Amazing hazel covered in moss by the Dart river, Huccaby, last week. I like to think it was a deer that was petrified by the piskies, / pixies and then covered in moss.

It’s the time of year when grunting, circling and huffing return to Devon. These mating rituals happen not, as you may think in Plymouth clubland but in gardens and green spaces at night….sound up 🔝 .

The judge’s chair at Dunnabridge pound yesterday, between Two bridges and Dartmeet.
The pound is on the site of a Bronze Age settlement but the walls now are several hundred years old. The shelter was used for shepherds as a shelter from the moorland elements. Probably built here in the 1500s.

Hedgehog antics in my garden last night. European hedgehogs are present in the UK and Europe, although their numbers are dwindling in rural areas. It’s become customary for some people to feed them cat food in Uk gardens.

A hedgehog falls over when it scratches itself.

@MikeH it can be difficult, people cut hatches in plastic boxes tuned upside down. In my case I use a not very good heheh house seen here. It has a small tunnel cats can’t get through.

‘In lovely harmony the wood has put on its green mantle, and summer is on its throne, playing its string-music; the willow, whose harp hung silent when it was withered in winter, now gives forth its melody - Hush! Listen! The world is alive.
