Inspired by a post since deleted, I feel bad for probably coming off judgemental about the poster's taste in the movie that drove him to consider sailing....
First time, it was because I was a kid that couldn't pay for the movies/music/games I wanted. The high seas provided me with a solution for that.
Then I started making money and Netflix streaming came along making it both cheap and convenient. I docked my ship and forgot about my pirate life for a long time. Everything was good, living a quiet life...
But then the corporate greed caught up and ruined everything. Streaming prices became absurd, content got fragmented to way too many services and they fucking started introducing ads.
So here I am, setting sail once again. I didn't need or want this, but they have forced my hand with their infinite greed.
Yeah they're fighting really hard to combat piracy, but at the same time all their decisions are what is actively pushing their customers (back) to piracy.
I've never "bought" digital streaming media for that exact reason, so that happened impacted me personally. I didn't trust them to begin with and I was right in not doing so. But yeah, that's definitely also a shitty move and valid reason to pirate IMO.
*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...
I just bought a 4k 60hz loopthrough usb3 card so I can start saving the media I want from the services I still subscribe to. What software do you use for recording?
I've been trying to setup Tdarr to transcode using my AMD integrated GPU instead of my CPU, but all I'm finding online is people using nvidia cards...well, I don't have one of those, but I have an AMD CPU with integrated gpu, so I wanted to use that, but apparently that's extremely uncommon and I can't find any working...
I actually just got it working, after spending all day yesterday. The speed is magnificent, but the compression rate is absolutely abysmal. When i use the integrated GPU an h264 encoded file end up taking up 5-10% more space when converted to h265, whereas when just use CPU an h264->h265 is around a 45% reduction in size. I have no use for speed if it doesn't reduce file size at all.
Fair enough, I just saw so many using GPUs and how much faster it was and assumed it was the same size-wise with the files. I'm getting ~40fps with my CPU, so it's going to take forever to do all of it.
If someone inadvertently did this because they recently started transcoding their media library (...that would be me...), and didn't think about the seeding torrents, can you do anything to mitigate such bans?
Yes that's what I'm supposed to do from now on...I'm asking what I can do so I'm "un"-blacklisted/banned, if that has happened because of my previous mistake.
My gluetun VPN keeps failing the health check after running for a few hours. I found that some had fixed this by changing the update period to a shorter interval, and this worked for a while for me as well. But for the last 24h or so, it keeps failing after a few hours....
no my subscription is fine, and working on other devices without issues, firewall and internet connection should also be fine. I'll try adding more countries to the compose file and see if that helps.
I'm not very competent with docker, so honestly I think the error is more on my end than theirs. I bet there is some setting I have set incorrectly and I'm just missing it.
I've started setting up my media server and was wondering if I should put my docker containers with sonarr and radarr behind my VPN the same as my qbit?
I'm having some difficulties getting both sonarr and radarr working simultaneously behind my VPN because they default to the same port. I'm not very well versed in docker, so I don't know how to fix the port issue behind the VPN, but I can fix it if they're just separate from the VPN.
I thought so, but I get an error that the port is already used when in try to start sonarr after radarr. I'm only trying to reach them from my local network.
It was at the Securedrop website. How did I end up there ? I read something about Sequoia and encryption and then wanted to see what Securedrop entailed....
It really makes it feel like we’re all just wasting time here on a futile effort trying to get digital privacy. Clearly the steps I’ve taken make absolutely no fucking difference, so it’s not really worth the hassle TBH.
If you’re familiar with coffee grinders, they’re basically using thread to adjust distance between 2 burrs. Even there (mid to upper-mid range ones) can’t guarantee the same grind size on the same setting for different unit of the same model
While the coffee grinder example is true, this is not at all due to tolerances in the thread pitch used to adjust the distance.
This is because of the tolerances on the burrs themselves and the sideways alignment varies too much, and why it's better on more expensive models.
Threads are controlled to a fairly tight ISO standard, which can be done very cheaply because of the simple helix shape and ridiculously large quantities.
Burrs on the other hand are much more complex shapes, in much lower quantities, which is why tight tolerances are expensive on coffee grinder burrs and not on simple thread pitches on standard bolts.
I didn't say anything about variation between two screws of the same pitch
But this is what everyone else is talking about, because that's what matters in this case. The manufacturer knows exactly what type of thread they used, and the variances within that type are really small, so they can easily tell how many mm of vertical movement 1/8 of a turn is with high consistency.
What drew you to the high seas?

Do i need to run sonarr and radarr behind my VPN?

This looks right in my price range for my next upgrade. I want a core xy, I’ve been on bed slingers, so this looks good....
Why do 3D printer manufacturers not get the details right? e.g. rotation indicator on bed levelling wheels ( lemmy.ml )
Building a 3D printer is easy. Getting the details right to build a great 3D printer is hard, as this is where most companies fail. Why?...
What qbittorent + vpn docker image do you use?
docker compose is appreciated
