indie gamedev is spending 3-5 years working on a game with probably at least a couple other people and then you release it and if youre fairly lucky you gross like 20-80 thousand US dollars which works out to $5000 a person a year before tax. it's a very cool and sustainable industry

justafrog ,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@eniko If you account it properly, you might even manage to keep most of that sweet profit under the taxation threshold!

This is a clear indication of how lucrative it is.

justafrog ,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@eniko Enough money to retire 1/24 of the year for life, surely.

Wait, split that between 5 people, it's 1/80 of the year.

Four point something days a year of financial independence! Maybe 10 if you live modestly.

so apparently the big secret to tasty fries is ... peanut oil. you cook em in peanut oil. or toss them in it and airfry em. that's literally all you need

justafrog ,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@eniko I have tried different fats for fries, and really it makes a difference which one you use.

People really ought to try a bunch of different ones, to find what works best for them.

Rice bran oil, corn oil, sunflower seed oil, canola oil, olive oil, peanut oil, walnut oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, and so on all work, and leave a different taste.

Note they don't all cost the same either, so maybe consider the price a lot when deciding what to fry in.

note that a reduction in reaction speed is probably not (solely) a function of aging because there's been studies that point out that after retirement age reaction speed actually increases*

seems way more likely that working age adults being more stressed, overworked, and ill rested reduces reaction speed to me. meanwhile retirees who have no job and functional UBI won't have nearly as many of those issues

*no i will not cite my sources on this since it was years ago i was looking into it, if you want to find the study i recommend you hit up a search engine (if any functional search engines remain in our AI-tainted present)

justafrog ,

@eniko After working 12+ hours straight, I definitely had issues.

Like, standing in front of my home's door, trying my hardest to use a key to open it.

In a well-rested state, it is absolutely not hard at all.

I'm fairly sure I might simply not have reacted to a sudden thing in traffic on the way home.

Second to that, if I haven't rested well for several days, lots of cognitive tasks are harder, even if on a full day of not work.

Rest is severely underrated.

What good is AI if you don't have a planet to use it on?

Microsoft released its 2024 Sustainability Report on Wednesday, and it's mostly bad news. Last year, Microsoft's emissions went up 29%, and it used 23% more water, primarily due to "new technologies, including generative AI."

It's a platformer with a heartwarming story featuring queer main characters and personal discoveries in classic SMB3 style. You can find trailer, screenshots, and wishlist links here: https://kitsunegames.com/kitsunetails

It's coming out this year and the team and I have been working hard on it for several years now. Most of the team is queer in some form so by boosting you'd not only be making me happy on my birthday, but supporting a bunch of queer creators making queer art as well

yuzu kitsune tails, a purple haired fox girl, picks up samurai armor in a tower that's rapidly filling with lava. she jumps away from the rising lava and sticks her spear in the wall, doing a dashing twirl to get on top of it. she walks off the spear and into a new scene, fighting a ghost fox with armor and spear. it stabs and she jumps over, but is caught by a follow up stab. the ghost fox over extends and its ghostly powers wane, giving yuzu a chance to bop on its head

@eniko Got tired of Logitech and went with Elecom instead.

It's a Japanese domotics/peripherals/gadgets company with really anaemic presence outside of Japan.

Some of their good points are, the buttons don't die anywhere near that fast, they have different sizes for some models, and a lot of their pointing devices have a mirrorred version for lefthanders.

Probably extremely impractical since you're bound to need to mail order the specific model which meets your needs.
