If you look at the replies a lot of people are thinking copyright trolls are responsible and it's not actually Nintendo

Just an elaborate setup for the honeymoon

The 165-Year-Old Novel That Helped Inspire ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ ( collider.com )

If The Dark Knight felt like a relentless crime thriller inspired by the cinema of Michael Mann, The Dark Knight Rises explored the spiritual and emotional journey of Christian Bale’s version of Bruce Wayne. By connecting to the storyline involving the League of Shadows first introduced in Batman Begins, Nolan and his brother...

The title kind of seems like clickbait. If you wanted to change that you could alter it to be something like:

Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities: The 165-Year-Old Novel That Helped Inspire ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Did the premise of an entity approaching you only when it's not being viewed originate with Doctor Who's Weeping Angels?

The Weeping Angels apparently originated with Steven Moffat seeing a statue of a weeping angel in a structure in a cemetery and returning later to find out it was gone. At least according to this RadioTimes article. They first appeared in 2007 in the episode Blink....

“We want to ensure that people have maximum control to the extent that it doesn’t violate the law or other peoples’ rights,” Joanne Jang, a member of the product team at OpenAI, told NPR. “There are creative cases in which content involving sexuality or nudity is important to our users.”

The other problem in my mind is the fallibility of current safeguards. OpenAI and rivals have been refining their filtering and moderation tools for years. But users constantly discover workarounds that enable them to abuse the companies’ AI models, apps and platforms.

Some highlights from the article.

It seems like AI porn is inevitable and OpenAI has safeguards in mind for exploitative content so it doesn't seem like a horrendous idea.

To find very specific content?

CorrodedCranium , (edited )
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Am I the only one who finds this so weird when we talk about LLMs? If someone makes a bot that resembles some specific person, that person’s rights aren’t really violated, and since they’re all fictional content, it is very hard to break actual laws through its content. At that point we would have to also ban people’s weird fan fiction, no?

Not arguing about whatever they want or don’t want on their platform, but the legal & alleged moral questions / arguments always weird me out a bit, because there’s no one actually getting hurt in any sort of way by weirdos having weird chats with computers.

I could see some people making the argument that it could be considered defamatory especially in cases where it is being peddled as real. Politicians might even try to link it in with revenge porn or other non-consensual pornography laws.

It would sure get messy in a hurry though. Imagine someone trying to make lewd photos of Tomb Raider's Laura Croft for example and accidentally generates images resembling Alicia Vikander or Angelina Jolie from the Tomb Raider movie.

I recall some people using Akinator to find pornstars they might be interested so you might be onto something.

CorrodedCranium ,

I feel like it's going to be a challenge to find a definition of malicious most people agree on.

Someone might think it's fine to make nudes of Captain Marvel for example because she's a character. They don't really care about the Brie Larson aspect.

I suppose there is the option to eliminate any kind of name based suggestions.

I feel like hair dye for dogs must be a thing. Though it sounds like they used human hair dye on them.

If it didn't hurt them I'd think this is a little cute

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Yeah but I like to think I am a bit better about not ingesting hair care products through my eyes, nose, and mouth than a Schnauzer. Hopefully it was something non-toxic

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Yeah I feel like it's similar to movies in a way. You can only push so much money and development into something before you start seeing diminishing returns.

Perfect Dark Reboot Is Allegedly In Bad Shape ( www.gamespot.com )

I don't think big companies know how to make a good FPS campaign anymore, let alone hone in on classic deathmatch multiplayer. The last FPS I bought was Half-Life: Alyx four years ago, and the first one to come along and interest me since then was Phantom Fury, but I'm letting that one iron out bugs for a few weeks before I...

It's like nostalgia blinders.

An example a lot of people here can relate to is thinking about game consoles and handhelds they played growing up like the GBA.

