Ghe point is that the automatic process tends to be very reliable and instantaneous while hand counts can be used as an auditing process. So machines that are easily auditable and have an inherent paper trail because thenvotes are on actual paper ballots are the best combination of steps for voting.

Auditable machines make ballot stuffing impossible.

Trump Demands Biden Take a Drug Test Before Debating and Claims the President Was ‘High as a Kite’ During the State of the Union ( www.mediaite.com )

“I just wanna debate this guy, but you know– and I’m gonna demand a drug test too, by the way,” Trump said as the audience cheered. “I am. No, I really am. I don’t want him coming in like the State of the Union. He was high as a kite.”

The logo everyone uses to check if something is recyclable is actually a three part reminder: Reduce > Reuse > Recycle.

https://midwest.social/pictrs/image/db9da364-0cdf-40f3-b6c2-11de7f570659.png

That is why some bubble packaging has the logo but a reminder to reuse, since it can't be recycled.

As a society we have skipped completely over the reduce and reuse because of the recycling myth. It isn't a myth that plastic can be recycled, but that it rarely if ever is because only limited types and in specific conditions are ever cost effective.

A chicken trade group to which Mar-Jac belongs says it has “zero tolerance” for employing minors

Since they have zero tolerance for that. Car-Jac will be kicked out of the trade group right?

Right?

Small caliber low power bullets can be deadly or cause minor wounds depending on whether they hit anything important.

I'm still surprised a baby survived multiple, since they have a lot less important parts like major muscles.

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads ( www.techradar.com )

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

Israeli army appears to be using Gaza hospital, school as bases, Washington Post reports ( www.haaretz.com )

Israeli soldiers appear to be using the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in the Gaza Strip as a br for military operations, and, since March, also a school in the village of Juhor ad Dik, which is located about one kilometer from the border with Israel and was destroyed in the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip, indicated...

Yeah, no. Shilling for the IDF is a bad look.

They bombed the hospitals and are denying health care while occupying the health care facilities. So instead of "hiding behind patients" bullshit, it is denying the ability to treat patients.

Not being exactly the same is not as important as the fact that they are running military operations from a hospital.

snooggums ,
@snooggums@midwest.social avatar

It doesn’t matter if its a bad look, it gives the apologists ammunition to undermine all of the valid and critical war crime reporting.

Any criticism gives apologists ammunition because they twist everything and lie. What stupid fucking reason not to call bad actors out on their bullshit.

You are being an apologist for the IDF right now.

In addition to the intentional actions, there is a general trend for people who are alike live in clise proximity and school attendance is based on residential location. This happens both by people (in general) wanting to be near similar people and farther from people that aren't similar both in physical and economic statuses.

The intentional decisons on school boundaries, achool choice, and other intentional segregation is easier with that as a base trend.

snooggums ,
@snooggums@midwest.social avatar

This isn't inherently bad.

Some web pages are extraneous, fedundant, or only relevant for a limited period of time. A sign up page for a concert doesn't need to exist permanently. Consolidating a large website down to fewer pages that are accessible for everyone is a good thing.

Archiving services that retain web pages that deserve saving are how we should retain that history of the web, but the actual creators don't necessarily need to indefinitely maintain a web page that becomes obsolete.

Yes, a lot is lost that could have just continued to exist and archiving is good, but getting rid of clutter is not a bad thing.

15% is a pretty low bar in a winner take all election, and being able to possibly win seems like a reasonable standard if the goal is to have a real debate. In that case I would include the top 5 polling candidates, no matter how low their percentage is. That way there is a chance for sokething to be important other than the talking points of the two major parties.

I don't think it would be better, but then again the 'debates' are pointless any as they are just another place to spout campain slogans, and no actual debate occurs.

Top left is going to be first, bottom right is last. Since bottom left is pretty close in structure to bottom right, I'm going with top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.

That fits the reading pattern of western cultures.

That assumes they are paying perclick, and you are exchanging your time for their cost. If it makes you happy because it pays for the site, go for it, but you are probably costing the ad buyers a tiny fraction of a penny per click.

The Icebergs- Frederic Edwin Church, oil on canvas (1861) ( lemmy.world )

Shortly before the first exhibition, the American Civil War began. Church decided to call the painting The North, a title with a double meaning: a picture of the Arctic and a patriotic reference to the northern Union. Sounds like the "knights of the KKK" might have come from the southern chivalry thing.
