Why the heck was that money still there in the first place? If a company still has assets in Russia, F them.

Treczoks ,

Amazingly smart for an American "football" player.

I'm so sick of every single medical-related question people have online constantly getting spammed with 'talk to your doctor!!!!'

The way people online constantly say 'talk to your doctor' like it's a panacea is a lot like how medieval peasants weren't able to read scripture and they just had to trust their clergy's interpretations...

Treczoks ,

Provided that the advice isn’t harmful,

And that is the key problem: The stupid internet has no idea what will be harmful in a special case and what not.

Treczoks ,

That’s true, but there’s a wide range of things that can be tried before dipping into harmful territory.

Problem is that most people don't know about how far this range goes.

We should be cultivating an environment of critical thinking.

Indeed we should, but keep in mind that when you among people, half of them has an IQ of <100.

If the reaction is to always immediately defer to experts then you get issues of people taking up healthcare resources for the tiniest issues.

People tend to ask medical questions in places like this usually because googling has not helped so far. I think at this stage the problem is far off the beaten track that random information from random strangers is not going to cut it.

Additionally, if you can’t trust people to have a bit of sense when applying remedies, then what makes you think they’ll choose the correct “experts” to listen to?

I cannot make them listen to voices that tell them "go see a doctor". I can only hope that when they see a wall of similar responses a small spark of common sense makes a difference. A determined idiot can still scroll down past all those messages to find the fellow idiot who recommends dewormer to cure cancer and everything.

Treczoks ,

In the version of the Sinners Bible or Wicked Bible from 1631? Would fit the GOP family agenda.

Treczoks ,

Wow. What kind of paint must one drink to get that delusional?

I hope they turn that police department upside down for not noticing that they had a complete basket case running around with a uniform and a gun.

Treczoks ,

That your police system is inept to self-reflect and that there are no real external control factors to curb this kind of behavior is one big chunk of the American police problem.

You will need a change of the whole police system in the US and bring it up to (civilized) world standards. For that, You'll need the right politicians. Voting for better ones on local level could be a start.

Treczoks ,

Exactly the painting my wife and I thought about - simultaneously...

Treczoks ,

Well, if people travel into a foreign country and don't even care about the laws of said country (not in detail, just reading the governmental warnings would have been sufficient), they deserve what happens.

Imagine I would travel to the US and would bring along some Kinder surprise eggs by mistake. Would those governors show mercy to me? I don't think so.

Treczoks ,

Bring along a Kinder surprise egg into the US and see how understanding and friendly the US legal system is to people who made a honest mistake.

Treczoks ,

Keep in mind that legal systems in other countries might actually work differently.

Treczoks ,

It keeps complete morons off the streets and out of reach of firearms.

Because people who completely lack the necessary care and disciplin should not be armed.

Treczoks ,

That's why you should treat guns and ammo with care. Have you never learned to count?

Treczoks ,

The punishment is first and formost for being terminally stupid. It is high time to stop cuddling the idiots. They broke the law, they should serve. Or do you think that law is just a joke?

Treczoks ,

Yep. Americans would shit their pants if they saw 14 year olds drinking beer or wine - legally.

Treczoks ,

So they think they have solved one small side aspect of the whole puzzle.

Not exactly what the title promised.

Treczoks ,

You knever know with those clever buggers!

Treczoks ,

Nope. At least not that way. Latest I've read is that the pharao taxed quite heavily, so people had to earn their own food back by working on public projects. Not really voluntary, but not slavery, either.

Treczoks ,

Getting the stones to the construction site is one thing.

Stacking them up in a pyramd shape, though, is a way bigger problem that still generates debates - and loads of crazy and stupid ideas, too.

Treczoks ,

New NC slogan: "Stay healthy, stay out of NC!"

Treczoks ,

He probably made the publishers use the text version of the so-called "Wicked Bible" from 1631. He would feel right at home with their version of Exodus 20:14.

Treczoks ,

I will die on this hill.

Do it. Leaves more olives for the rest of us.

Treczoks ,

Are they not happy when they got back what they thought was lost? :-)

Treczoks ,

Environmentally, this might not be a bad thing.

Treczoks ,

I never considered professional brawlers (I.e. "American" football players) to be smart.

Treczoks ,

They can't be that smart when they keep playing a "sport" that leaves permanent brain damage in many, if not all professionals.

Chinese police were allowed into Australia to speak with a woman. They breached protocol and escorted her back to China ( www.abc.net.au )

Chinese police hunting international corruption targets were allowed into Australia by the federal police and subsequently escorted a woman back to China for trial, in a major breach of Chinese-Australian police protocols....

