And they're friggin escape artists. If you thought huskies are good at escaping, you've never met a malinois. On the plus side, they're one of the most loyal dogs you'll ever meet.

Edit. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, malinois just take everything to the extreme. When they get excited, you've never seen a dog more excited. When they get protective, they're the most. And so on.

I remember the day when you had to buy Windows separate, and pay full retail. Later, you got a massive discount if you bought the disks with your computer. Then, it came preinstalled. Then, it started to get crappy and more buggy.

Isn't it already illegal to cover your face from above the nose downward in NC? I went there on a business trip a couple years before COVID, and wore a respirator while outside. A cop stopped me and told me that it's against statute to cover my face in public places. I explained to him that I'm not from there and pollen in that state, at least in Charlotte, was horrific. He was understanding, but highly recommend I find another way. I thanked him and we parted ways. I was leaving the next day, so I didn't find another way.

This article makes it sound that they're not going to make it illegal, since it already is, but are, instead, going to make it a higher crime if you commit one while wearing a mask. What I'm gathering, is basically "wear one if you want. But if you commit a misdemeanor while wearing one, it'll be a felony" (or however the scales increase). Did I misunderstand?

I'm fairly certain that the source for this is bank robbers of yore. But this goes under "we do this, because we've always done it that way", and it's the absolute worst reason to keep doing something. I, for one, enjoyed and supported my right to wear masks for the sole reason that it hid a good part of my face. Didn't do much for facial recog, as we saw, but humans have a hard time identifying and remembering faces without seeing a mouth. I knew the masks weren't real respirators and weren't nearly as effective as they could have been (the reason I wore an actual respirator pre COVID and during), but I very much enjoyed the added privacy for everyone nonetheless.

@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

1: the reason I supported them before COVID, during, and now, and the reason I support their legalization.

But...

2: COVID has trained facial recog algorithms to identify masked faces. Those algorithms still have a hard time with identify altering makeup, but don't seem to have any issues with masks. True privacy no longer exists. Freedom to protest in most countries is restricted to public spaces. When you privatize everything (including education), public spaces diminish, and your right to protest with it.

Haha! Oh, man!

It's definitely a skill, but not one I would expect to see on a resumé. I do mention it in interviews, that I don't know everything, but I can find out. Then they ask how, and I say that I know how to use search engines. But I akin it to "keyboarding". It is a skill, but it's something you're expected to know by now and shouldn't be added to a resumé.

Tornadoes Are Coming in Bunches. Scientists Are Trying to Figure Out Why. The number of tornadoes so far in the United States this year is just above average. But their distribution is changing. ( www.nytimes.com )

While the timing of this trend lines up with the planet’s rising temperatures, scientists are hesitant to definitively attribute tornadoes’ clustering behavior to human-caused climate change....

The point is to elicit positive emotions and associate them with a brand.

Then don't interrupt my movie or my pause time, and I won't be pissed at you, then have a seemingly irrational anger-hate when I see you at the store, and refuse to purchase you. There are so many products I won't buy because of this.

I wouldn't say placebo. It's definitely doing something. I would say it's unnecessary in most environments, and probably definitely on a mobile phone. But to lift right out of the article:

You may be wondering if balanced audio is “higher quality” than unbalanced — the answer is no. Balanced cabling doesn't provide a better quality of sound than unbalanced cables. Audio source and the quality of materials in the actual cable's construction determine sound quality more than anything. However, balanced audio does a better job of eliminating noise, should it exist in your signal. In a case where extraneous noise is present, balanced audio will be clearer than unbalanced audio.

01189998819991197253 ,
@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

Hahaha!! I wish! Actually, I have old equipment that only takes the 6.35mm TS (and a couple TRS) connectors, and I don't like adaptors, as they almost always noticeably reduce audio quality.

01189998819991197253 ,
@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah. Maybe I just bought the super cheap ones? Not sure. I ended up getting a 3.5 to 6.35 cable, and haven't had a problem since.

01189998819991197253 ,
@01189998819991197253@infosec.pub avatar

Ah. Yes. I see your original meaning. I misunderstood what you had meant.

Balanced will reduce noise (in terms of RF noise, of course) significantly better than unbalanced, but the source of noise does need to be far enough away from the capturing device to not affect it directly and, therefore, be able to be negated by the balanced cable. However, the end user (listening to balanced vs unbalanced signal on a mobile phone) won't be experiencing a difference between the two (IE placebo affect).

Thanks for clarifying!

I was going off the few pages I read, including the one I linked. I'm far from an expert in this realm, so, really, I don't have any substantial argument for or against what either of us are saying. However, filmography, and the related foley artistry, has always intrigued, and I have learned from experience the differences between using a standard jack and an XLR, and I can say that the sound is vastly cleaner with XLR (at least on a set). The secondary jack on this phone seems to be to XLR what USB-microB is to USB-A (again, going off what I've read). You do make a lot of sense, though, in your posts, so I may be flat wrong here haha

Hahaha!! Like a random red door on the back wall of the basement. "That's just 'the door'. Nothing to worry about, as long as you keep your distance" and quickly walk them off with no further explanation. Hahahahaha

That makes sense. I used to get the adapters from a local shop where I used to live, and they were cheap cheap. Converted to USD, they were probably around $0.10 a piece. He gave them out free when you purchased headphone. After a while I got tired of the static and low sound quality, so I just got a cable (3.5-6.35) on ebay, and it's been fine since.
