Lot of us don't have to be businesmen. We can just get hired and delegate the networking to our bosses.

I swear to god, if the aliens flew by and nuked half of the globe, you fuckers would rebuild society and mass media for the sole purpose of blaming capitalism.

I HATE to put on a tinfoil hat, but this is the best thing that could have happened to the ruling party. They are already in the middle of dismantling the media and justice. This will accelerate the process.

I wouldn't say he's a fascist. He only ever presents what the majority of the voters wants to hear.

Every time the party needs a new demographic on board, he either changes the rethoric, or, if it's a taboo topic, allies himselves with people not afraid of breaking that taboo.

Nobody is going to upgrade the grid, if there is no prospect of increased demand.

I've noticed that media tend to bitch equally about both surplus and shortage of certain commodities. Expensive power? Horrible! Cheap power? Catastrophe! That way the world seems even more depressing than it really is.

I still have this, but suspect it's bricked after I've pressed the "do not press" button on the side. (i'm a filthy button pusher) If anybody has some firmware dumps or at least documentation, I'd appreciate it.

Never managed to use the brainwaves, but it was sensitive to the facial muscle movement. Good enough to play pong.

One would think that polish is all jokes and laughs, but the course on duolingo is just "The boy is eating the bread", or "The woman is drinking the milk"

No lagun or bober in sight.

Pretty amazing... that apple allows access to the sensors, and provides an option to mirror the screen over HDMI! Given how touchy feely they were about openning the NFC stack, this is truly unbelievable.

Why are people still talking about the block feature? You can't block people on decentralized platforms. Period.

If the only way to a revolution is making lives more miserable, is the revolution even worthy? Something, something, accelerationism...

Luckily, the patch won't install for me, because the default size of the recovery partition is too low.

I'm confused by this revelation. What did everybody think the box was?

deafboy ,
@deafboy@lemmy.world avatar

The best way to do on-device AI would still be a standard SoC. We tend to forget that these mass produced mobile SoCs are modern miracles for the price, despite the crapy software and firmware support from the vendors.

No small startup is going to revolutionize this space unless some kind of new physics is discovered.

What we call intelligence is largely a genetic trait. Otherwise I'd be able to have this conversation with my dog.

I think the main point is, if the genetic predisposition to what we call intelligence does not positively affect the reproduction rate, the process of evolution could phase it out at any time. The "goal" of evolution is adaptation in order to reproduce. The intelligence is not THE strategy to adapt, its A strategy. It could be replaced by something else, like faster reproduction rate, or the ability to survive in harsh environment without a need for clothes, housing, and medicine.

Well, the world is your oyster... Can't wait for yout chief automated officer.

edit: There was a similar hype back in the blockchain era, where people were trying to build decentralized organizations by making all the shareholders directly vote on every decision. Let's just say this model wasn't especially successful except for very rare circumstances.

That's a common misconception, but you are under no obligation to sacrifice your life for anyone without a prior consent.

If an organization tries to control your body or demands you to sacrifice your life, it's a dangerous cult. Run.

When the train can park next to my house so that my grandma on a wheelchair can get in, or get me to a KFC in the middle of the night, or move a random piece of furniture, I’m in.

A nice bike lane infrastructure would be a blast too, for when you don’t need to move a cargo.

Both are must for large cities, but unrealistic pretty much everywhere else.

    deafboy ,
    @deafboy@lemmy.world avatar

As for KFC deliveries. That doesn’t involve your own personal car so that doesn’t make any sense.

I used to be a city dweller, like you. But now, in bumfuck nowhere, we deliver our own food.

    What’s the excuse then?

Ukraine falling means the war moves on to other countries. Russia can’t afford to not have a foreign enemy at this point. If it runs out of enemies, it implodes. By sacrificing ukraine, we get nothing in return.

The start menu behaves the same way on 10, and server 2016, 2019. I usually have to try several times before the start menu even opens. It’s a pain to work with.

My experience has been opposite. Ubuntu just works. On windows, you have to always fuck around with some 3rd party drivers, and using wierd hacks to even use unsigned drivers at all, be it a RTL-SDR, Android in debug mode, or a USB attached bitcoin miner…

The logitech wireless mouse works instantly on Ubuntu based distros. On windows, it has to install the driver, causing a sizable delay before it’s usable.

I thought I was going to see how to repair the pressure washer. There’s no better feeling than taking something broken or incomplete and making it right. Watching someone else do it is the close second.

But the guy just said “I did it” “And you can too!”. The internet equivalent of patting each others back. Meanwhile I still have no idea what was really wrong with it, and how it was fixed. Nothing of value was transmitted, except maybe a vague form of a feeling.

Reminder: crypto isn’t solarpunk. It’s cyberpunk.

Listening to a recent episode of the Solarpunk Presents podcast reminded me the importance of consistently calling out cryptocurrency as a wasteful scam. The podcast hosts fail to do that, and because bad actors will continue to try to push crypto, we must condemn it with equal persistence....

One could argue that narcan has never been used for legitimate purposes by any significant number of people. It’s used primarily by criminals.

I hope we both agree that it’s a good thing and the criminals should be able to obtain it.

Denying goods and services to minorities just because a majority has no use for it is simply wrong.

Demonstrations against Orbán’s increasingly autocratic 14-year rule were sparked by Péter Magyar, a lawyer and former associate of the prime minister who recently released an audio recording exposing corruption in the ruling Fidesz party.

It breaks my hearth every time I see people protesting for the wrong reasons. Regresivists should be rejected based on their openly proclaimed ideology. Not because someone took a bribe and his buddy tried to cover it up.

The law-abiding extremists are what truly scares me.

Ukraine packed a Cessna-style plane with explosives, added remote controls and kamikaze’d it into a Russian drone factory 600 miles away ( www.forbes.com )

In a sharp escalation of its drone campaign targeting strategic industries deep inside Russia, Ukraine seems to have fitted Cessna-style light planes with remote controls, packed them with explosives and flown at least one of them more than 600 miles to strike a Russian factory in Yelabuga, 550 miles east of Moscow....
