Ya know...I didn't think about it until now, but it's kinda wild that the BlueSky bridge was REQUIRED to be "opt-in" by a massive amount of Fedi which just runs like a normal instance runs.

However, we currently have the Momostr.pink relay that bridges to Nostr with no such "opt-in" ridiculousness and Nostr doesn't even have "deletes" at all. You post something, it's there. No going back.

I guess the....6 instances that block it felt the same as the folks that hated on the BlueSky bridge but they decided to use the actual tool they were allotted in every such case, the BLOCK button....

So, why is a Nostr, no delete, opt out bridge, more admissible than a BlueSky, normal deletes, opt out bridge?🤨

I am now more confused than ever about the mindsets of people here.

I genuinely want to know if there's a reason one should be allowed and not the other, if there is one...😬

@WorMP3 I have 3,000+ posts there. That's 1/3-1/4 of my entire Fedi existence. If this post gets seen, MAYBE there will be some outrage, but the fact that they haven't yet and I seem to be one of the earliest "noticers" of this bridge is wild to me.

Lol. Just found a workaround for replies not showing up on followers timelines. Just boost the reply yourself!🤣

Idk why I didn't think of this. I guess some would find it annoying to see I boost my own posts, but I wouldn't have to do it that way if it was shown to my followers in the first place!🤦‍♂️

All in all, I found a temporary solution until the issue is somehow worked around down the line...🤷‍♂️

@fell no, this is a personal experience. I have several alts across several instances and they all just follow my account here. The past few days I've been testing it and not a single reply shows up on those timelines if I don't boost it myself and replies are always on. I checked.🤷‍♂️it's either an AP limitation due to the way AP relies heavily on follows or a mastodon limitation but I don't know which at this point.

Phew! It’s been quite a few days, Bridgy Fed is up to almost 2500 bridged accounts total. Thanks again for all of your interest! I’ve been in a constant state of whiplash, back and forth between hearing “this is so cool!” and “it’s broken in these 10 different ways.”

I love that you all are enjoying it! And it absolutely is broken in all of those ways, and more. I’m sorry. I’d planned on a bit more time to iron out bugs first, but c’est la vie. Testing in production! 🤷

I’m seeing most of the problems break down into four broad buckets, which I’m tackling in this order:

Honestly, is this what we're going to keep doing to "disprove" AI's usefulness? Throw ridiculous tasks that we should know it can't complete effectively and then going "LOOK AT HOW BAD IT IS!!"??

It's really not a good look tbh. Just makes you look foolish to use the AI in this way. Obviously it was going to get something so ridiculously complicated and nuanced wrong in multiple ways. It's not MEANT to do these types of memey generations.🤦‍♂️

😳I just had a WEIRD as hell experience!

So I saw a post boosted to my timeline from someone who claimed to be a writer. So I googled their name cause I wanted to see their credits. Ended up seeing their BlueSky profile in the list of results, clicked on it...and my "dead" BlueSky account is blocked by them there and I'm not blocked here on my MUCH more active account..

Do people actually go out of their way to block users that don't even interact with them there? Seems kinda odd.😬

@dreamos82 haha. I find that usually I do get engagement. That's the thing. I guess I feel spoiled🤣. I've been here for 9 months and have almost 900 followers. That's like 3 a day average and that's wild to me and I feel so blessed. So overall, we have very different experiences as you might imagine.

However, with some specific ideologies I have about Fedi, I get nothing. Like I'm just WILD to think such things. So...🤷‍♂️hence where the idea for the post originally came from.

I really hope we can get some good people from Threads to move over before Meta starts to do even more untrustworthy things.

Besides the absolutely absurdly move of following and pushing a fake"Fediverse" account that makes people think Fediverse is a single entity or organization, they've already started discussions about expansions to AP to allow platforms to support ads and other shitty ways of monetization.

Fedi needs to make money to survive, I know that. I am behind that, but ads are the shadiest of all the monetization methods because of tracking. Nobody wants to be tracked no matter how "innocent" their activities are.

They've been REALLY quiet since activating AP on their end in a seemingly bad faith move to make the Fediverse seem "useless and pointless to use" by forcing users to educate themselves on the Fediverse if they even know it exists while also making the option to turn it on obscenely hard to locate from normal use.

All in all, I'm VERY skeptical of Meta's intentions and don't really think they'll end up fully federating in the end becuase "why enable a feature that a wide number of our users think is a useless feature?". I feel right now is as far as they're gonna go with it, maybe worldwide, but still one way because that benefits them, not us, and they won't push a feature that people think is useless.

Obviously this is intentional bad faith tactics, but they still have time to prove me wrong and I really hope they do. I really really hope one day we get full federation, but I would be very delusional to have high hopes that such a thing will ever occur given this week's revelations.🤦‍♂️

Fediverse isn't a single entity or organization as you know. Also, the @Fediverse account is posting false info about Fediverse like telling users that ask about threads integration that it's some sort of "bridge" and that their accounts can't turn it on because their country doesn't support basic internet infrastructure....instead of the actual truth that they're integrating AP directly, no bridge involved and the only reason anyone on threads can't turn it on is because Meta specifically doesn't allow them too yet, nothing about ANY countries infrastructure.

The engineer's alone can't be trusted, much less the executives...😳I don't see how it benefits anyone to follow an account like that and thats just the tip of the iceberg to all the other issues I've stated.

The fact that there's no plans for moderation expansion is quite depressing.

I feel terrible for the Mastodon admins that feel they are stuck with this project and have to do "manual" moderation for thousands of users across 23,000 instances and hundreds of thousands of posts a day....🤦‍♂️

Ugh. I wish Fedi wasn't so reliant on domains....

Back when my naive self started Fedi, I went with the most known software (mastodon). But after months of dev incompetence, it's obviously not where I want to be, but I like my domain....

I guess I'm basically stuck with all these bad UI updates and no moderation features....😬🤦‍♂️

@rolle @shanie Akkoma is okay I hear. I haven't used it personally, but I hear good things. Personally, I enjoy Sharkey. They use the Mastodon API so in theory should be compatible with mastodon apps. However, that feature is currently broken and they're rewriting the entire feature so I'm awaiting that before I switch. But they have automated moderation. I shouldn't risk CSAM on my instance just because I didn't SEE it personally.

I'd prefer not to have to see gross stuff to not have them on my instance. Which is where the disagreement lies I guess. Some folks keep saying "if you can't reasonably see it, then you can't reasonably, legally be expected to moderate it", however, I think that's pretty debatable and still not really on my morality scale..😬

@rolle @shanie oh, I'm on a single user instance and don't allow registrations. For that reason, I rely on relays for a ton of stuff on my instance, hence the "no control" situation. If something comes in from a new instance on the relay and I don't see it, I can't moderate it. If I don't have relays, I have a bad experience. It's all little nuances that are just extremely personal I guess.

And it's not a mastodon front end. It looks like Misskey/Sharkey on the web app but is supposed to work with mastodon third party apps like icecubes, Mona, mammoth etc. I barely use the web front end of mastodon. My experience is through ice cubes and Mona and at this point if I don't use those, I probably will be here a LOT less due to features I'm spoiled by...😳😬
