Maybe he knew none of the information could harm him if someone got hold of it?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I mean you're still people with emotional processes who understand social queues. Not like you're robots who can't process these things.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Well no because some people early in their transition cycle might have their gender confused by someone who doesn't know, whereas no one can accidentally go "oh shit sorry I didn't know you were black?".

As long as the person is polite and apologetic without being patronising I think it's okay.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Or saying the correct pronoun in a patronising way.

Fair point

Curious as to what the scientific explanation of why this is bad is?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I feel like UFO would make more sense for laptop due to it being portable, but I get it is because the desktop is Alienware

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Nah desktop mothership, server star command and laptop UFO.

mac ,

Didn't the Bible state that suicide is grounds for not getting into heaven?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

They definitely considered it a sin though? Even if not grounds for not getting into heaven due to it not existing to their knowledge.

Windows: Ad Ridden

macOS: Not Enough Freedom Apparently

Linux: Community Arguments

Every OS has issues.

mac OP ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

It varies for me, sometimes I get sick of the dark and sometimes I need near complete darkness. It really depends on my mood and what's going on.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I found this one to be the most accurate, with both times I took it providing fairly accurate results I agreed with for the most part. It also has nice artwork and descriptions. It's based on Myers Brigg's system.

If they switched over to this method instead of the current I would argue an adblocker wouldn't even improve the experience, the problem is that it interrupts my actual content in the middle of the video.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I've not really used it except for the SLS because it's streamed exclusively there. No major issues except one time long videos (sls streams can last 6 hours) would take a lifetime to load.

Dear @firefox : Please stop saving images as webp when I drag them out of the browser. Forever stop that. Even if they are webp originally, just give me a setting to auto-convert them to JPEG. When I get a webp file the first thing I have to do is convert it manually if I'm going to do anything with it.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Just screenshot instead of download and convert.

Mint is just green Ubuntu.

mac ,

I liked the feel of Pop_OS!, the setup and configuration are great, but damned it was unappealing looks wise for me.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I feel like that just defeats the purpose of it though, in that case just install Debian.

Yeah I am interested in Cosmic DE.

As a Linux user who moved to Mac, it's not even remotely dumb.

mac , (edited )
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Use Opencore. Apple stopping support for older devices makes logical sense, technology progresses, maintaining legacy devices can become tedious and leaves the team with less time to focus on their current devices and versions.

Opencore allows you to update to the latest version of macOS even if not supported. However be aware that it isn't Apple certified but an open source project so your mileage may vary.

For your final point the Mac's I have used have been incredibly capable machines that I've been able to configure endlessly and run a large variety of languages and tools without many issues. They have sane defaults, are configurable, powerful and they run smoothly.

Perhaps rather than saying it's stupid, you can just say "it's not for me" as I stated I've been a long term Linux user, installing everything from Arch to Void, I even did a brief stint using LFS, I enjoy Linux however I prefer macOS, but I don't go around saying I hate Linux because I don't there is nothing wrong with it, i just prefer the way macOS works and that is a preference.

Likely macOS is just not the correct choice for you.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I think Arch is a good distro to learn for new users who are interested in tech, it gives an amazing example of good documentation and teaches you a lot about how UNIX-Like filesystems work.

That being said for non-technical users with zero interest, my main recommendations are Mint if you are coming from or prefer Windows and Elementary if you’re coming from or prefer Mac.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I recommend not using the installer if you want to learn how Linux works well.

Anyone able to help with my website being slow to certain sections? ( maclong.deno.dev )

I have a Deno Fresh app, it runs fine for the most part but there is an issue on load in a browser that hasn’t cached anything, clicking the about button doesn’t work on the first click but does on the second if you click another in between....

mac OP ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I looked at the waterfall and I realised I had some design images in there at 2500+ resolution that were taking 5s to load and that was interfering with the loading of the JS.

Thanks, I’ll make sure to check this tab first before posting next time.

Programming languages shouldn’t be monetised

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What are some good use cases for Julia, I really like the language just haven’t found a user for it yet.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Last I checked flutter struggled with SEO, how’s that looking now?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I think work on some small examples for now until you’re sure it’s a viable option.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What makes a language a “logic programming language” aren’t all language logic based?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

It seems to be incredibly concise, I wonder what kind of use cases this language has.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

How likely is it to use one for more standard programming e.g. something where python, JavaScript, C or something would normally be used?
