And the FBI confiscated their cellphones and other methods of communication?
The FBI did seize their phones but the crew has received new phones from aid groups along with a Hotspot that was provided awhile ago.
Why the fuck are poor foreign workers being treated like that when we're letting the company almost completely off the hook?
The crew has been stuck on the ship because they are essential to the recovery process. The crew knows how to operate the ship and all of it's machinery. They've been responsible for keeping pumps on board the ship running and ensuring there's no flooding as the clean up goes on.
The real question is now that the ship is back at a berth and in a position where only a skeleton crew is needed why hasn't the US granted any emergency visas to the crew so they can start rotating shore leave?
Mold is actually the biggest concern with the most popular archival format LTO. EMPs aren't that much of a concern. Bit flips and bit rot are your main concerns traditionally when using flash for archival storage. It's recommended if you go the flash route to keep your array hot (ie powered on) and use a file system with data scrubbing capabilities such as ZFS.
The obvious awnser would be VR and AR where the faster the refresh rate is the less likely you are to get motion sick. A display with a refresh rate that high would be displaying a frame every millisecond meaning if the rest of the hardware could keep up a headset using this display would be able to properly display the micro movements your head makes.
It really bugs me there's a sideways full water bottle leaning on the mixer. That's a Yamaha CL5 which MSRPs at 30k not mention the cost of having the show ruined...
I'm pretty sure that spare tire is only there for the joke. With off roading tires that large they are almost definitely bead lock tires which can be ran at very low PSI without risk of the tire departing the rim. On top of that the tread is much thicker meaning punctures have to go deeper before they cause problems and most of the time came be fixed by simple plugs.
Not to mention the logistics of changing a spare on a tire of that size. A bottle jack is completely out of the question and you wouldn't be able to use a farm jack safety with the body that high. Even if you could how are you going to get that wheel onto the studs when it weighs over 300Lb?
I work for the railroad and this is incorrect. The big fight this contract was for actual sick leave. As of right now if I was to get sick and call in I'd potentially lose an entire weeks worth of pay for taking that one day off (our pay system is complicated) and have a mark on my attendance. Most class ones only allow three hits before you are let go. Some take this a step further and make weekends and holidays count as two strikes. Since we work on call 24 hours 6 days a week with no guarantee of actually being home for your day off doing things as simple as scheduling a doctors appointment becomes a nightmare.
What happened in December was congress removed the sick leave portion and made it a separate bill. H.J. Res. 100 passed to block us from striking while the bill for sick leave H.Con.Res.119 failed at the senate.
They are receiving some help from the Seafarer ministry which is who is supplying the crew with food, toiletries, wifi, and even bought the crew new phone to replace the ones seized by the FBI. Ambassadors from the India and Sri Lanka embassies have also visited the crew so I wouldn't be surprised if visas will be granted once the ship is back at a berth.
I'd like to point out for those who aren't in the weeds of silicon architecture, 'embarrassingly parellel' is the a type of computation work flow. It's just named that because the solution was an embarrassingly easy one.
Would the recompiled games effect how ACE works in some games? I'd assume since the machine code is different the exploits used to trick the pointers would be different.
Because proton put themselves into this position by making false advertising claims. Let's not forget this isn't the first time proton has given away the IP of an individual and last time was even worse because proton at the time was directly advertising they kept no IP logs which they had to quietly remove after giving the Swiss feds the IP.
They dont log by default, they log with a warrant, I guess. But still, hello, they are just companies, they don't owe you nothing. You should all use anonymous services wich will close in fee weeks or months as it's illegal to keep nothing
I’m getting tired of the extremely loud ads on that don’t seem to be subject to the old TV broadcasting laws that prevent them from being blasted 10db louder than the actual content. Wondering if there’s stuff out there that would let me take the hdmi stream from my Apple TV or other streaming source, and do ad detection...
I think you are over complicating things. Just get an HDMI audio extractor (HDCP compliant), feed the audio into an audio compressor/limitor, then you can run the audio into your speakers or buy an HDMI audio injector to feed back into your TV.
To be fair, Microsoft only bought and killed off the phone division. The rest of Nokia is still around including their R&D department bell labs. You know the same bell labs that's developed some little know inventions like C and C++, solar panels, the transistor, and UNIX...
Amtrak can pull your own private rail car. Nothing says that car couldn't be the US's navy's armored caboose which may or may not actually have anti air weapons (classified)
In the US pretty much all our ISPs use dynamic IPs by default and charge extra for static IPs. The lease time on the dynamic IP varies dramatically from ISP to ISP.
