Yeah if only they had their own secular, democratically elected leaders. And maybe those leaders could even decide to nationalize their oil.

What could possibly go wrong for them?

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

I bet watching them in English with Portuguese subtitles would prob be a great way for a kid to learn English on the sly

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Depending on her age of course... But you can find SRT (subtitle) files for literally almost everything, often in dozens of languages. They're super tiny too since it's basically just a txt file

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Rotten Tomatoes will usually say where it's streaming. Or a quick Google search of "(TV show) where streaming" will get you there. At least it used to, Google is shit these days so who knows.

It seems very common among millennials and Gen Z.

US District Judge Mark T. Pittman, an appointee of former President Donald Trump

This is where we share reaping what we sowed with the long term secondary and tertiary damage from electing Donald Trump (and by extension, giving the Federalist Society carte blanche to re-form the judiciary in their hateful, spiteful image). They will continue to happen for decades to come (and will often be blamed on the liberals/progressive currently in power because they'll be the only ones trying to do anything to fix it).

The future's looking bright, guys

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Careful, they might try to steal your home while they're there.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Israeli "settlers" have been stealing land from Palestinian families that have lived there for generations. For decades.

I agree that Jewish people as a whole aren't guilty, but the type that go into other people's homes, on other people's land in other people's countries are the same type that carry AR-15s when marching into a village in the West Bank to say, "this is mine now." Fuck those people.

It's ok to call the Proud Boys shit without damning the entire US population.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Only about ~30% actually voted for Hitler if memory serves.

Not that it makes it ok, but...

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Try living under violent, oppressive, ethno-nationalist, colonialist, apartheid for 80+ years and see what options you and your family might be willing to consider.

Also add in the direct monetary support from Likud and Netanyahu to prop them up as the only viable option.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah the god old the old testament is brutal, and honestly a real piece of shit.

Why would I want to worship a god who openly admits to being controlled by such petty human emotions as jealousy? Fuck that, I've been in shitty relationships before.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

It also teaches you how to treat your slaves.

Could have very easily had said, "slavery is evil, stop doing it," but nope.

Makes you wonder how many fewer people would be Christian nowadays if it was outspokenly anti -slavery. Interesting thought.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

I initially made the same mistake... "Surely it was too lovey-dovey to not be Jesus. No way it's that racist, jealous, petty Yahweh..."

But nope, Leviticus

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Where did I judge these people by their nation state? I'm judging them based on their actions.

This behavior is very reminiscent of the behavior of Israeli "settlers" in the West Bank, and I was pointing out that comparison.

I judge the nation of Israel, which is democratic with mandatory conscription (i.e. brainwashing every Israeli adult into believing Palestinians are literally subhuman) for creating these people. But in a democratic system, the people aren't entirely blameless.

And no it's not the same as Hitler, he was (barely) elected and then seized power and did away with the democracy, so it's not like the German people could have just voted him out (not that they would have).

We (humans) have already settled this anyway. Read The Banality of Evil to understand why the German people are absolutely not blameless, and it's perfectly acceptable to criticize them as individuals.

@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Meh, this is just the free market in action. Now after decades of "collateral damage," the market can correct itself. People will stop using the offending brand(s) because everyone needs to be an expert on literally everything or else they too can become collateral damage while the market "corrects." It's their own fault really.

And in this case, customers will stop using companies and services that use RoundUp, because again, they need to know everything including what chemicals that the contractor their town hired uses in the public park. And then lobby them to switch to a (likely more expensive) alternative.

Come on, that's just capitalism, guys smh

[Solved] Tumbleweed update killed my gaming

Has anyone else had this problem? I updated my openSuse Tumbleweed today (restart required), and now none of my games work. Most are through Steam, so at first I thought it was that. But I have Cyberpunk through GOG launched with Heroic. And even more, Alien Arena has the same problem, so it's not even a proton issue (I did try...

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Any reason to use it over Timeshift? Or same basic concept?

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Why would it being a maintenance problem make it any better at all?

"Don't worry guys, the planes aren't inherently defective, we're just not maintaining them correctly!"

Super comforting.

Do you think this is the first time they've gone to war against Palestine? You might have some history to catch up on.

