Did something ever happen there, or why is everyone talking about it?

Andromxda OP ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Damn I didn't notice, usually I always double check my links before posting. Thanks for pointing this out!

It's not packaged for Fedora, as simple as that.

Unfortunately there's no Flatpak either. You can try asking in the Matrix channel: #alpaka:kde.org

Bad idea. Very bad idea, especially for more complex projects.

Libadwaita has been specifically designed for simple GNOME-style applications that only have one purpose and don't include many features. I wouldn't recommend it for complex project like a DAW.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It's also a bad idea if you want to build anything that's more complex than GNOME's single-purpose apps that lack all kinds of features. Building something as complex as a DAW would be a nightmare with libadwaita.

@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not libadwaita, but GNOME. GNOME apps are meant to be simple, and only do one single thing.

The best apps do one thing and do it well.

Resist the pull to try and make an app that suits all people in all situations. Focus on one situation, one type of experience.

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads ( www.techradar.com )

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

Overpriced, privacy-invasive streaming services that require shitty proprietary software to use them

I’d love to see those all around!

I don't think there's a way to disable this in the official launcher. There are many launchers that look and feel pretty similar to the stock one though. I think Lawnchair is the best example. I wouldn't recommend Nova Launcher (https://lemmy.ca/post/19914345). You can also just get rid of all the Google bloatware altogether and install GrapheneOS.

Maybe a Linux-native Lemmy app? Or a client for Mastodon? Pixelfed, PeerTube?

Or a GUI for the Rust-based rescrobbled project?

The base version of IntelliJ is FOSS, and they kinda offer perpetual licenses for their paid applications. If you subscribe for an entire year, you get a perpetual fallback license. It's just a license for an older version of the software, but you get to keep it forever. https://sales.jetbrains.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207240845-What-is-a-perpetual-fallback-license

That actually took me a second to understand, but it's a good one

I know that, but it uses some weird Markdown implementation where new lines aren't actually new lines for some reason. GitHub Markdown doesn't have this issue.

I'm glad that v19 of Lemmy introduced user-facing instance block settings. Just block hexbear and move on.

Then open it in a browser?

I also the normal Plasma panel, don't have any issues with it. They added quite a few Latte Dock features to the normal panel. Your desktop looks great btw!

But find is sloooow. fd is so much faster, because it's written in Rust and optimized for performance.

I can’t make the background transparent despite selecting the transparent option.

This might happen because of your theme, what Plasma theme do you use? Try the default Breeze theme to see if it fixes the issue.

They also make obtaining games for a reasonable price impossible, so hacking the switch is kinda necessary. And they make playing games with reasonable frame rates impossible, so emulating the Switch on a powerful PC is reasonable.

Doesn't it have ads?

Thunder already has notification support, and they are even working on enhanced notifications using UnifiedPush

Tried it, immediately uninstalled it after I saw that it has ads.

Really? We switched away from Reddit because it started forcing everyone to use their crappy, proprietary, ad-infested app, and now we use proprietary, ad-infested Lemmy apps?

Oh yeah I know about tldr. It's pretty great. I actually use a Rust version of it called teeldeer. I also have a whole lot of "disputable" aliases, for example rtfm for tldr and rtfmp (read the fucking man page) for man. I also use fucking for sudo. There's nothing better than running pacman -Syu, realizing the mistake and then typing in fucking pacman -Syu

@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Oh yes there is. ARMv9 MTE, Titan M2 secure element supporting Android Verified Boot, StrongBox (https://source.android.com/docs/security/features/keystore), Weaver, Hardware key attestation and Insider attack resistance, as well as a programmable USB controller that allows the user to fully disable USB-C (while the device is locked) on a hardware level. Pixels also have hardware support for full Wi-Fi MAC address randomization, and all radios are completely separated from the main system through IOMMU. I recommend this video, it's a pretty good breakdown of some of the hardware security features + the GrapheneOS privacy/security improvements.

Weird. I never had a single issue with the fingerprint sensor on the 6a, it literally works every time. It's just a little slow, it could maybe be a little bit faster. But you know what's a bad fingerprint sensor? Touch ID on older iPhones. That shit is terrible, never works for me.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Oh I never really noticed. Excited to try it out.
