Can you access the command line and install wireguard? If so you can pretty easily set up and connect to proton vpn without needing the proton von app.

harsh3466 ,

I noped out as soon as I read that line.

    +1

Just started using purelymail and it’s great.

This is Brewster, who is so demanding about being loved, and yet so particular about it. He won’t come on my lap while on the couch, or in my office chair or in the reading chair, or anywhere else.

He’ll stomp around and yell, or roll around on the floor acting cute, or start clawing whatever furniture I’m on that’s not the bed until I get into bed, and I have to be under the covers, with this particular blanket, and then he’ll let me pet him. He’s such a doofus and I love him.

    harsh3466 ,

I’m not bashing your opinion, if you don’t mind it that’s cool.

I do mind it. I cancelled prime years ago already because two day shipping somehow was never two day, so I’ll never see one of these pause ads.

That being said, I mind the idea of it a lot because I often pause to see something on the screen. Be it a text message in a show or something else written/printed, the cinematography, the lighting, the outfits, etc…. Fuck if I ever want an ad thrown up blocking the actual content I want to inspect in more detail.

    harsh3466 ,

    Jellyfin is great!

    harsh3466 OP ,

Hahaha. Nicely done. Took me a minute to get it!

    harsh3466 OP ,

Me too! They were delicious. Thank you!

    harsh3466 OP ,

It’s under all the onions and tomatoes. This wasn’t the best angle to show the tzatziki.

    harsh3466 OP ,

    Thank you!

    harsh3466 ,

That’s what I do. If a website blocks me because of my vpn, fuck em. I don’t waste my time. What business of theirs is it if I’m using a vpn.

    harsh3466 ,

If you’re just doing a vanilla Linux install, ext4 is the way to go.

    harsh3466 ,

That sucks. The last gym I was at had the access cards too which was great. I’m fortunate now to be able to have a home gym, so I don’t have to worry about that kind of enshittification.

Oh dang. How fun. I never even considered thematically making my machines! Mine are super mundane.

    • machine - main server
    • osmc - Kodi media box for tv
    • kmac - old iMac running kde neon
    • tunnelpi - raspberry pi 4 wireguard tunnel access point
    • mini- Mac mini my wife uses for day to day use.

Now I’m going to have to find a theme and start renaming machines! I might go with Magic the Gathering as my theme.

Edit: formatting, and added MtG as potential theme

Edit 2: fixed stupid autocorrect error (theatrically to thematically)

Simple fix on KDE wayland for windows to remember their last position ( imgur.com )

Thanks to /u/[email protected] for mentioning KDE window rules. In KDE, we can add rules for windows so that they behave in specific ways. One rule that can be added is the position: remember rule, and it's possible to make that rule apply to all windows by removing the match field. This way, closing and reopening...

This is great. Thank you for sharing!! I was just thinking about how I wanted this and knew it had to exist in the settings but hadn’t gotten around to looking up how to accomplish it.

    harsh3466 ,

Currently running Navidrome on my server and using substreamer on mobile, with the webui on desktop.

    harsh3466 ,

+1 for mealie. Been running it for maybe six months now and it’s great.

    harsh3466 ,

Just got some “your server is misconfigured” message when I logged in to my server on element web (on a machine I haven’t installed element desktop on yet) and when I click the link it takes me to this GitHub page talking about camel case vs snake case. All that’s great, but I’m running dendrite and my entire dendrite config file is snake case. 🤷‍♂️

    harsh3466 ,

Nice!!! I’ve been using the audiobookshelf beta for my server, but I like the look of Plappa. Gonna give it a spin!

    harsh3466 ,

Also been thinking about doing something like this. Would love to hear about your experience deploying it.

Apple Removes WhatsApp, Threads, Telegram, and Signal from China App Store, says it complied with orders from the Chinese government ( arstechnica.com )

Apple said it complied with orders from the Chinese government to remove the Meta-owned WhatsApp and Threads from its App Store in China. Apple also removed Telegram and Signal from China....

    harsh3466 ,

    Privacy. That’s iPhone.

Unless the government says otherwise. Because really we don’t give a fuck about you or your privacy.

    harsh3466 ,

    Literally a tool of capitalism

    From the article:

As it turns out, what we consider a “coffee break” in the United States is actually explicitly tied to a 1955 court case, the United States vs. Phil Greinetz of Los Wigwam Weavers.

Greinetz owned the Denver tie factory Los Wigwam Weavers and, after World War II, struggled to find staff up for the surprisingly arduous task of tie making. To encourage productivity, he introduced mandatory coffee breaks so that workers would have the energy to make it through their shifts fully alert. One problem, though. Like bad bosses throughout history, Greinetz didn’t want to pay his employees for the time he demanded they spend drinking coffee. Eventually, the U.S. Department of Labor became involved, with the court ultimately deciding, in a rare win for the working person, that employers had to cover coffee breaks since the business was positively affected by employees being jacked up on caffeine.

    harsh3466 ,

Haha. That’d kill me. I’ve never been a coffee drinker. No hate on coffee, I’ve just never enjoyed it.

