Bro, you just (re)invented the cable TV

@BartWronski I assumed this was satire, but I have no idea who that person is. I hope it's satire.

Also...

Why is ChatGPT on a list of streaming services?

and

Where did they find those prices, 2020?

@sillyCoelophysis it's some crypto VC techbro, so I don't think it's a satire

@BartWronski I guess I just forgot that people actually talk like that... 😅

@sillyCoelophysis btw it's hard to disagree (from any political position :) ) that multiple subscriptions became a nightmare and a new form of unsustainable "rent".
But we got there through "bait and switch" and price dumping and then investors looking for more profits. So I'm sure the same VCs will invent a more customer friendly alternative 🤡

@BartWronski @sillyCoelophysis it’s still far better than preexisting single vendor lockin with cable. We have multiple levels of granularity available and while I always prefer fine grained a la carte it’s not realistic to maximize that for everyone given costs.

@mtothevizzah @sillyCoelophysis to me, it was better (despite being more costly than cable) until recently - basically until they started to include ads despite subscriptions.

And there are also some true clowns, like I was looking for a cheap wifi AC controller, and one of two alternatives hides some basic features behind a monthly subscription. (For a system that already costs $80+ per a single simple AC unit controller!)

@BartWronski @mtothevizzah @sillyCoelophysis Well, in my country, you can get something called interactive tv from the telecom operators which is basically cable that let you rewind up to one week in the past. So there is also the in-between thing available.
