@moonchild @pkhuong @pervognsen i have a general theory that people that conclude they can use a memory order that is not acq/rel or seq_cst are smarter than me but more foolish

doing a big renovation/ addition project on a 90yo house. many unknowns, of both rumsfeld types. allow me to share some beliefs i have had, sequentially, over the course of 3 weeks:

  1. this house is directly plumbed to the sewer mains
  2. 1, but with interstitial 2m^3 concrete settling tank. adjacent to foundations (why?). tank was concreted over and never emptied in last 20y at least
  3. omg the tank has a leak at the bottom

  1. is it a septic tank??? is there a network of infiltration pipes?
  2. 2, and sewer line leaves from top of settling tank for overflow
  3. 5, but they just broke the overflow line, so we are definitely off the grid

  1. 6, but that’s ok because the leak is fast enough and the ground just absorbs everything; tank just catches solids
  2. 5, but that pipe was only used if there was a problem; it goes to a previously unknown underground rainwater infiltration well to which the gutters were plumbed (but were broken recently…)
  3. does this mean we were never on the grid?!? do i need to somehow dig a trench and lay a new sewer line and figure out how to hook up to street??

  1. there is another sewer line that leaves from bottom of tank?!

i am here now :) and am 80% sure this is the right line, have to do some tests though
