Good to hear. Hopefully things keep going well.

Congratulations, Maybe you side project could turn into a company. Hope the search goes well. What field?

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Good luck. When I graduated with a degree in computer engineering, recruiters and posts often equated computer and software engineering. Even now, the field I'm in has terminology arguments that I get caught up in; its a very software heavy field, and my focus is hardware/firmware. I'd ask if you want to work on my website, but there's no money in it yet.

So I'm making that website I talked about

The first post in question. I don't know if I'll finish it, but I have started to write it. I even went so far as to get a domain. It wasn't my first choice, but its not bad. So any ideas, features, etc.. are welcome, as is anybody that wants to help with it or advice for making it. I'm not quite ready to give out the name...

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Because I don't do well in open ended groups of people. A bit of anxiety mixed with just not knowing how to start conversations with strangers.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I mean, if I just want a change of scenery, I can just go for a hike or bikeride like I often do. If I'm going to spend money to go somewhere, I'd like to actually want to go.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I'm sure I'm not the only one. I couldn't tell you what I want.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I know, its just $100 to exist somewhere is a bit more than I would want to spend.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I made it there, but didn't end up going do to registration issues.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I'll say walking through to registration was interesting, and when I couldn't register I was more disappointed than I thought I would be, especially because I wasn't all that sure I wanted to go in the first place. I don't think I would have done anything, but just being there was unique.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Just walking up to the hotel and through the lobby was interesting. I was more disappointed than I thought I would have been even though I didn't really plan on going.

It was a nice day out, so I had a nice walk. It would have been nicer if there wasn't an "unruly" passenger on the train ahead of mine causing a 10 min delay.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Spiders are awesome because they eat the annoying bugs, and its really fun to watch them build a web. Its funny you say too many legs because I love it when I'm out hiking and find a millipede. Basement centipedes are fine as they are another annoying bug eater, I don't really come across any large centipedes, but I'd probably steer clear of those.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I sure hope millipedes are non venomous, I like playing with them. I would have to look up to verify, but I think some species excrete something when injured that monkeys use.

Sorry about the spiders for you, I'm cautious around hunting spiders, but no phobia.

something, something, don't frogs eat bugs?

Hmmm, I though everything in that part of the world tries to kill you, or is that just restricted to Australia? The largest near me are the Joro spiders that moved in a few years ago.

18+ Do people really like this type of content? ( yiffit.net )

I don't use Twitch, I've never looked for anything related on Youtube and I don't watch Youtubers of this style (if they exist), but Youtube sometimes recommends me this kind of trash content that I don't understand how there are people who watch it, and less I understand the simps who are lovers of a certain streamer and...

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I also don't understand people who watch, but I mean, people must, otherwise it wouldn't exist as much as I hear it does. I would imagine it has some amount of basis in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasocial_interaction

oh, I forgot about two steps from hell / Thomas Bergersen (he has a lot of stuff under just his name). I’ll tick on E.S. Posthumus, don’t know if they have any movie music, but they certainly have the epic soundtrack style. x-ray dog is another one of the companies that puts out tons of soundtracks.
I’ll have to give those others a listen.

Closing Registrations. Reflecting on viability of continuation of Yiffit

Hello, Unfortunately I am not able to take care of Yiffit as it deserves. Unfortunately, having been blocked by lemmy.ml, Yiffit is not a good instance to explore the lemmyverse because it is restricted. At the same time, I feel like there’s countles off other sites where Yiff can be found in a better way....

l_b_i , (edited )
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I don’t know what it takes to run an instance, but time is a finite resource, and can understand if life takes you to other places and a free website for others falls behind. I can say, that yiffit always seems to be working and to me that is #1. Please don’t take any of my comments or posts about function to mean you aren’t doing enough or there is something more you could do. Lemmy itself still has a 0.x release and lots of bugs/missing features in many aspects.
We not might be a big group here, but it seems to be a pretty good one. I for one don’t miss .ml, and never got the sense they (the developers) were a particularly welcoming bunch. I think even pawb runs off their own fork in case they (.ml) let their views into the code itself. In general blocking from other instances is just something that comes with federation, you will never see everything and the whims of a single admin could cut off large chunks.

I know nothing about sysadmin or moderation, but I’m confident there are others here who do and would help if asked.

Thank you for running yiffit. I have enjoyed my time here, and if it sticks around, I will continue to be here.

Looks like the built in lemmy cross-post link will link to the same community if its been posted before.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

No worries from me, No one can be expected to see and remember everything. I just thought it was interesting lemmy itself kinda calls it out with the cross-post label.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

This is the kind of thing I step back and take a look at myself and go, “yep, that’s what I find interesting”. I don’t know where the style originated, but this reminds me of Coffeezilla’s style and pacing.

General inbound federation question

@Wander is everything working as expected for inbound federation? casual conversations moved from lemmy.world to lemm.ee I don’t see any comments or votes in the lemm.ee community from before yiffit was aware of its existence. I think I’ve seen this other places too, so I don’t know if this is how its supposed to work, or...

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

So I would expect this is related to the inbound queuing discussed on casual conversation, blahaj, and reddthat. Not much is written about the initial sync, but I would think it is a related problem.
My personal tl:dr, because I didn’t read it all or dive into the technical details:
There is only one inbound queue per remote instance, the bigger instances fill the queue up leading to sync problems. This gets worse over large distances (I didn’t really read into why). I guess there was an assumption of more smaller distributed instances than some of the larger ones that popped up. It sounds like a code scaling problem.

This is weird in the most delightful way.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

Does this mean you really can download RAM?

Federation is weird

It often works, but sometimes fails in very quiet ways. pawb.social/post/8422352 and yiffit.net/post/8267386 are the same mealtime video post (Technology connections kettle), but very different comment counts. I usually see it as posts or communities that just stop showing up even though nothing changes. The other day I played...

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I think, but not sure, so long as you are federated with the community you can see comments and posts from everyone, its just the communities hosted on the defederated instance that you can’t see.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

So I just checked from .ml on !furry . I didn’t see any of my posts, but looking at some of the big communities on .world, I can see posts from users of .ml

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I’m just used to the receiving end and know I can see posts from users on instances that have defederated from us, just nothing hosted on the instance itself.

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

I often like his breakdown of movie themes and similar even if I don’t really understand any music theory. Here I really like the technology breakdown that some others get into where they breakdown how the underlying technology was used to create the sounds. Everything about space saving in that era of game design was impressive. The reuse of sprites, cleaver music composition, and using memory in a completely different way

l_b_i ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

From poking around, its a little more complicated than that. I can sometimes see new things, especially if no one is subscribed, but after the initial connection, no more posts are seen.

l_b_i OP ,
@l_b_i@yiffit.net avatar

careful with that in this post. So many of the replies here are from kbin accounts. In fact I’ve never seen so many. When initially making my account here, I did glance at kbin, but I just didn’t like how it presented itself.