Except Zolgensma's R&D was funded through the NiH. The only reason why it costs millions per dose is because Novartis bought AveXis for 8.7 billion solely to acquire the rights to Zolgensma.
Novartis isn't the company who are denying it, that would be the insurance company Mosaic’s Health Care Trustees who aren't covering it because it's too expensive as stated in the article.
Insurance companies will do anything possible to get out of paying for specialty tier medications from using 'step therapy' where before they will approve the medication your doctor approved you must first try and fail all the available medications starting from least expensive. Insurance companies typically also charge a presentage on speciality drugs for the copay as a deterrent from being prescribed those medications. Currently the advocacy side of some large disease-focused charities such as the arthritis foundation are trying to get congress to federally ban step therapy and set a cap for specialty tier drug copays like they have for the other drug tiers.
ZFS is amazing but i wish it's support for flash was better. I'm not sure if ZFS will ever be able to fully utilize flash since ZFS was designed around spinning disks and the pitfalls they provide. Maybe at some point F2FS will catch on...

AUSTIN, TX—In the latest round of layoffs for the company’s struggling automotive division, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla fired the entire team behind brakes, sources confirmed Wednesday. “As we continue to rightsize the Tesla workforce, we have come to the decision that stopping the car is no longer a critical...
The worse part is that it's completely possible for tesla to get rid of the brakes and rely solely on the motors for stopping or at least on the vehicles with AC motors. It would be a really stupid idea since braking effort is directly tied to the shaft speed meaning you get less brakes the slower you are moving and you wouldn't be able to brake while fully charged but hey it's still possible.
It's only bad for DC motors to use dynamic brakes (proper name) and even then it's only bad for them when coming to a complete stop. Using DC motors to slow down is perfect fine. AC motors don't suffer the same issues and can utilize dynamic brakes at any speed including to a complete stop
Methamphetamine (Desoxyn) and heroin (Diacetylmorphine) are scheduled II drugs. I don't think they will at least to the same level as Marijuana since it was previously classified as scheduled I (no medical use)
The part about not suing tesla over patent infringement was the true poison pill and why no one took them up on it. Ford has over 79000 patents alone and that's just one auto manufacture.
But it's still going to be fast (and cheaper with wages factored in) to fly while using one of the countless 'last mile transportation' options available when the distance is greater than an EVs range while you can't afford to loose time to charging. The only exceptions I see is those jobs who need tools/supplies on site in which case you are almost definitely taking a fleet vehicle and this whole problem is moop.
Your thesis is fundamentally flawed though because you are taking your situation and extrapolating to the public as a whole. While I'll agree the market for new EVs is stupid right now the used market is far from. I say that writing this from my 22' model 3 I paid 18k for used. And that price wasn't a fluke.
I'd also like to add the last mile transportation I was referring to isn't public transport or some ride share app but the industry of van drivers who specialize in business transport. Companies like PTI or Halcon who specialize in getting you from anywhere to anywhere.
A lot of their shady practices are on their laptop side. For example their ROG laptops support USB PD as their main way of charging however asus forces you to use their own chargers. If you decide to use a third party USB PD charger (of the same wattage or greater mind you) then your laptop will disable the dedicated GPU and limits your fan speed profile to silent which causes your CPU to throttle under heavy load.
The problem with asus was all the engineers who cared went to asrock when they split. For those who don't know, asrock started life as a subsidiary for asus to cover the low end and OEM markets. There used to be a lot of shared engineering between the two companies but there started to be some bad blood between each other as asus was releasing server hardware and asrock was releasing enthusiasts hardware. Ultimately it was decided since neither side wanted to stop stepping on the others toes they would let asrock fully separate from asus as a company and let the market decide things. Ironically that only lasted for three years before the majority stake in asrock was bought up by Pegatron, a company owned partially owned by asus...
That's amazing to hear! I've personally have been left stranded by American when they diverted our flight to a regional airport that was six hours and two mountain passes away from our intended destination due to a blizzard and we were only offered a flight that took off three days later. We weren't offered any hotel or food vouchers and when I tried to get a refund American only offered $50 in miles because "some service was provided"...
Hard to believe that lotus would be the one to give us a stripped down value EV. It would be kinda ironic though since without lotus, tesla wouldn’t have a body for the original roadster that got them where they are today.