Treczoks ,

There must have been some kind of cooperation, Australia has custom offices and border controls at airports and harbours. They won't let her out without looking at her passport, etc.

Treczoks ,

The emergency generator is just there to power absolute emergency equipment: some lights, radio, onboard communication, stuff like that. Not for powering the whole ship. For that there are the main generators, of which that ship has four, and you need several of them running to actually do something.

The emergency generator is something the size of a trucks' engine. The main generators are more like the size of trucks.

Treczoks ,

I think the correct headline should be "AT&T got outed on paying bribes to get two major pieces of legislation passed". You can bet they did not only spend bribes on just two pieces of legislation.

Treczoks ,

"We are all family in this company" -> We don't have non-white relatives.

Treczoks ,

Wow. Terminally stupid. All while you can get immunity from pasteurized milk, just without the risk.

Can those people be put under observation for "suicide risk", please?

Treczoks ,

At least it was a pond without any connection to other bodies of water. There is a Tom Scott video about a canal in the US that is charged with an electric field that zaps any fish coming through in an attempt to block a certain invasive fish species.

Found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3oLeSPINOk

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services ( www.theguardian.com )

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

Treczoks ,

You don't own anything that is not on your own system and/or without any DRM.

Treczoks ,

What the heck are they doing wrong? If they sell an EV for 70k and still make a 130k loss on it, what are they doing to make the production cost 200k in the first place?

Treczoks ,

So the losses are not production losses, but a complete failure in the projection? OK, quite possible.

Treczoks ,

And on top of it, the commute is costing money, too. Either public transport tickets or fuel and wear an tear on car.

I can so much understand my former coworker. He switched jobs because not only did they pay more, but now he has a five minute commute instead of a one hour one.

Treczoks ,

The title is not entirely correct. They don't plant to "introduce" conscription. Germany had conscription from its formation of the Bundeswehr in 1955 until it was put on hiatus in 2011 because people back then thought that Ivan was no longer a problem. So what they think about is not "introducing" but just reactivate it.

The changes will be that while before 2011, conscription was only for men, it is planned to be for both sexes, and military service will no longer the one preferred service (back then, you had to go through quite some hoops if you did not want to serve in the Bundeswehr and do your time in e.g. social services). This time, the military option is just one of several that can be chosen.

As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music?

As an example. I grew up in hip-hop but at a certain point I stopped listening to new people and realised recently that I’d slept on some bangers. Like Kendrick particularly, but even people like Juice WRLD and Xxxtentacion....

Treczoks ,

Aging? At 30? Kid, are you mocking us?

Treczoks ,

Yep. That was nearly 30 years ago...

Treczoks ,

Just add your twenties to OPs thirties, and you are close. Yes, I remember the time before smartphones, internet, and influencers.

Treczoks ,

What would you call Norma Jane.

No idea. Who is she?

Treczoks ,

OK, that name is known. Amazing when you think that she and Queen Elizabeth II are born at about the same time...

Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says ( www.cbsnews.com )

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

Treczoks ,

If your replica the the mistakes of fast food, you won't get far. Have you tried other food options that are not burgers? Because burgers are a perfect example of expensive, but not really good food.

Treczoks ,

Eggs and milk are still OK, pricewise, even if the prices have gone up. When it comes to meat, chicken is cheaper than beef, so there is no need to rely on beans if you don't like it.

The point is that a burger is basically a very bad food item that happens to be expensive, too. Not the best thing to eat in the first place, and from a fast food place even more so.

Treczoks ,

It might sound expensive in comparison to prices here in Europe, but on the other hand, American income levels are much higher, too. So adjusting for that, they are way cheaper than in Europe. And we live, too. While paying e.g about 8-9 USD for a gallon of fuel due to carbon taxes.

Treczoks ,

I have to admit I'm an bit above the median income - but I'm still working my ass of for it. On the other hand I'm the sole provider for the family (my wife is handicapped), and I have two kids in University.

Health insurance is 570€/month IIRC for me, so it is not much different. The employer pays the same amount.

I'm lucky that I don't have to bother with rent, but it was a lot of bloody years without a single bit of luxury to afford that, even here out in the sticks.

People would murder here for such dirt cheap gasoline.

Tax-wise, it is the same here. The rich deduct themselves poor or have any amount of other tricks to avoid taxes, there is nothing to get from the poor, so we in the middle have to provide the mones so the rich can get their subsidies...

I'm lucky that my food budget is a bit higher than that, but even with 200-300 a month I could easily survive with healthy home cooking. I survived on much, much less during my university times.

Treczoks ,

So the disease is already spreading? Yuck.