    Edit: stupid autocorrect

    harsh3466 ,

My immediate reaction was the same. I don’t trust the NSA at all, but I’m certainly not going to trust anything this site says when it’s shilling the article as an NFT.

What's a common occurrence in your hobby that you think shouldn't be?

For me it’s driving while under the influence. If you couldn’t tell, I like me some ganja. However I have long since held the belief that it is utterly insane to drive while under the influence of most substances, with maybe nicotine and caffeine being the exception. All too often I see other stoners smoking and driving,...

    harsh3466 ,

This. I won’t play at my lgs because of this, and because I want to play, not be locked out of the game by your broke ass tier 0 $2000 deck.

Also, I don’t buy magic cards anymore because fuck WotC. I will keep and play with my existing cards with my friends. I won’t willingly give WotC another penny.

    harsh3466 ,

I’m trying to get my play group to talk about proxies. I’d love to get a decent color laser printer and some card stock so we could all play some cards we could never afford, but they’re not into it. I don’t push it, I just mention it once in awhile when it’s t comes up naturally. In the end, idgaf. I’d just love to make some dumb ass commander decks by proxy.

    harsh3466 ,

Me either. I mean, it’s only going to amp up the fun. None of us are ever gonna be able to afford a Black Lotus, but it sure as hell would be fun to proxy it.

And I made it clear I’m all for setting guidelines up for our proxying, so if they want to say, not allow the power nine, then fine. There’s still a fuckton of cards I’d love to play with that I’ll never buy.

    Oh well.

    harsh3466 ,

    MOAR SOCKS

    harsh3466 ,

If you’re gonna dive into sed and awk, I’d also highly recommend learning at least the basics of regular expressions. The book Mastering Regular Expressions has been tremendously helpful for me.

    Edit: a letter. Stupid autocorrect.

    harsh3466 ,

First thing I looked at as well. Shame. I’ll buy them when my AirPods die if they offer shipping to the us.

    harsh3466 ,

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I’m a person with ears that do not work with silicone tips either. I love the fit of AirPods. Tried AirPods Pro, and for my ears, they suck. Doesn’t matter what size tips I use, they seal poorly and fall out constantly. Regular AirPods fit great.

    Edit: grammar

Edit 2: that being said, I want to try these because I really want replaceable batteries for my earbuds. It may be moot for me though as I live in the US and currently they aren’t shipping to the US.

    harsh3466 ,

I haven’t used the clones yet, but I’ll likely go with something like that when these die.

    harsh3466 ,

I enjoyed the first movie, and was looking forward to the second, but I just have no desire to watch it now. I don’t know what changed, but I just don’t care.

Roku has patented a way to show ads over anything you plug into your TV ( arstechnica.com )

A patent application from the company spotted by Lowpass describes a system for displaying ads over any device connected over HDMI, a list that could include cable boxes, game consoles, DVD or Blu-ray players, PCs, or even other video streaming devices. Roku filed for the patent in August 2023 and it was published in November...

    harsh3466 ,

Sadly, Firefox + ublock is becoming unreliable. I routinely can’t play YouTube videos on my desktop computer with that setup (+ a vpn) because google just won’t serve them. I just get perpetual loading screens.

    harsh3466 ,

I know nothing of the implications of developing what you’re proposing, but I 1000% support it and would actually start listening to podcasts again if it ever came to fruition and I could use it.

    harsh3466 ,

It’s not specifically anti-ad, but the lemmy privacy community regularly discusses ad-blocking as it very much overlaps with privacy.

    harsh3466 ,

First, fuck Roku. This is exactly why my roku tv is not connected to the internet and never will be. My kodi box handles my entertainment needs.

    your favorite homelab applications

Hi, just recently it’s foss had an article about homelabs. Of course I digged in, since there is a small nuc working tirelessly in the corner of my routers closet. So far it just crawls some web pages for me and sends emails accordingly to my filters. So I hoped to find new exciting stuff to let it crunch through. The articles...

    harsh3466 ,

This is entirely anecdotally just my experience. I’m using musicbrainz Picard for my id/tagging and so far I haven’t had any issues.

I’ve got my music in Jellyfin as well, and I can always use that as a fallback if Navidrome does end up fucking me.

    harsh3466 ,

I’m really happy to be hosting my own password manager.

Regarding baserow, I use it in a couple of ways. First is as a replacement for Google Sheets. For my use case, I only ever really used sheets as a dumb database, (home inventory, etc…) so I don’t need the spreadsheet parts of the spreadsheet much.

The other thing I use it for is a backend for my automations for data. Baserow has wonderful api documentation right in the gui, and I use that a lot with data logging for myself.

    harsh3466 ,

The article has some valid points about wanting certain kinds of notifications from an app, and hating the spam notifications those apps send.

However, iOS does indeed allow you to grant or deny an app notifications permission on first launch, and my default is to always deny.

The only apps I allow notifications for are phone, calendar, messages, my tasks, and my automations (shortcuts and some associated apps)
