The term ā€œdivine spark of creativityā€ is meaningless if itā€™s used to describe something created by a non-human entity. Why? Let me explain, but note that I am not biased against machine learning systems or whatever weā€™re calling ā€œAIā€.

From what I can remember from my studies, the act of creation (in topics as broad as art, engineering, policy making) is inherently biased towards some kind of exploration and examination of how groups of humans can function together. Humans started creating to facilitate and ensure their propagation by communicating and sharing ideas in different ways. Ultimately, if we look at how things came to be in human history (of society, culture, religion, science etc) the goal of this organization around how we think and do things is to ensure our own development as a species.

Specifically, regarding a piece of ā€œartā€, whatever it may be: I disagree with anyone who says that ā€œjust because it makes me feel itā€™s artā€. Your drug-induced hallucinations can also make you feel, but theyā€™re not art because theyā€™re not an experience that anyone else but you can accommodate.

Similarly, I think that if a creator cannot understand or communicate with some sense of the human condition, their act of creation is devoid of meaning for human intellectual development, and is simply an exercise in mimicry of human creationā€”it gets the job done, but itā€™s not moving anything forward for the human collective. For any number of cynical reasons we may ā€œhateā€ people, but humans are really the only living organism that we know of which is capable of reasoning about the nature of reality and existence. It doesnā€™t mean anything to ā€œAIā€ that you or I or anything exists. Or that itself exists. So whatā€™s the point of its creation?

Sorry to ask, but could someone summarize the video? Cannot watch it rn, and will probably forget later.

That said, all organizations face this kind of ā€œwhatā€™s the orgs vision or characterā€ challenge. Thats why good leadership is important. Sometimes itā€™s best to cut loses and reorganize, and also market how youā€™re different now.

Supporting eugenics in any form is unconscionable, but people make mistakes and can grow from them. There are examples of KKK members who became activists in other direction, and we shouldnā€™t lock people in to their past bad decisions. I encourage the idea of ā€œreformed racistsā€.

As asinine as I think the idea of ā€œSatanā€ is in general, I see value in contenders and challengers to established religious authorities. As a rule, we should remove religion from policy making.

Death is permanent and cannot be undone. Once someone dies they take all their love, potential and beauty with them. We can only live with the memory of it, but that memory doesnā€™t have the ability to create new things or react to life in new ways.

That said, people should be able to end their suffering in a dignified manner of their choosing without suffering more. No one asked to be alive, itā€™s a burden imposed on them by the will of the living. The least we can do, then, is to make living as devoid of suffering as we can for everyone.

I am not sure how anyone can be ā€œweakā€ when they constantly face so much discrimination, bullying and harassment and choose to spread a message that is essentially love is love. Thatā€™s heroic, not weak. You know who else persisted with a message of love under duress and hardship? Jesus.

Disagree, the U.S. does a lot of things right which quietly go unnoticed because the failures are fun to point out (ā€œhaha Richie rich state is failing looolā€). All countries have their issues, and the U.S. desperately needs market socialism.

But please give me an example of any other top GDP country in the world where immigrants can become elected officials (not president) at the federal level. Russia? China? India? All of the other examples in top GDP earners are inherently xenophobic.

Is ā€œdiversity hireā€ a slur? If not, then why donā€™t we question the competence or qualifications of non-POC hires? Like why are non-POC hires not ā€œcronyism hireā€ or ā€œfamiliarity hireā€?

Iā€™ve seen this too much in the media and other places, and I am kinda sick of seeing people get unfairly criticized or sidelined.

A lot of comments are questioning Trumps appeal after listening to him talk, but I think I understand why heā€™s appealing to his base and I think that itā€™s the same reason many are finding Biden a repellant: people are mired in uncertainties about their futures, their families futures and that of things they thought were tried and true (work hard, get job, get house and raise family). People like how Trump sounds certain and sure and strong, even if some of them donā€™t like what heā€™s saying. They want someone certain and sure to lead them when theyā€™re feeling uncertain. The counter to Trump is to use reassuring and strong language for similar themes (job security, inflation, climate, housing, migrants, health). Or at least I think so, I could be wrong.

nifty ,
@nifty@lemmy.world avatar

He does lie, but he also delivers at times. I donā€™t doubt for a second heā€™s going to do away with trans protections on ā€œday oneā€. My issue is that the Biden admin has also delivered over and over again, but the Biden admin actions are not accompanied by ā€œstrongmanā€ rhetoric so get downplayed.

As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music?

As an example. I grew up in hip-hop but at a certain point I stopped listening to new people and realised recently that Iā€™d slept on some bangers. Like Kendrick particularly, but even people like Juice WRLD and Xxxtentacion....

Bandcamp is nice, they have a curated genre section that updates frequently. College radio stations as someone mentioned, then just Shazam or whatever or look at their playlist online. I hate Spotify because it just gives you pop shit and doesnā€™t do anything niche or indie. Thereā€™s also SoundCloud, they make curated playlists of new stuff frequently. Sound cloud also has labels on there which curate some of their newest bands. Itā€™s super easy to find niche indie labels I think. Lastly, look at lineups of local music spots. I used to listen to Deezer for finding non-US artists, but havenā€™t used it in a while since Bandcamp is kinda great about covering everywhere.

He could be signaling to some cult or secret society that he will literally let them eat people if he wins (/s)

Or heā€™s signaling to his base that they should go all Brevik and kill brown and black people (not /s)

Or he has dementia (also not /s)

There are many options, but the ā€œeasiestā€ one which comes to mind is to cap CEO pay at some value, like 2 mil say, and increase wages for lowest earners to a living wage. This is effectively moving the same money around, so shouldnā€™t really result in inflation, but I am not an economist.

Secondly, the nature of reality requires caps on expected profit margins, and shareholder expectations need to be adjusted. If people expect unmitigated growth, then they need to open up to exploring the universe (literally). Given that the universe is boundless, all our calculus based on resource limitations will need to change.

The end of democracy in the U.S. is not going to come from fascist conservatives, but from too-busy-with-life normies, the type who donā€™t vote in anything but presidential elections. Theyā€™re just too busy to notice anything other than their bills.

In their minds, theyā€™re going to ā€œpunishā€ the blues for inflation while ignoring that the reds only ever made them poorer. These type of people donā€™t care about genocides (someone elseā€™s problem, thereā€™s always brown people dying, Israel is an ally etc), abortion rights (only stupid people get pregnant or only sluts need that), or trans people (thatā€™s too weird for them). They donā€™t care about climate change (itā€™s a topic up for debate, itā€™s not factual), but have kids. They donā€™t care about workers rights, but work deadend or multiple jobs. They donā€™t care about getting more healthcare rights, but are a medical emergency away from bankruptcy.

I am not saying these people are dumb or callous, they need outreach and they need to be presented clearly with their options and outcomes. If you can, volunteer to sign people up to vote and present whatā€™s at stake.

How is macOS hipster? Apple products are so damn popular.

nifty ,
@nifty@lemmy.world avatar

Hmm idk man, anything that has ads playing everywhere 24/7 is not hipster, hipster is unknown, but stylish etc. Hipster is more trendsetter and macOS is not a trendsetter, itā€™s just a trend at this point. Anything pop by definition is not hipster.

To give a pithy example: macOS is to tech hipsters what hot topic is to goth hipsters
