It's not that crazy if you're not committing to all-out war. Even if you bomb someone into the stone age, you still can't control their territory without boots on the ground. Then it's a land war, and people build defensive fighting positions, and the trench is very effective.

catloaf ,

Wouldn't they blow it up? Seems like that's their usual choice, since it makes a statement, not subtle sabotage.

Iranian President Raisi feared dead as helicopter wreckage found ( www.yahoo.com )

(Reuters) -Hopes are fading that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister have survived a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain and icy weather, an Iranian official said on Monday after search teams located the wreckage. "President Raisi's helicopter was completely burned in the crash ... unfortunately, all...

catloaf ,

Probably not at all. I'm no expert on Iran, but I'm pretty sure I've never heard about the president of Iran on the news at all. Ayatollah Khamenei, on the other hand, plenty of times.

Problem is that asteroids are very hard to see, as they are both cold and dark, meaning they don't stand out against space very much at all. And even a micrometeoroid poses a risk even when traveling at low velocities (e.g. someone orbiting earth, the meteoroid itself has a relatively high velocity). Getting hit by a 1cm meteoroid at warp 1 would be devastating.

Hippocrates also described the four humors.

Their theory of atoms was also that they were indivisible, being the most basic building block of all matter. Obviously now we know that that's not true.

They described a lot of things, and were wrong more often than not. Their biggest contribution was really just progress in the scientific method itself.

These wrecks will be leaking fuel and other nasty stuff for a long time. It'll probably hurt the environment more than help.

catloaf ,

I'm pretty sure that that's not how that works.

Shitty paper boxes with heavy contents get beat up and broken pretty easily.

Or "a helicopter does not fly so much as beat the air into submission".

I don't think it's meditation and yoga, it's stuff like backpacking and survival skills.

Jeff Bezos revealed his secret to Amazon’s success 25 years ago: ‘I asked everyone around here to wake up terrified every morning, their sheets drenched in sweat’ ( www.cnbc.com )

Back in the 90s, Jeff Bezos went on record as hoping his employees would wake up on the wrong side of the bed—for the greater good, or for the customer at the very least....

Do you think we could put him and Elon Musk and all the other billionaire assholes on the B ark and send them to Mars?

catloaf ,

Unlikely. Docker is cross-platform, just use the existing guides like https://trash-guides.info/.

Babies are both very fragile and very resilient. For example, bones don't start hardening and fusing for several years, so they can take a lot of bumps and such. I haven't read the article, but it's possible that the wounds were just grazing.

Israeli army appears to be using Gaza hospital, school as bases, Washington Post reports ( www.haaretz.com )

Israeli soldiers appear to be using the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in the Gaza Strip as a br for military operations, and, since March, also a school in the village of Juhor ad Dik, which is located about one kilometer from the border with Israel and was destroyed in the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip, indicated...

Fun fact, this makes them valid military targets. Hamas would be fully justified in attacking them.

Jesus is their savior, Trump is their candidate. Ex-president's backers say he shares faith, values ( apnews.com )

As Donald Trump increasingly infuses his campaign with Christian trappings while coasting to a third Republican presidential nomination, his support is as strong as ever among evangelicals and other conservative Christians....

Never heard the saying "ignorance is bliss"?

And if it's a repeater, it will halve your bandwidth. Actual mesh APs are a bit better, but you're still taking every packet and rebroadcasting it. And if the device only has one radio, I don't think they can listen and transmit at the same time.

I don't know any specifics, but a bunch of ropes divides the force on each one. A bunch of ropes, plus people pushing from behind, would probably be enough force to overcome static friction without exceeding tensile limits on any one rope.

They're external, you're not going to be using them for performance anyway.

Yeah, there's a lot more going on than the headline would lead you to believe.

Also, the past tense of wind is wound.

"Trails Carolina" is one of those "wilderness therapy" camps, for additional context.

AIPAC is antisemitic. You heard it here first, folks.

Not just the IDF. The entire government of Israel is complicit.

It's not like it would be enforced for them.

Trying to and able to are two different things.

It doesn't? Have you not seen any of the articles about AI-generated images being used for misinformation?

catloaf ,

Have you actually looked at data or are you just going by feel based on how many news articles you see?

Magician David Copperfield Accused of Grooming, Groping, and Drugging Women ( www.rollingstone.com )

Magician David Copperfield is facing allegations of drugging women before sexual encounters, groping women during live performances, and behaving inappropriately with women who were significantly younger than him — including under 18 — in a new investigative piece in The Guardian....

catloaf ,

I'm 33 as well and I know who he is, despite never seeing any of his performance.

But you know, you could open the article where presumably it gives the context. It's better than a comment that only serves to make you look like an idiot.

Yeah, they've been industrious for decades. Not much choice when your natural resources are mostly mountains and minerals. Before the split, most industry was in the north and agriculture was in the south. In fact, the Kaesong industrial complex on the border was built to allow both countries to benefit from their resources (SK having money and NK having cheap labor).

Electric leafblowers exist. That problem is already solved.

catloaf ,

Leafblowers are used to collect it into a pile which is then raked/shoveled into a bin. The blower is much faster and less effort than the rake at collecting everything into the pile.

catloaf ,

Yeah, well, you can't fix stupid.

Although if there isn't that much, I suppose letting it dry and break down in the local environment is better than putting it in a landfill. If there's a lot of it, then at least in cities I've lived in, they can and do ticket for putting yard waste or shoveling snow in the street.

It would probably be the storage controller chipset.

But given the number of errors I see just skimming that page, I wouldn't trust any of those specs.

California university president put on leave for ‘insubordination’ after meeting Gaza protesters’ demands ( www.politico.com )

California State University placed Sonoma State campus President Mike Lee on leave Wednesday after he agreed to protesters’ demands to involve them in university decision-making and pursue divestment from Israel.

catloaf , (edited )

“Yesterday the President of Sonoma State University aligned the campus with BDS, a movement whose goal is the destruction of Israel, home to 7M Jews,” Wiener wrote on X Wednesday. “Several other UC & CSU campuses are doing this more subtly. Sonoma State simply said the quiet part out loud. The mask is off.”

"The mask is off" is right. Weiner doesn't care about the 2m non-Jewish people in Israel, or the 35,000 people in Gaza that Israel has killed. Weiner is clearly a Zionist on the side of genocide.

Don't forget that this started with the HOA declaring that part of your land is now someone else's home.

Hamas did actually fire mortars at the beach before the pier was anchored, targeting the IDF. I don't think they're going to fire at the pier itself or any other militaries.

catloaf ,

What happened next? Seems like they'd have the prisoner's dilemma at that point.

US military says Gaza Strip pier project is completed, aid to soon flow as Israel-Hamas war rages on ( apnews.com )

The U.S. military finished installing a floating pier for the Gaza Strip on Thursday, with officials poised to begin ferrying badly needed humanitarian aid into the enclave besieged over seven months of intense fighting in the Israel-Hamas war....

catloaf ,

And once Israel completes the genocide I'm sure they'll be quite happy that the US built them a pier.

Nah. I'm just surprised that you're still engaging. It's not good for your health, dude. When I find myself arguing with idiots, I put down my phone and go do something else. I find it's much better.
