Best way to remotely access pc on same LAN

Hey guys. I have a steam link I’ve used for quite some time. But I’m wanting to figure out a solution that is similar but grants full PC control. I have my main PC hardwired and a steam link and monitor out in my garage I’m routing to with a power line adapter that works pretty great. But it has a lot of issues when...

Back when the Steam link was first released you could add notepad as a non-Steam game and then minimize it to get full desktop. I worked like that for an entire summer, it was great! Even with both devices on wifi

Thankfully you can check out the author’s bio right from the article:

Dr. Don Lincoln is a Senior Scientist at Fermilab, America’s leading particle physics laboratory, who has coauthored over 1,500 scientific papers. He was a member of the teams that discovered the top quark in 1995 and the Higgs boson in 2012.

The History of Tetris World Records [by Summoning Salt] ~ a 2 hour documentary ( youtu.be )

I just watched an excellent 2 hour (just needed to edit title, as I noticed it was 2 hours and not 1, wow time really flew away!) long documentary. The build up in stages and showing the evolution of the best players achievements, is intense and very well edited, narrated and written documentary!...

He’s got a bad case of dramatic video essay voice. Thanks for the tip, 1.25x speed still sounds natural and hides a lot of the dead air

Not that I know of, but perplexity’s is pretty good from my experience!

Why are you so being weirdly hateful? It’s off-putting

GammaGames ,

Yeah, this channel kept using him after he was replaced for whatever reason

Yeah, usually it’s pretty good autocomplete. Definitely makes my coding faster (and highlighting a chunk of SQL and asking it to modify it in plain English is magic)

They keep public revisions of every answer and consider deleting good content “vandalism” since it violates license, so it’s no surprise that they’d keep it all

Tornadoes Are Coming in Bunches. Scientists Are Trying to Figure Out Why. The number of tornadoes so far in the United States this year is just above average. But their distribution is changing. ( www.nytimes.com )

While the timing of this trend lines up with the planet’s rising temperatures, scientists are hesitant to definitively attribute tornadoes’ clustering behavior to human-caused climate change....

Can somebody explain why game makers don't start their own companies together?

It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I'm reading is that it's a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors' pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

How are companies or developers supposed to make a full time living with OSI opensourced projects? ( opensource.org )

There has been a lot of talk about companies and individuals adopting licenses that aren't OSI opensource to protect themselves from mega-corp leechers. Developers have also been condemned who put donation notices in the command-line or during package installation. Projects with opensource cores and paid extensions have also...

OpenSSL goes GitHub only ( openssl.org )

We’re no longer using our old ftp, rsync, and git links for distributing OpenSSL. These were great in their day, but it’s time to move on to something better and safer. ftp://ftp.openssl.org and rsync://rsync.openssl.org are not available anymore. As of June 1, 2024, we’re also going to shut down https://ftp.openssl.org...

Any official mirrors would sync the changes anyway, it’s automatic

Edit: Oh, I think I misunderstood your point. I agree that hosting the repos themselves would make it harder for randoms to maliciously introduce code

GammaGames ,
@GammaGames@beehaw.org avatar

If they were to set up an official mirror it would be automatic, so I don’t think there’s any real way to avoid that problem with their current plan. But you’re right! Sorry for the confusion

GammaGames ,

If I had to pick all time? 3DS! It has sooo many games with supporting the DS and 3DS library, DSiWare, and of course homebrew.

If I’m picking my current favorite I’ve got to go with the Playdate. It’s portable and has a lot of fun small-scale games.

(yes I like handholds why do you ask)

I asked Perplexity with “What is the scifi book from the 90s that had “ractors,” where a person would act in front of a camera and a computer would animate a CG model?”and got (what other commenters are saying) is the correct answer:

The science fiction book from the 90s that featured "ractors," where a person would act in front of a camera and a computer would animate a CG model, is not directly mentioned in the provided search results. However, based on the description of "ractors" and the context of computer animation and CG models, it seems you might be referring to "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson, published in 1995. In this novel, the term "ractor" (short for "interactive actor") is used to describe performers who participate in interactive theater through virtual reality environments, which could align with the concept of acting in front of a camera to animate a CG model. However, since this specific detail is not found in the search results, this answer is based on existing knowledge outside of the provided sources.

I think that discounting the 5th best selling game of the year (plus all the awards) because you like games on other platforms is a mistake.

Graphics aren’t everything!

What makes you think it’s a handheld game? It was originally designed for and did release on the Wii U, a console

A personal argument for a benefit of gaming

I grew up hearing all the talking heads (media), religious groups and parents strongly criticizing video games. You've, probably, heard some of this. For example, video games involving any type of violence causing people to become more violent, etc. As far as I know, the academic community has failed to produce any negative...

It does! You can limit screen time, filter websites, and block apps from running. I’m not sure how well they work because I’ve never used them though

GammaGames ,
@GammaGames@beehaw.org avatar

If you search for “Screen Time & Limits” on their site you can get a preview.

I’ve been running elementary as my daily driver for years with few issues, so I definitely recommend! Make sure to try out the safety settings on a live cd first though, I can’t verify how the limits work for sites and apps

Besides lemmy, what's another good reddit alternative?

Hi! Recently exiled reddit user, here. I'm curious what other alternatives to reddit there are, besides Lemmy, and Raddle, of course. Also, imho, Phuks is a good alternative, there's no hate-speech (that I'm aware of) and people are pretty respectful. Anyways, let's hear your suggestions! Thank you!

Just not the main repo because of a blocking issue (which makes the above link pretty annoying)

How much does something like that cost to run? It would be awesome if I could watch the free curiosity stream and nebula on the platform
