Hotspot speed issues

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem or knows a fix for it. On my pixel 8 using the hotspot I’m only able to get about 500 Kbps on whichever device I connect to. I’ve tested it on multiple devices and they are all getting the same speed. The phone itself is getting 150-300 mbps download over 5g cell on tmobile...

Maybe try changing the Wi-Fi band (“Wi-Fi Hotspot” -> “Speed and compatibility” menu)? Check also if you get the same slow internet with USB tethering.

That’s one of the annoying parts of the stock OS (unless you can ignore the search bar), it’s an unremovable part of the default Pixel launcher. To get rid of it you’d have to install a 3rd-party launcher, or just install GrapheneOS 👀

Google shows off the Pixel 8a in ad for Fi Wireless ( 9to5google.com )

The ad shows Google’s new mid-range device in blue and off-white color variants, and it’s abundantly clear that it is the Pixel 8a. For one, the device in question has two cameras and a blue color, something the standard Pixel 8 wouldn’t fit. It’s also lacking a microphone near the cameras....

nothing but rumors right now but here they seem to expect something between $500 and $549: www.tomsguide.com/phones/…/google-pixel-8a

Do you still have that issue? I have Pixel Buds A and I haven’t had any problem with my ear buds on GrapheneOS.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer of your hearing aids? It’s worth a shot and you don’t have much to lose, + they’re probably not even aware that there’s an issue with them.

Or even better, just get a vibrating cock ring.

In the 2000s we had AdSense. So now we’re getting… AISense?

Whenever I get lazy I just throw some seasoned chicken drumsticks in my airfryer and then add some Uncle Ben’s rice. Almost 0 effort.

There’s also group C which I was part of, you just say that you just pooped or scratch your butt whenever they ask you to load/unload and they’ll immediately offer to do that for you instead.

A new "Watch Unlock" feature seems to be rolling out ( bitforged.space )

I just had this notification come up, not sure if it’s exclusive to Pixel Watches (appears to be Pixel Watch exclusive currently) and Pixel phones - but seems to be a more “intelligent” version of Trusted Devices since supposedly the range is shorter, and it requires your watch to be unlocked....

Mystery Google phone sparks Pixel 8a speculation: A big battery upgrade on the horizon? ( www.androidauthority.com )

tl;dr: a testing certificate for a Google phone going by the model name “GH2MB” (similar to those of the Pixel 7a) is suggesting that the Pixel 8a might be getting a 4,942mAh battery. For a comparison, the Pixel 7a has 4,385mAh, the 8 has 4,575mAh and the 8 Pro has 5,050mAh.

It still works using just a web browser. Some might just prefer a native app, which Google is currently rolling out.

I love it, I use it on all of my devices at home and it works flawlessly.

I do forget sometimes that I’m using uBlock Origin 👀. Thanks @JimboDHimbo for the link!

Can I disable multi window shortcuts in Xiaomi Hyper OS? ( lemmy.world )

My Xiaomi tablet just updated from MIUI to Hyper OS (Android 14). I like some improvements, but I don’t use multi window and I’d like to get rid of that three dots thing (top center) since they don’t go away even if a video is playing fullscreen. Even if those pixels on the border are actually video, the three dots stay on...

Me see cat, me upvote 🐈

I don’t have a Xiaomi tablet but you could try what has been suggested in this thread: old.reddit.com/…/how_to_remove_this_3_dots_new_in…

Buy Now Pay Later is what’s exacerbating this. People are dumb, have short attention spans and most of them are statistically bad at basic math, so when they see a purchase that they can make without paying anything now they’ll hit buy and they’ll do it many times as the e-commerce platform will usually recommend other products to them they’ll likely want, they won’t do the calculation to see if they really can afford the split payments + the interest.

I just found an old post from reddit of a guy who suggested people to come here in another post saying he was wrong about lemmy and the lemmy devs are bad ?

I have a lemmy.ml account and i didn’t know that they were bad . I created this account after seeing that post .( I am not into politics as you can see if you visited the account i have put in my bio ) so is that true ?...

Can someone explain like what are the lemmy devs political stance ?

They’re tankies, ie radical communists who support authoritarian regimes like North Korea and the CCP, and fully support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The devs also onboarded someone who openly said many times on October 8th that “all Israelis are valid targets”, “anything that moves and isn’t Palestinian is a valid target” and “there’s no such thing as an Israeli civilian” and he’s still in their team. On their own instance lemmy.ml (their choice of the .ml TLD is a reference to Marxism-Leninism), if you mention the Tiananmen massacre you get banned for “orientalism”, and if you say that Hamas are terrorists you also get banned for “bothsidesing (sic)”.

Does that leave a stain on Lemmy, the open-source project? Yes, for sure, it leaves Lemmy with a very questionable governance, and weird decisions like the absence of any prioritization of work on moderation tools and the very weird and completely random fact that they suddenly disabled sign-up captchas last summer leading to a bot infestation of most instances. Coincidentally, tankie instances like lemmygrad and hexbears rely on brigading, bots, and cyber-harassment to spread their poison, and strong moderation tools would hinder them a lot.

Now does that make it impossible for Lemmy to succeed? No, it’s again an open-source project, and it can be forked away from the tankies at any time. In fact, there’s even a highly credible rewrite in Java currently whose goal is to be 100% API-compatible with Lemmy: sublinks.org (see the announcement here: lemmy.world/post/11005411 )

The lemmy.ca link needs to be opened inside a browser so that you see the thread on that instance. If you try to open it on an app like Voyager it will probably try to redirect you to your local instance, but the problem is that some instances purged it, probably because it quotes literal calls to violence.

Out of curiosity, which one did you get?

But yeah, a case is definitely the first must-buy (went case-free for years, changed my mind recently as I dropped my P7a on concrete for the third time 🙃). No MagSafe ring for mine, but I got a Ringke Onyx case. It’s pretty cheap, looks great and even makes your phone much more pleasant to hold.
