what's a good alternative if one's using GMaps mainly for travelling instead of navigation (i.e. looking up nearby restaurants and getting reviews, public transport, attractions and their opening hours, etc.)?
that’s the thing - put tech in stuff where it makes sense. no one needs an Internet connected toothbrush or a smart fridge, they’re just useless gadgets
it would be amazing if they could just add a mobile ui to Smarttube (best android tv app imho) - it supports login, adblock, sponsorblock & dearrow, you can cast to it, etc. - and it’s updated constantly, via a prompt in the app, no external download or play store necessary
In the eyes of the law, ownership is one of the most fundamental and strongest rights, i’m surprised they managed to pull this off in general without it being unconstitutional
If you’re travelling to another country, you also get a different culture, architecture, cuisine,… even if it’s “close by”. That’s the real criticism here that people don’t get, if you’re only travelling within the US, everything’s pretty much the same, and you’ll never expand your horizon much
regarding your first question - they usually go after the big fish first. dbzer0 might still be flying under the radar, and also might be ina different jurisdiction where the specific plaintiff can’t go after them, or where it’s harder for them to do so
how? my macbook pro is seven years old, and the latest macOS i could get is two major versions behind. I’ve tried installing linux and apparently it is a generation that is particularly troubled, with an endless list of broken things curated on github. eventually bad Bluetooth- and no internal audio-support was a showstopper to keep using it

while i see where you’re coming from, being able to message WhatsApp users from a client app that respects privacy would be better than being forced to have WhatsApp installed on your device, with it snooping casually on your everyday device usage and your contact list and so on.
WhatsApp is the only Facebook app on my phone and i’d love to get rid of it without losing the ability to message all those buffons using it (which make up for 99% of my social circle)
