Actually no, the weabs get the credit for this one.

Finally getting over a nasty sinus infection. That screwed over my whole last week. Thrilled to be standing/moving around and have enough energy to do more than sit and stare at a screen.

Making bread to make sandwiches (a couple loaves of honey oatmeal and a loaf of rye)

Going back to work tomorrow but at least pretty well rested. Was getting sick and tired of being... sick and tired.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Of course!

rips honey oatmeal loaf in half

I ain't sharing the rye tho

Can't have a government without people to govern.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Which is weird, because doing nothing is only going to cost more and more as time goes on.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Bit of both really. I am however in absolute awe that the Tolkien estate hasn't raised hell on them for using that as their name though.

The Trinidad Scorpion pepper is hot, but has an EXTREMELY delicious fruity flavor that I haven't had from any other pepper.

Carolina reapers just taste/smell like gasoline.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I've got one called "La Jefa" from SauceBoss that has it, nice earthy and hot flavor with that nice fruityness

Also got one called "Djabla Filipino hot sauce", also very tasty

@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I hear that, I've had to install some of this stuff, and sometimes my immediate response is "why are you even trying to put this software on a laptop? You're going to kill that thing." Gis, CAD, civil3d, Revit, etc, it's brutal on hardware.

Red states are obsessed with knowing who is potentially pregnant and increasingly making legislation to punish people who appear pregnant and suddenly aren't (ie, no periods, then abortion, then having a period). Some of that includes reporting that information, apps for tracking have already been caught sharing that info.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I would classify this as a combo INFOSEC and "OK boomer" meme, ie, "Lol, you trust _____ with that info? OK boomer"

15 years or so ago I would've classified it as a conspiracy nutjob meme, but that's the state of politics.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

We live in a time that every human being should be practicing infosec and opsec, and that's just fucking depressing.

Fewer people in the US plan to buy EVs this year, study shows ( www.reuters.com )

The number of buyers in the U.S. considering an electric vehicle purchase in 2024 has fallen from a year ago due to a shortage of affordable cars, inadequate charging infrastructure and ignorance about EV benefits, a study by J.D. Power, opens new tab has shown....

A smaller platform? Say, perhaps, a sedan? Like they universally stopped making across all their brands in favor of SUVs and pickups?

Zorsith ,

Hell, there's been deepfakes for a couple years of Obama, Trump, and Biden, stuff like playing games and tier lists (some of them are hilarious)

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I definitely agree, but they were going to happen eventually. I'd rather they be used initially for comedic purposes so people can get used to the concept than have malicious audio/video right out the gate

Plus the whole, "it's in Florida and who wants to drag a kid through that shithole of a state and hear the complaints about the heat?"

Corporate real estate is on a 'cliff edge' as firms race to rethink communal spaces ( www.bbc.com )

As more employees work from home in the hybrid-work era, many companies are finding they need smaller offices. Compared to pre-pandemic floorplans designed to house as many workers as possible, more businesses are looking towards more compact but higher-quality spaces for the future....

Other useful bootable tools are MS DaRT and Hirens Boot Disc (is that still a thing? Haven't used it in a while.)

The drive is also still usable for bulk storage, so a big one is still a great option. I've got it set up on a nice small form factor 256GB usb.

Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says ( www.cbsnews.com )

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

A sinus infection knocked me on my ass Monday for this week. Went to an urgent care for it, first time to a doc in checks notes 6 ish years? Shocked by how easy it was and (with insurance) how... painless, money-wise. About an hour out of my day and $10 for a round of antibiotics and some form of steroid to help me breathe.

It feels weird to be in a position to take time off and just rest. Feel like a zombie and sleep like one too (I think I slept 14 hours or so yesterday)

Well, I can say I've seen that many laptops in one place before, but definitely not in one room (outside of a warehouse and a couple larger buildings). Most I've had in a small place is a couple hundred.

Zorsith ,
@Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Good to know. Definitely agree, mobile device batteries really should be more controlled from a fire safety perspective, Id be surprised if most IT departments even have disposal policies for them, existing policies can also be so convoluted that it's easier to just stuff them in a cabinet and forget they exist).

I've seen laptops and phones sitting on a shelf for a year or two because disposal forms require signatures that are invalidated due to turnover, starting the process over from scratch.

(IANAL) So, technically speaking, signing up for the military means the government literally owns you. Self harm and body modification (even as mild as forgetting sunblock and getting sunburned, unapproved cosmetic surgeries) can be punished, on the grounds of damaging government/military property, making a soldier non-combat-ready.

Transgender activists flood Utah tip line with hoax reports to block bathroom law enforcement ( apnews.com )
