Stadia was pretty cool honestly, it just never caught on, and it's game library couldn't compete with other platforms.
It was magical feeling though, just being able to play any game from my library in anything with a screen. Any Chromecast, Chromebook, old PC, phone, tablet, etc. They could all run any game, and you could switch between them at any time if someone else needed the TV or something like that.
It made it easy to imagine a future where you don't worry about how to play a game, or ever spend money on a new console or upgrades, or ever have to delete games so you can wait to download another game. You just think "I want to play this game on this screen" and it works.
Decibels are a logarithmic scale, so it scales exponentially. Because of this, reducing by just ten is actually very significant and would reduce the perceived volume by half, and would reduce the actual sound pressure even more than half.
If a company isn't willing to support steam deck/Linux through an easier support option like proton, I highly doubt they'll be willing to support it with higher effort native ports.
From reading a different article on it, it sounds like there's a new PSN in-game overlay that's needed for multiplayer functionality, and it doesn't work due to some lacking windows components. There's a chance that Valve will be able to add support for it in the future.
I don't think it will, at least not to the extent that some past tech trends like blockchain did. Right now companies are still in the "throw AI at everything and see what works" phase, which will definitely pass. But even if AI never improves from this point I still suspect it will find a permanent place being used for generating spam and porn.
From reading the article, I get the impression that this bill is mostly about them wanting to be able to arrest protesters who wear masks to hide their identity.
The Steam Deck's multitouch screen might be its most underutilised feature. Until recently, I wasn't even sure whether devs could use it for anything more than simple mouse emulation. But I've just started playing "Sky: Children of the Light" on my Deck (which is generally a great experience on Deck, especially on the OLED with...
Most PC games probably won't support multitouch, I'd guess you're most likely to find it in games that have a phone version (or started as a phone game).
I don't know of a good way to identify those games though. My best guess is to look at some of the curated lists of touchscreen friendly games (example 1, example 2) and look for games that are available as a mobile title and would benefit from multitouch support.
Only 1-3% of people lack the ability to visualize images in their head.
Somewhat related, I recently realized I can't really remember the taste of food at all. I can remember the texture of the food, and whether I liked it or not, but not how it actually tastes. For example, I know I like chocolate but I have no desire to eat it most of the time because I can't remember anything about the taste except for the texture. But once I start eating chocolate and have the taste lingering in my mouth, I find myself craving more of it until the taste fades and I forget what it tasted like again.
I'm not really sure if I count as having an inner voice thinker or not. I definitely use an inner voice when composing verbal/written thoughts, and when I'm trying to remember something specific. However trying to pay attention to my inner thought process makes it seem like my thoughts are mostly non-verbal with occasional sporadic words thrown in? It feels like the more relaxed I am the fewer words there are.
Trying to play Elden Ring on the deck and not enjoying it. Anyone have tips on how to improve the experience, it’s my only platform and I want to like the game?
For frame rate, I would recommend the settings presented in this video. The video has chapters, so you can jump straight to the recommended setting section. They include battery saver, recommended (40fps), or prettiest (30fps). The higher fps setting may help with combat, but the game is meant to be hard and very punishing. A lot of the game comes from trial and error, and steadily improving your playing and pattern recognition.
For messages, it's possible a graphical setting might help, but otherwise the deck has a built in magnification tool that may help you. Normally you hold down either the steam button or the ". . ." Button and then press L1 to turn on the magnifier, but if you're using it frequently you can also bind one of the back buttons to magnify. I would also recommend setting some of the back buttons to toggle between potions and drink them, I found that to be very helpful when playing.
To be fair, that's the low power Ally with a pretty significant 20% off sale.
I'm not well educated on the power difference, but a quick google search shows the cheaper Ally gets about 60% the benchmarked performance of the more expensive Ally when plugged in. There's also a significant drop when not plugged in, but less severe (only about a 20% drop in fps). Source
I suppose the real question is how does it compare to a Steam Deck at that price, and if the drop in power is worth the price difference.
That does bring up the question of if the Steam Deck counts as a handheld console or not. Going off the wikipedia descriptions of game consoles and handheld consoles, I think it probably counts.
I don't have a PS personally, but there's an open issue for failure to connect. There's a test build of Chiaki there that might fix it, or you can wait for the full release.
Where did you see that it's immutable? To the best of my knowledge, the regular version of CachyOS is not immutable, and I don't see where it says the handheld version will be any different.
Heroic is great, but this does have a useful place. In addition to epic and gog, this also supports:
Amazon Games Launcher ✔️
Battle.net ✔️
EA App ✔️
Epic Games ✔️
GOG Galaxy ✔️
Humble Games Collection ✔️
IndieGala ✔️
Itch.io ✔️
Legacy Games ✔️
Rockstar Games Launcher ✔️
Ubisoft Connect ✔️
Glyph ✔️
Playstation Plus ✔️
VK Play ✔️
And it makes it easy to make native looking web apps for the following:
Website Shortcut Creator ✔️
Xbox Game Pass ✔️
GeForce Now ✔️
Amazon Luna ✔️
Netflix ✔️
Amazon Prime Video ✔️
Disney+ ✔️
Hulu ✔️
Youtube ✔️
Twitch ✔️
movie-web ✔️
Finally it imports games installed through the different app stores to make them appear like native apps.
The remote play together integration is great too, because that will easily let you play local multiplayer games online regardless of what store they come from. That alone might make it worth using over heroic for party-style games from epic.
Windows is less of a "walled garden", and more like a shared garden where the other gardener is really inconsiderate and will mess up your part of the garden whenever it doesn't align with their vision.

I think Sony just delisted Ghost of Tsushima from all countries where PSN isn't available, even though it's primarily a single player game that won't require PSN.
So Sony is still on their bullshit, even though they conceded over Helldivers.
I'm surprised I haven't heard much about Collabora partnering with Valve before now. From reading their articles about it, it sounds like they're largely responsible for the Deck's update framework and for pressure-vessel which is designed to provide a standard linux container for games to run inside of (think of it like a flatpak but just for steam games).
Some good changes in there. I barely noticed the mura issues outside of a few specific games, but I'm looking forward to seeing how much that's improved. HDMI-CEC features sound great, I'm curious if that will work with all docks or just the official one.
Edit: if you get double inputs from BT controllers, disable the HDMI-CEC features to fix. One of those CEC features is to let your TV remote control your deck, but it seems to cause double inputs for some people.
Yeah, I was looking forward to ZRAM. I know it doesn't usually help performance (I think Cryobyte tries it on all of his game optimization videos and it never makes enough of a difference), but I figure it will still help with running out of memory.
Valve's big advantage here is the same as it was with the steam deck: they can sell at a loss and make it back on software sales.
A lot of the appeal of consoles is a polished experience and that they're generally less expensive up front compared to a comparable power gaming PC. Many consoles are sold at a loss to hit that price point. Valve could actually make cheap gaming PCs that can compete in price and offer a smooth user experience.
