It's about what I would expect from the kind of person who buys squeezy jelly.

I've never heard of this band but Wikipedia tells me Believer came out in 2017... lol how old can you possibly be?

klemptor ,
@klemptor@startrek.website avatar

The thing is, I don't want to have to look for it. Growing up I could turn on the radio and hear amazing music on pretty much any popular channel. Depeche Mode, Billy Idol, David Bowie, REM, XTC, Goo Goo Dolls, En Vogue, Green Day, Alanis Morrissette, Boyz II Men, Sarah MacLachlan, and so many others. It was a preponderance of great music with some shitty stuff interspersed.

I’m almost 50 years old and I’ve never used a check in my entire life.

How is this possible? How did you pay your bills before online billpay systems - did you pay them all by phone?

I'm in my early 40s and still use checks now and again.

I’m older now and appreciate birds

This is 100% how it goes.

I'm familiar with the usage here but what does it mean to Gen Z?

Nope! Maybe my one-year-old niece babbled something like that once.

I really like the Harry & David's chocolate covered cherries. Also malt balls, Good n Plentys, Ferrero Rocher, popcorn and peach jelly bellies, and anything with a dark chocolate ganache.

I'm currently rereading A Clockwork Orange and yep, it's pretty fucked up.

I'm a pacifist, so no, I don't think I could live with myself if I took another person's life, unless it were in self-defense. I would nope the fuck outta the country though, and relinquish citizenship.

Minidisc. My then-boyfriend bought me a recorder for Xmas 2002 and I was absolutely in love with it. I still use minidisc but I think for most people it was a flash in the pan - it didn't have the staying power that I thought it would.

Also ephedra - right before it was banned, all the women in my office went through the Atkins -> Xenadrine -> Pilates fads. Holy crap did that suck. Atkins made me stink (ketosis) and xenadrine make me shaky, dizzy, and irate. I was too poor for pilates haha. The entire office was miserable!

From a high rise, people at street level look like ants. But in this case there are actual massive ants on the side of the building.

Do you practice self care?

Hello. Let's talk about self-care. Who practices self-care regularly? I've been making an absolute effort to practice self-care, and it's definitely improving my mood. I floss, meditate, do qigong, breathwork, etc. Yes, flossing is self-care, take care of yo teefs. What does everyone do for self-care? Bonus question: Where else...

klemptor ,
@klemptor@startrek.website avatar

I do some self-care things that don't seem huge but really help me feel like I'm on top of things.

For example, I have a skincare routine which is a little time-consuming (about 15 minutes each time) but has really helped take my skin from normal to beautiful. I'm 42 but I don't look my age, and in part that's down to genetics, but also hydration and skin care.

I also see a personal trainer three times a week at my gym for strength training, and even though I hate cardio, I try to incorporate it on my off days.

Nutrition is an important part of self-care for me, and I cook most meals at home. I love going out to eat but the food in most restaurants is so unhealthy and/or high-calorie, which is especially annoying as a short woman. I try to limit myself to about 1450-1500 calories a day, and getting an entrée and a couple of drinks at a restaurant can easily meet my daily calorie limit if I'm not careful.

Also, nail art! I've recently gotten into stamping and it's so much fun, and I get a lot of compliments :)

And I have a strict dog-snuggling schedule, which always brings a smile to my face ;)

Keurig's new K-Rounds coffee pods are plastic-free and could finally make single-serve coffee-making sustainable ( www.techradar.com )

This is quite exciting in that it removes plastic waste. I see no reason why different companies can't make different shape ones to maintain their lock-in. I expect a knock-off market to pop-up, but that exists with plastic pods too. It's a step in the right direction at least.

I know it's not as expensive as some others here, but a basement window. I was a latchkey kid, and one afternoon I'd come home from school and taken the dog out for a walk. When we got home, some neighborhood kids showed up and we were playing in the backyard with the dog, and I didn't get around to unlocking the house. And then somehow I lost my keys. I knew my folks would be furious with me for goofing off and losing my keys rather than doing my homework, so I was laser focused on getting inside the house. I took a pipe and broke a basement window, planning to climb inside, let the dog in, and then find a way to fix the window without my parents knowing. (I don't remember what I was planning to do about the lost keys.) And of course, the minute I broke the window, they pulled into the driveway and saw what was going on, and I was grounded for like an eon after that. I'm in my 40s and they still bring it up now and then. My dad replaced the windowpane himself but he was too grumpy to show me how, lol.

Overall, it's a pretty stupid story!

@klemptor@startrek.website avatar

What a sad story, and also sweet since your mom handled it so kindly!

klemptor ,
@klemptor@startrek.website avatar

Oh yeah, I hear ya - my mother had no chill. She flew off the handle over the smallest things. I moved out as soon as I could and was estranged from them for several years.

klemptor ,
@klemptor@startrek.website avatar

I would straighten it out and then sew it into a pair of jeans near the fly. They would need to inspect every fly seam in every pair of jeans to find it.

klemptor ,
@klemptor@startrek.website avatar

My friends did that, but my mother would've killed me - she thought that was no different than theft lol

Remember the 10-10-321 commercials? Or actually I think it was 10-321 originally.
