    I don't want to say "I told you so", but I told you so.

    Interesting quotes:

    At the request of the English National Health Service, the senior pediatrician Hilary Cass has completed the most thorough consideration yet of this field, and her report calmly and carefully demolishes many common activist tropes. Puberty blockers do have side effects, Cass found. The evidence base for widely used treatments is “shaky.” Their safety and effectiveness are not settled science.

    We also don’t have strong evidence that social transitioning, such as changing names or pronouns, affects adolescents’ mental-health outcomes (either positively or negatively). We don’t have strong evidence that puberty blockers are merely a pause button, or that their benefits outweigh their downsides, or that they are lifesaving care in the sense that they prevent suicides.

    We don’t know why the number of children turning up at gender clinics rose so dramatically during the 2010s, or why the demographics of those children changed from a majority of biological males to a majority of biological females.

    Medicalized gender treatments for minors became wrapped up with a push for wider social acceptance for transgender people, something that was presented as the “next frontier in civil rights,” as Time magazine once described it. Any questions about such care were therefore read as stemming from transphobic hostility, full stop.

    Tesla Software Update Traps TikToker Inside 115-Degree Car ( gizmodo.com )

    According to the Tesla owner’s manual, “Vehicle functions, including some safety systems and opening or closing the doors or windows, may be limited or disabled when installation is in progress and you could damage the vehicle.” Janel chose to heed Tesla’s warning and did not attempt to open her doors or windows during...

    It’s important to mention these flaws with Tesla specifically, because Elon Musk doesn’t have the right politics.

    PS The name of this community is terribly ironic.

    The name of the community, the constant Tesla (Elon) bad postings on the front page, it’s getting ridiculous.

    I think the issue is more related to his takeover of Twitter and the massive purge of leftist ideologues from one of the world’s largest social media company. I’m almost certain this has nothing to do with cars.

    This is a massive loss of power and influence for these sorts of people. Now they are showing how much they are seething by playing all these games, like talking shit about Tesla lol.

    FYI, I don’t even like Tesla. I think it’s a cyberpunk dystopia on wheels. I would never buy one nor recommend it to anybody. This is not about cars.

    Blocking Data Scraping

    They need to keep all that data for themselves so that they can sell it.

    Michael Bloomberg is worth an estimated $106 billion — but you won't find him on the Bloomberg rich list ( finance.yahoo.com )

    His wealth has roughly tripled from $35.5 billion in 2015, making him one of only 14 people worth more than $100 billion by Forbes’ reckoning. Excluding his fortune leaves a sizable hole in the Bloomberg index.

    You would rather have drug dealers astroturfing online (“wholesome” marijuana threads on Reddit’s frontpage)?

    Guy: Stupid fat bitch slut!

    Who responds like that?

    I don’t have to be a woman to know that men generally don’t respond like that. This is silly.

    I’ve never seen a man respond like that to being rejected, ever.

    I understand what you are saying, and I don’t want to invalidate your concerns. I can see now that this comic resonates with women more than it would with a man.

    I can’t relate at all either from personal experience. My concern when reading something that I cannot relate to is that what I’m reading could have been astroturfed. We are in a pseudonymous discussion forum where anyone can LARP as anything and make shit up. It’s not a stretch to say that this vulnerability could be used to further agendas through manipulation in an organized manner.

    There are a few ways to verify what people are saying, that I know of. One is to use established studies, and another one is to use anecdotes. But if all I have is hearsay from some internet account, then I can’t take it as truthful until I have something that can verify it. It doesn’t mean I will discard what people say, or not take them seriously, but I will exercise caution.

    Anyway, upon further reflection on what people have said, I am inclined to take the concerns that OP (and others here) express more seriously. It’s wrong to say that these people can never exist, and I would not like to invalidate the fears that some women have for such people. I simply reacted based on my own anecdotal experience, but other people can be more unlucky than I, and may develop said fears.

    vegantomato ,
    @vegantomato@lemmy.world avatar

    Yeah, this comic could reflect the feelings of women who were unlucky enough to meet such outrageously bad people, or at least have the fear of meeting such a person.

    But to say that this is the rule is, I feel, a stretch.

    I have no idea what is going on. Is the article biased and not telling us something we should know about the reasoning behind these bills? Are these politicians taking payment from “big-meat”?

    Learn to solve problems using programming. Go learn Python. Stick with the basics and have fun. If you start worrying about losing older versions of your code, learn Git. Grow from there.

    Kubernetes? Microservices? Cloud platform? These are all distractions and a waste of your time.

    Cheetahs are 1/2 the speed of airplanes and 1/3 the speed of light. Ok, got it.

    vegantomato , (edited )
    @vegantomato@lemmy.world avatar

    y=log_a(x) <=> x=pow(a,y) where “a” is unknown. Let’s say the values of the progress bars in the image are in ]0,b]. That puts the cheetah on about b/5. It is know that cheetahs run at a maximum speed of 75mph. This gives us b/5=log_a(75) <=> pow(a,b/5)=75 <=> a=pow(75,5/b) Therefore, we have the relationship x=pow(75,pow(5/b,y)).

    For the speed of light, y=((b×3)/5). It is known that the speed of light is 671000000mph. That gives us x=pow(75,pow(5/b,(b×3)/5))=671000000mph <=> pow(75,pow(5/b,b))=514285405839088. For the airplane, y=((b×2)/5). The fastest airplane flied at about 2200mph. That gives us x=pow(75,pow(5/b,(b×2)/5))=2200mph <=> pow(75,pow(5/b,b))=227016123.

    514285405839088 =/= 227016123 (contradiction).

    Cannot be a logarithmic scale.

    Porn addict installing Linux

    Becomes a femboy

    Linux doesn’t make you a degen, watching porn does. Which OS you use is orthogonal to your porn habbits ;)

    @vegantomato@lemmy.world avatar

    It’s probably astroturfed by a few loud trannies (porn addicts) who haven’t seen the sun for a few months. If you check out the “code of conduct” of Lemmy and their criterias for delisting instances, you will understand why stuff like this survives and thrives. In an organic social media environment these people would’ve been called out x1000 harder for being obnoxious, making no sense, or being degenerates.

    If I had to pick a friend, I’d pick the fat guy. He is probably more wholesome than the guy that destroyed his brain by watching too much porn/anime garbage.

    vegantomato ,
    @vegantomato@lemmy.world avatar

    It’s good that you make that known. I hope that you find a good alternative.

    Personally, I’m also jumping out if common sense gets too censored around here.

    This is referring to a few books that were banned from school libraries a while ago (not sure what they were doing there in the first place).

    Anyway, one of the books that were banned showed males sucking each other off. That’s hardly something you would be eager to show a kid unless you are a groomer. A common theme between these books in general was that they were pornographic. The fact that there was, and still is an outrage from the LGBT community till this day because of the bans is telling.

    Also, do make note of the people here comparing the bans to Nazi Germany. Yeah, not showing kids gay porn is like being a Nazi, apparently. Disgusting.
