Didn't Ubisoft layoff 45 people in April, and then 100+ people before last Christmas? Sure that's not Google/Microsoft numbers, but I'm struggling to see how that's not related to the "reducing headcount" here.

They've also had a bunch of games cease production/get quietly cancelled, and if there were contractors working on those instead of full employees, those wouldn't count as "layoffs".

Google doesn't sell your data because they don't need to. They take the data and use something called Real Time Bidding that also skirts GDPR and data protection laws/best practices.

People in this thread are really showing their ass about how little they know about how their data is actually being collected and protected. Sure, Proton isn't 100% private, but to say Proton and Gmail are on the same levels of consumer protection is hilarious.

Benefits how? I feel like gaming is going to become like the startup sector where companies create something to specifically get acquired by a big company.

I play with a couple of friends in the Baltics. I have PSN. There is no PSN in the Baltics. So I guess I can't play with the friends I solely bought this game for.

No because it is not available in their country, and making an account with a region different from your Steam account would have inherent EULA risks.

Newpipe is getting updates on fdroid again and seem like will be getting updates for the foreseeable future as the issue stopping it is solved. ( f-droid.org )

Also on an unrelated note anyway to remove live from your subscribed channels update field ? Some channels are filling it with live so i have to really scroll down to see my video feeds and can't find a setting to switch it off. Newpipe didn't used to add live in your what's new feed of subscribed channels, related pic .

I want to switch to Linux, but I honestly don’t know how/where to even start or the proper way to even ask.

I asked once on a Linux forum when the whole Cortana debacle happened, and I was called a moron or sent a link to “Linux from scratch”…which was definitely above my technical knowledge at the time. I’ve been scared to post on Linux communities ever since lol

The “Halo Effect” has been a known psychological phenomenon since 1907 researched by uh…Wells and someone else who I can’t remember.

I don’t want to rain on your cranky old man parade, but unless you’re 100+ years old I don’t think it was ever just “being a gullible dumbass”, it’s very much a known societal bias that has been leveraged by the advertising industry. Don’t think you’re immune to it just because you think you’re “above it”.

This is so true, and something that really gets ignored in the discussion. I don’t WANT to move to bumbfuck nowhere where I have no roots, I want to stay and give back to the community that raised and nurtured me into the person I am today. Unfortunately I (and a lot of others) have been priced out by home speculators.

How is there a loneliness epidemic in all age groups of our society, and yet no one is asking if one of the factors might be people having to move for education and then work to chase affordability, while getting pushed further and further away from their social networks?

Pretty sure Cleveland isn’t the only place in Ohio, and also I don’t think it’s even the top 3 centres people want to live? I remember a thread on Reddit a long time ago that people would rather live in Cincinnati or Columbus.

Futhermore, unless you actually live or have local knowledge of the area, random zillow postings are useless without context of whether it’s a “good” or “bad” part of town. I could post several “affordable” places in my city, but they’re next to meth dens. The real estate listings make them sound REAL NICE, though.

Jokes aside, I’ve had one AI job interview in the last year, and while the AI was more dynamic than the one mentioned in the article, it was still a weird experience. I’m not really sure what the legalities are around using my likeness and voice to train the AI either, but it made me realize I’m not very comfortable with video interviews that have become the norm during Covid.

I also like that the article points out it can go both ways. If the recruiters are interviewing using AI, there’s also live AI tools that will help the candidate navigate that interview. Soon enough, it’ll just be AI interviewing AI. And isn’t that the world we really want to live in 🤡
