Yup. Surprised me as well. I've thought of it being an ok enough source, just apply normal media criticism. But Lemmy doesn't have transparency on whose mod decision it was or how to report those which seem to be on false premises or accidentally... Maybe some day.
I usually just lurk and post only if I see a topic which doesn't seem to be posted yet. Seems like eastern police state & oligarchy has been that lately, and I think it's definitely something that is interesting from a communist point of view horrified by human rights abuse. I don't know if they're taboo topics or just happenstance that I saw two of these lately before they hit here.
Not a controversial stance for an European nation but the joint statement is interesting. Could this be a part of a deal for China to flip on Russia. Does China choose to stay with an ideological reactionary ally or move towards collaborations
The headline is a bit misleading. The article elaborates some, for example:
In other remarks, Crosetto said that if Russian troops were to occupy Kyiv, it would "inevitably lead to a clash with other nations, which would not accept Russian tanks on their borders."
European nations have been voicing the need of peace from the beginning, it's just that the negotiating third parties can't get Russia to participate in a dialogue. Which leads to desperate stuff like France asking for China to do their part (desperate because they'd need some unlikely deal incentive to flip).
I was thinking of that situation as well, and I remember there was some foul play around that plan. The gist might have been that the Russian envoy did appear at the location but wouldn't negotiate. Time will tell if we ever find out the truth.
They kinda pretend to play both sides, kinda not. Left hand says peace talks (without action and on Russia's terms), right hand helps Russia with resources.
Modded as misinfo, worth to check the modlog… There were no links to any fake news sites nor information commented, just a realization that apparently all reports of even different cases can’t possibly have any truth to them.
Trump’s lawsuits could be an allegory. There’s so many of them and similarly all of them have to be fake I guess. No fire where there’s smoke
Let’s say we have a basket of apples. The world’s most powerful apples. And they all look rotten and diseased, we know the reasons which make them rotten, it’s peer reviewed and considered a fact.
So then we make a leap of faith. What if despite evvvvvvveeeerrrything, this one apple is actually pure and holy. And only a few know this for sure and they’re not letting anyone else know the proof.
That’s very wonderful but, kinda sketchy at the same time?
It’s not a metaphor relating to those. You can substitute the apple for anything you like, the fruit is not a relevant object. It just carries similar properties. They can be called ‘Notexistilandia’, ‘United Territories of Nowhereon’ or ‘Countrystan’. Whatever helps.
You’re very close with Chomsky and people not knowing!
What I mean is that the mystical prophecies of one true holy and pure — despite the evidence, like we’ve discussed, rely much on faith, instead of (and sometimes contrary) to knowledge. And general populations “knowledge”, fooled, propagandized is just that — much closer to faith.
More Chomsky:
I think irrational belief is a dangerous phenomenon, and I try to consciously avoid irrational belief. On the other hand, I certainly recognize that it’s a major phenomenon for people in general, and you can understand why it would be. It does, apparently, provide personal sustenance, but also bonds of association and solidarity and a means for expressing elements of one’s personality that are often very valuable elements. To many people it does that. In my view, there’s nothing wrong with that. My view could be wrong, of course, but my position is that we should not succumb to irrational belief.
Idealistic nationalist supremacy is just a form of religion.
Is this meant to be to some other thread? I don’t think anyone mentioned lynchings but yeah they lynch us, we know, I know. If you create a side against there, the side is the black lynching despicable settler overseer side.

And during the prohibition, black market flourished. The business will always be there. The question is do you support organized crime or do you support taxing to cover harm reduction and safety for people (buying from non-criminal sources, tested product etc)
Currently your stance is to provide money for organized crime
Didn’t they attack in France/Germany/Spain some time ago? Or are they exempt from being the spooky West. The use of the term seems to vary wildly so it’s tough to figure what it is used for, maybe the world minus Africa and Asia usually 🤔
Thanks for checking. Which countries did you find out then?
Got these examples pulled which does include France still. Don’t know about the accuracy
Paris attacks (November 2015): Coordinated attacks across various locations in Paris, France, including the Bataclan theater, resulting in 130 deaths and hundreds injured.
Brussels bombings (March 2016): Bombings at Brussels Airport and a metro station in Brussels, Belgium, resulting in 32 deaths and over 300 injured.
Manchester Arena bombing (May 2017): A suicide bombing at a concert venue in Manchester, UK, resulting in 22 deaths, including children, and dozens injured.
London Bridge attack (June 2017): A vehicle and knife attack on London Bridge and Borough Market in London, UK, resulting in 8 deaths and dozens injured.
How west we talking about? Europe has an existential self-interest, USA has a capitalist military industry profit self-interest. Even going further to the west, China’s involvement serves self-interest.
There’s also a ratio of non-nazi civilians which are on the razing path of the bigger fascist country. Europe doesn’t seem to have alternative avenues than to attempt to block it at all costs.
Which attack was that? Couldn’t pinpoint by searching. Anyway, instead of hypothetical dwelling, time machines are not yet functional so the solutions need to be in the now and the future.