There were likely some great games produced for it but there was also a lot of shovelware movie tie-ins and horrendous ports that were misrepresented in advertisements.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

I really hope Valve doesn't start making small incremental changes to the Steam Deck like devices in the emulation handheld scene (Powkiddy, Anbernic, etc.) do.

I'd feel a lot less incentivised to buy one if I felt like my device was going to immediately age out. I imagine less developers would make system settings specifically for the Steam Deck like Cyberpunk 2077 did or design third party peripherals.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Any reason they are releasing it now instead of when the game or the show released?

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

That's unfortunate. A nice gesture but it's a bit late. Kind of like removing online DRM immediately before a game becomes abandonware.

I'd say most people who regularly vape probably do. A significant amount of them also vape indoors.

I used to and the smell didn't really cling to things and it didn't yellow the walls. I did notice little specs in an almost sneeze like pattern though.

Another I haven't actually read this comment but this post reminded me of The Turner Diaries and Thought Slime's video about it.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

It seems silly to me.

It's essentially rehashing the debate of people being more comfortable with violence than sexual content. A game can have someone getting vivisected with a shotgun and no one really cares but having full frontal nudity will end up with a game that has articles written about it.

From what I've heard Stellar Blade didn't have full frontal nudity or anything remotely close to that level but the outfits were toned down. I don't think it's really necessary especially when you can choose which outfit the protagonists wears.

I feel like this has been the norm for a while though with games getting released here in the west with women being less sexualized. I'm kind out of the loop about Stellar Blade so I'm not sure if it was censored globally.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

I think it depends on the developer. They might lump it in with other realism things like hair physics.

I think what OP is talking about is things being removed. It doesn't have much to do with optimising the game.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

I get that. I'm saying showing less thigh doesn't make the game run faster and developers might not view something like that as a waste.

... apparently boobs now.

I feel like jiggle physics has been around for just as long

I am curious how this is going to effect the number of active players. I know a lot of people who were trying to get me to play this saying it was here to stay and not a trend like a Lethal Company but I feel like this hurdle might be enough to get them to give up.

I definitely have a low level of tolerance for Russian nesting dolls of accounts and launchers.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

This is on PC and unlike some other ported PS games I don't think there is an option to play offline I imagine a lot of people are going to be creating PSN accounts I'd say that's a hurdle for some people.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

As I said in another comment I think it's more about people having to create another account.

I also don't know how or if PSN integration is going to impact matchmaking.

Two Chinese nationals charged in US with trying to export banned semiconductor machinery to China — one arrested in Chicago ( www.tomshardware.com )

Two Chinese nationals have been charged for an alleged scheme to illegally export a semiconductor dicing machine to a Chinese tech company. One of the two, Han Li, 44, was arrested in Chicago on Wednesday, while Lin Chen, 64, is believed to be in China. The charges and arrest are the latest developments in a protracted trade war...

@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

I wonder how they got caught with all the tech that goes back and forth between the US and China.

It seems like the US was aware of their plans based off of the articles wording but I'd be curious to hear how they originally were flagged. I wonder if it was just for buying the DTX 150 Scribe and Break machine from Dynatex and possibly being Chinese citizens.

Steamdeck setup without PC

I’m considering purchasing a steamdeck. I may be away from my computer when I get the steamdeck. Could there be any issues with setting up games without access to a computer with my steam account? I assume cloud saves will be available. What about setting up a game that requires rockstar launcher?...

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

You can install TTW on the Steam Deck. You could probably set it up in Lutris and just alter the selected executable back and forth throughout the installation process.

That said Gnarly Repacks has a TTW repack that streamlines the process.

How did you come across this post by the way? Just curious considering it's three months old.

CorrodedCranium ,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

I found this post by doing a search for “TTW” on mbin and got lucky. YouTube and Reddit have been all but useless as tutorials all assume you have a windows pc for heavy lifting. I got a deck to be my pc.

Neat. By the way check the megathread for Gnarly's reentry page. His old website is down.
