We're talking about companies where a product leak makes international news. There is zero chance Slack employees have access to communications.

Sure, even though Slack itself admits so in their privacy policy.

Have you tried Signal recently? On Android it's very well polished.

In fact I believe it's a shame that not more people use such a beautiful app, regardless of privacy and security implications.

HERE WeGo has traffic data but of course, as in Google Maps, it sources from other users of the same app.

If not many people use HERE, then the data is also not reliable.

the data is out there

Where? GMaps sources this data from each of its users.

Exceptions being obvious things like bathrooms

You arbitrarily decided what is "obvious". For me it's obvious for my right to privacy to be observed all the time.

I don't want my face to be sent to i.e. Amazon just because I am a courier delivering a package to your house.

A German state is ditching Windows and Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions ( www.theregister.com )

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions....

This is the commit that “magically” made it work: src.fedoraproject.org/…/7ce3c53429c16e84bf805299b…

Your post may be more constructive if you specified your distro (Fedora 39)

DDC/CI has been (re-)supported by powerdevil since …kde.org/…/e4a5e5d3e017ef45979933e14e47408bb3a59d… and included in release starting from Plasma 6.0.0

At what age do you think is too old to be living with parents?

Background+rant: I’m in my early to mid-20s and still living at home with my dad. I’m not a NEET and am employed at a normal office job. I enjoy the comfort of my home. I like being with family (and I believe they feel blessed to have their kid at home longer). I like not having to pay rent. However, I also keep feeling some...

“Moving out” in an idealised event that just does not make sense anymore today.

Indeed. I wish your comment was the most visible here.

Signal and Threema can be all about privacy, but they are still companies which can make money only by keeping their service as centralized as possible.

Decentralised messaging like Matrix, XMPP, Jami, have no issue with interoperability.

I use Jami daily. The pro is that it is completely decentralised: it doesn’t need a server to run, all communications are over DHT. The cons is that not all messages are delivered instantly, and both sender and recipient need to be online at the same time.