I'm finally getting the hang of Sekiro

I’ve been playing this game off and on, starting over since it came out. I was a hardcore Bloodborne player, but also played a lot of elden ring and ds3. Sekiro never clicked, I thought it was slick and the action felt incredible but I just couldn’t get past the beginning. Finally I’ve broken through and am having a blast,...

prole , (edited )
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Sekiro is possibly my favorite game of all time, and for sure my favorite From Software game. I can't even describe how much I love this game.

The feeling you get when you finally beat a boss that initially seemed literally impossible (looking at you Sword Saint Isshin) is incomparable. Just the biggest dopamine rush ever.

And it's like riding a bike. Once you get it, that muscle memory stays. I went a year or so without playing it, and within 5 or 10 minutes I was right back where I was.

Truly a gaming masterpiece. Enjoy it. Also, if you find yourself getting stuck on a boss and you find yourself getting into a loop of doing the wrong thing over and over, try giving it a rest for a bit and come back with fresh eyes.

I was struggling on the final boss for hours until I rage quit and went to bed. Tried again next morning and literally beat him on my second try.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

but for a boss, it's faster to just learn the fight than spend time farming tokens to try to grind it out with prosthetics.

Eh not always... Not going to spoil anything but there are bosses that were designed for specific tools to be helpful. As in there are unique animations and effects when you use them on them.

I say let them play like they want to play.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

For sure. The game can be beat without prosthetics at all if that's your bag. I personally found it fun to mix it up with some of the mini boss fights and some of the harder "regular fights". I don't think it takes anything away from the satisfaction, because they really aren't that effective even when you max them out.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Oh is it? My immediate thought was that it was Elon being childish and basically saying like, "if I can't say x slur, then I'm going to pretend it's the same as this clinical, scientific term to make a point."

Like that he thinks he's truly made an amazing satirical statement here or something...

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah that's not what they're doing with FFVII. These are three, very large, separate games. I'm nearly 100 hours into Rebirth and I'm probably about halfway through. Remake took me 80+, and the Intergrade was maybe 20 or so.

And not a moment of it has felt wasted or boring to me. Even the card game in Rebirth is incredible. I think they're maybe even making an irl card game out of it.

Maybe it's nostalgia as the original was a massive part of my childhood. But I love what they're doing and where they're going with the new series.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Make sure you've got a spare DVD/Blu-Ray player somewhere that works without needing an internet connection.

Oh, you mean when the discs themselves no longer contain the data.... Yeah...

prole ,

Denver International Airport you say...? I think this eagle was onto something before they had to remove it. He got too close to the truth.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

A male bald eagle that believes it's a female? This is like prime Fox News outrage fuel.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

So you're telling me that they don't adhere to traditional gender norms? Smh

prole , (edited )
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, why would we want Pulitzer Prize winner energy in politics?

I guess if you set it to music and make it rhyme, then whatever you have to say is worthless?

Edit: don't get mad and downvote just because you don't actually know who Kendrick Lamar is.

Edit: can I get some more angry replies for mistakenly reading a comment as sarcasm?

Most people, after our previous president, seem to want to move away from this type of celebrity bullshit in our politics, so I read their comment as sarcasm.

Before you see red and send that angry response, maybe go back and read their comment as sarcasm and tell me it doesn't make sense.

prole , (edited )
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

The way your comment was strangely worded had me read it as sarcasm. As in "can we please have a little more time before our politics turns into vapid rap battles".

Obviously I misread it, and many people have pointed that out. Angrily. But I dunno, go back and read your comment while thinking sarcasm.

Most people don't want that kind of kind of celebrity "discourse" in politics, especially after our previous president.

So I read it as sarcasm. No need to take it personal.

I guess I'll edit my original comment because apparently I've made some folks real mad.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Having not heard their music or ever heard of them, my first thought when seeing the photo was that they were trying to be "ironic" or something.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

The person said "got to run out of stuff to burn someday" which kind of means that everything is destroyed, not just humanity. Without plant life, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but we'd no longer have an atmosphere.

Maybe we'd still have tardigrades or some shit, but I think "devoid of all life" would be pretty accurate in this scenario.

Generally speaking though, you're correct that the planet will survive just fine (rather, it would probably thrive) without humans.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Evacuate to where exactly?

