using a paper cutter, aligning the worn pages along the outside edge of the book into a nice looking rectangle

Rentlar ,

It could have been £300 and you will still complain and be the sucker for paying for that. Is the seller obligated to ship to you at a price of £2?

You could probably shop around a bunch of Oxfams to (maybe) get the book you wanted for cheap. Or you could also find discounted books at the Oxfam and list them for just £1 or 2 above the sticker price. Is that worth your time?

Like I get being upset at institutional practices like soft drinks costing companies a handful of pence per item when they charge £2.50 (or £4.50 at the cinema), and being stingy on the refills. Books on the other hand are a luxury item that (other than the textbook racket by publishers) you can go without.

Louis discusses his experience with Nextcloud in the first portion of the video.

For him, Nextcloud's gallery app runs much slower than Immich. The Nextcloud app only supports proxy image previews but no proxy video previews, which Immich does.

Rentlar OP ,

Yeah. Hopefully this grant can give Immich the TLC it needs to address its current shortcomings.

Rentlar OP ,

I hope someone can help you with this. Maybe you need to make a post disguised as a tutorial, setting it up incorrectly and have someone correct you :P

Rentlar ,

I'll just suggest to you, get an ebike, then you can hide how unfit you are 😏. Takes all the stress out of hills and some of the stress out of having impatient cars behind you, and keeps the enjoyable parts.

Cyncial take: since much of the North American and European public aren't buying the oil lobby's lies on natural gas any longer, they are pivoting to ways they can use hydrogen and carbon capture as their next distraction.

This article doesn't address fully enough that ASUS used the tiny blemishes as excuses to disqualify the repairs as being out of warranty.

Some potential things:

  • Holdover from 32bit era computing (some info on that on Windows)
  • The disk is formatted to FAT32, max supported size is 2TB
  • The storage controller can only recognize disks up to a certain size
  • The manufacturer offers a variety of SKUs, the highest storage they have on offer is 2TB
  • filler text or just copied from somewhere

As a Linux aficionado, I appreciate you trying to bring an argument for Windows in good faith and a potential way for Microsoft to improve it. This is even if steering people to Bing is Microsoft's intention with this move so they are unlikely to improve it in the way you suggested.

Since forever, Microsoft-affiliated products are often the only things that get the "trusted" label within the Microsoft ecosystem.

If 18 year olds can vote, drive a lorry, a bus and other jobs like that, they shouldn't need to disqualify people at that age to drive trains.

For accuracy's sake those were her father's words, the founder of the Indigenous land exploiting mining company that Gina Rinehart inherited.

US prisoners are being assigned dangerous jobs. But what happens if they are hurt or killed? ( apnews.com )

Blas Sanchez was nearing the end of a 20-year stretch in an Arizona prison when he was leased out to work at Hickman’s Family Farms, which sells eggs that end up in the supply chains of huge companies like McDonald’s, Target and Albertsons. While assigned to a machine that churns chicken droppings into compost, his right leg...

Rentlar ,

...when he was leased out to work at Hickman's Family Farms

I love how the article opens with this, because leasing people like property is totally cool and fine in America, because old piece paper said it is ok.

Rentlar , (edited )

Yeah. I know. I'm saying that it's crazy to me (as a non American) that slavery is viewed as normal in 2024, because the US Constitution says it's OK to buy, sell, lease people if they committed a crime.

Tired of microtransactions? Wanna install (better) mods, and any texture pack you please? Just play the Java edition.

How to work with someone that regularly arrives as the wrong answer?

I work with a person that went presented with a problem, works through it and arrives at the wrong solution. When I have them show me the steps they took, it seems like they interpret things incorrectly. This isn't a language barrier, and it's not like they aren't reading what someone wrote....

Rentlar ,

It's fine if they get it wrong, you explain how you actually wanted it so they understand and then get it right, sometimes you have to spell out what you mean.

If you explained and showed what you wanted and how, after their mistake, then a 2nd or 3rd time they screw up in the same way that's an issue. Words can mean different things to people.

If it's a different screw up each time, and they aren't intentionally being obtuse, then you could probably be clearer or explain yourself better.

I don't like the pits on olives, but cut up they are alright.

I'm strange but my favourite pizza topping combo is black olives and pineapple.

Damn, Adam Smith, Father of Capitalism, out here proudly hustling reviews for Amazon products from his deathbed.

women and not wasting my precious time
online, l have to move on from such simple things and branch out (you wouldnt

Connected cars’ illegal data collection and use now on FTC’s “radar” ( arstechnica.com )

The Federal Trade Commission's Office of Technology has issued a warning to automakers that sell connected cars. And for a low price of a billion dollars, the potential for the executive branch to capitulate to the oligopolies!

Dude. This ain't a meme. It was passable as a shitpost.

Rentlar ,

What clued Ms. Gore into it? Somehow I doubt it was just the fact that the pornographic material in school libraries didn't exist.

Post-Dobbs Texas laws have shown that her former party wants to enslave women to their pregnancies to the point of near-death. Even if not about abortion, I suspect it is one of those "I don't care at all about something until it affects me" type of stories that changed her mind.

Imagine if your average thief or worker accused of misconduct could say "let's see whether the US Department of Justice wants to charge me" to avoid material consequences.

‘The cheap option’?: why the Gold Coast may be on track to build the most expensive light rail in the world ( www.theguardian.com )

Alon Levy, co-lead of the transportation and land use program at New York University’s Marron Institute, has spent years studying why some countries are able to build transport infrastructure cheaply and others aren’t....

Rentlar ,

To move the same number of people you need several times more buses, which means more engines that can fail, wonky acceleration profiles from the variability of road traffic conditions wears engines and physical road conditions wear tires. The lifetime of a rail system is at least 3x as long as a bus. Many metro systems across north america are still running some trains from the 80s that are only just being replaced. Chips and burrs on metal wheels can easily be ground down then replaced after many, many repair cycles, whereas worn or blown tires can only be replaced when the train wears.

So you're right, buses can can be set up faster and are more versatile on our existing road networks and lower upfront capital costs. In the long term, trains are cheaper to maintain and operate and provide a better rider experience.
