Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....
We do. Because it's the only streaming app that has a very large catalogue of local shows and non western shows that is available in our country.
Also we (my family) pay because it's our choice and nothing you say will change that.
That said.
I pirate shows from Amazon, Disney, hbo, Hulu, paramount, etc. Simply because I chose Netflix to pay because they were the first to not snub our country and offered their services and I choose to not pay for other platforms, because it's expensive to do so.
Why not use a rake? It exercises you and doesn't pollute. Plus it can make you laugh if you see someone walk into it and gets slapped cartoon style in the face.
I also pay for premium and during the time that I was testing out the free spotify to judge if I'm gonna subscribe.. I also used musixmatch for the lyrics.
My opinion is opposite yours. I find the lyrics being a paid service as justifiable. Since spotify is also paying for the service of having these lyrics available. And also they may use it to entice those who are in the fence.

Eternity was great, but it's likely abandoned now. I switched to voyager. And this is a nice clean app. No complaints from me.
Worth noting that I tried all the available apps from the lemmy app list. And I've worked them down to 3 liftoff, eternity and voyager. Two of these are abandoned now.
Last tim I tried Summit, was months ago but to tell you the truth. It was one of my favorites! it's definietly better than thunder and boost. One app that i can compare it with is Eternity and Connect. The reason why it did not reside in my top three is because of my preference, there is a feel to an app that i am looking for, I really cannot describe it, I did not feel it with summit, but Eternity had it. But technically speaking. Summit is one of the very good apps for Lemmy, you will not regret it if you choose to use it.
to be frank, Voyager is the least of my three. Eternity did have all i was looking for, unfortunately it seems that it has been abandoned.

social media corporations can be made liable under the law, well how about here in Lemmy, where the instance owner may not even know that companies are creating bots and posting discrete advertisements, or hiring trolls/shills to advertise for them?
also remember the ineeeedit sub? they initially nuked it due to companies using it to secretly sell products then reddit realized they themselves can do it.
I slept 4 am during one weekend because we had celebration, it's been 5 days now and i'm still feeling the lack of sleep and catching up.
i'm not that out of shape tbh, i use stairs daily on my 5th floor work office without needing to catch my breath, so i'm pretty sure ive got normal cardio and muscle condition. but the sleep, damn i feel the need to really catch up.
For me it’s gotta be something from ARTE (the French/German culture television channel). Either it’s the one about Chodorowskis weird Dune project or the three-part series about the history of racism. Both were extremely well-made documentaries.
The seats are assigned. People have been standing in line for 15 minutes now. Why on earth would anyone want to stand there, when they could just sit and wait until the line clears?...
Can’t contact people in one platform if they’re not on it. Older family members are using messenger by default. Texting and calling outside Facebook is not an option if they are out of the country (costs). Who uses email outside of corporate communications?
Besides messages and video calling is free on Facebook messenger, subsidized by the Telcos in my country.
I use what the majority uses. There’s no reason to use something if no one’s there to talk to.
This is correct. Security is managing risk to a tolerable level. Not eliminating it entirely. Unless you want to live by yourself cut off from the world. People who have black and white views on security are weird.

I just visited a few minutes ago. There is literally only a handful of post and the newest one is 6 hours old.
There is a post by the owner saying that he will remove the “all” feed vs pivot to having a dedicated Tab for influencers. As if influencers will be attracted to an empty platform.
So I made a comment on worldnews criticizing Chinese activity in the south china sea and apparently got banned for it by the automod. This happen to anyone else? Is this Lemmy’s version of the need help post and the shape of things to come?...
The problem is some people are gullible. Yeah we’ll I know it’s their problem. But I can’t help to have some concern for my fellows in the internet. Though I also recognize their freedom to choose for themselves. It’s truly a conundrum. Where does concern stop and overstepping start eh?
So I’ve realized that in conversations I’ll use traditional terms for men as general terms for all genders, both singularly and for groups. I always mean it well, but I’ve been thinking that it’s not as inclusive to women/trans people....
Post food in food porn. Gets ridiculed because my food is an abomination and should not be called by the foods name. See others post butchered regional food that i definitely know the locals will not recognize as that food. That post gets praised for putting an effort. WTF?
What I expected was food appreciation no matter how it looks or how it strays from the traditional recipe. But what I got was someone telling me that what I posted was not a traditional food yet I’m seeing other non tradional food getting praised.
I simply want food appreciation not food gatekeeping.
I browse All and block any subs or users that are toxic. After a month. My All feed is enjoyable and I get the benefit of not missing any new subs or content that pops up.
I would really rather that these were actual examples, and not conspiracy theories. We all have our own unsubstantiated ideas about what shadowy no-gooders are doing, but I’d rather hear about things that are actually happening.

I notice Indians speaking English tend to speak very fast. Are the Indian languages simply spoken faster?
Do they just speak faster? Do the Indian words/pronunciation flow better/faster than English does? And they are simply trying to match the cadence?