This is not a rhetorical question. Literally, where will you have them evacuate to and how?

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

These people simply believe that the rules do not apply to them... And I guess why would they since reality has proven them correct time and time again.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Lead poisoning

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Super rich assholes don't want to have to see them when they visit one of their several beach houses every year or two.

I'm not even kidding. Don't let any of them tell you it's about birds or sea-life, it's not. That's bullshit.

Which I don't even get because I think they look cool as fuck.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

I'm so fucking tired of seeing this "quality of people" bullshit too. As if they're not all humans who deserve a decent life.

Plus we all know that the "quality" these people refer to is directly related to the amount of melanin in the person's skin.

I've never seen this "quality of people" argument about Scandinavian immigrants. Weird.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Illegal immigrants alone pay over $12 billion in taxes every year despite receiving basically nothing from the state in return.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Why not just say your racist and be done with it... It's so strange that people like you are so willing to put so much time into spewing and defending gross racist bullshit, and then act like you're not a piece of shit racist.

At least be honest. Based on your fervency, you should be proud of it, no? Why are you embarrassed to admit you're a racist?

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Make New York and Chicago more Mexican and Cuban

Lol you've never been to New York City (or any large city), have you?

You do know that they're chock full of people from Mexico and Cuba and literally everywhere else on the planet, right?

Maybe if you weren't so terrified to enter a major city, you'd realize that you're afraid of ghosts and boogeymen created by right wing propaganda to make sure you never actually go to any of these places to see for yourself what a beautiful tapestry of culture they create.

I honestly feel sorry for you.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

I think the Common Core addressed this a bit.

Not sure if that stuff is still in the curriculum because a bunch of dumbass parents who will not hesitate to boast about "how bad they are at math" complained about not understanding their child's homework.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

I'm not a liberal. Learn what words mean. You're confidently arguing about things you are clearly ignorant of

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

You're brain has been so broken by the bullshit "liberal/conservative" dichotomy fed to you by cable news that you don't even know what words mean.

Liberals are center right conservatives. Calling a progressive a liberal is an insult.

I seriously implore you to try to inform yourself as to what these words mean. Calling someone who is borderline socialist a "liberal" immediately betrays your ignorance about politics.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

You seem mad.

prole , (edited )
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

edit: forgot to answer your question: no, I don't remember getting mad or upset. The only angry person in this thread is you, and I think most people are confused by your unprovoked aggression.

I hope everything is ok, bud. It seems like you're having a real tough time. I truly mean that. Your worldview seems to be causing you great distress and I can't imagine how exhausting that must be.

I don't get "upset" by ignorant strangers on the internet. If anything, I just feel sorry for you.

Growing up in an extremely conservative, Evangelical, Fox News household, so I know the exact intentions of ending that sentence with "liberal." Like it's a curse word, and like anyone outside your sad little bubble is going to care (plus, as we've established, you don't even know what the word means).

Spoiler: they don't.

In fact, given your tenuous grasp of these terms, and what you think "liberal" means... Your attempted insult becomes more of a compliment. So thanks!

It's like those people who try to use some variant of "hurr durr you live in your mom's basement" on grown-ass adults who have lived alone for at least a decade... It just doesn't work lol.

It's also a pretty big self-report. You don't need a poly-sci degree to learn this stuff.

prole ,
@prole@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, pointing out something can be insulting does not mean I'm insulted, or angry or upset or.... Like I know you're trying real hard to get that reaction from me, but like I said before I honestly just feel bad for you.

It's not only sad, but very very weird. Why don't you step back for a moment and see how this comment exchange began... What kind of depressing life leads a person to behave the way that you did (and still do).

You are clearly very angry, and it's sad to see that anger so misdirected... Like you don't even have a grasp on the absolute basics of political classifications, yet you're so damned mad at some boogeymen you invented to fit into these fabricated classifications.

I hope you get some help, not only with the misguided anger, but also with your inability to define or understand basic political terms. Especially if you're going to be so outspokenly vitriolic towards strangers about them.

It's a really bad look.

Edit:

I expect nothing more than the same shit, so don't expect me to reply (or honestly, even read) your response to this.

I hope you can get some help, and maybe part of that will be realizing when you're wrong and learning not to double down on stupid.

prole ,
