@nixCraft that is funny. I worked in Yahoo search and a common complaint from all the engineers was all the crappy ads promoted before the algorithmic search results. I recently despaired of Google search and thought it now looks like Yahoo search results when there were too many ads and even paid for boosts in the algo search results. PR used to run Yahoo Labs and that’s where the ads team lived. It all makes sense now 14 years later.
indie gamedev is spending 3-5 years working on a game with probably at least a couple other people and then you release it and if youre fairly lucky you gross like 20-80 thousand US dollars which works out to $5000 a person a year before tax. it's a very cool and sustainable industry
Software developer: "This task will take at least three months."
PM: "If one engineer needs three months, then twelve engineers should need only one week. I'll request additional staff. We will deliver the project on time."
“Karim Khan’s decision to seek arrest warrants for five people for grave international crimes committed in Israel and Palestine since October 7 in the face of pressure from US lawmakers and others reaffirms the crucial role of the International Criminal Court.” - Balkees Jarrah, associate international justice director, Human Rights Watch
“I have instructed the immediate establishment of a special command center at the Foreign Ministry, with all professional entities, aimed at fighting against the decision intended primarily to shackle Israel's hands and prevent it from exercising its right to self-defense.” - Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz
@halcy@lritter@dragfyre Eh. You would get [-0, 0] if you were using a sign-magnitude or ones' complement representation, but doesn't everybody just use two's complement for integers these days? Which would give [-1, 0].
I've been using a MS Sculpt for the past ~9years as main keyboard, and I fear when it dies I won't find a good replacement. tried others over the years and always come back, it's great. Should probably find a store that has stock for a spare while I still can, just in case.
@djlink I was looking for one recently, but there's a major flaw that completely put me off. It only pairs with the USB dongle it comes with. So much ewaste on eBay. Fully working keyboards with missing dongles sold as "parts only"...
@jahed yeah that's a problem, however I've ran into keyboards that had firmware BR issues etc, disconnecting, and this just works, and I think because there's a dedicated device for it. so in a way it's reliable.
@nixCraft There is also, at least in win 11, other way to stop task-manager to update non-stop. Hamburger menu, Settings, and select Paused at real-time update speed.
@w7voa I'm tellin' ya, brother, America was better before Wall Street owned all the restaurants. Time was a nice eatery was for everybody. You didn't need to call a car or rent clothes for some bullshit theme experience just to see people and talk and enjoy a meal. Those were the 'good old days,' which included theaters without assigned, reserved seats and overpriced tickets.
@w7voa I bet the lobsters are happy, tho. One time my mom made me cry, when I was ten, by telling me about lobsters who visited the restaurants of Disney World. She explained to me that when they were being lowered into the soon-to-be-boiling water that they would exclaim, in small, cute, voices, that Disney World was supposed to be fun, and this wasn’t very fun for the lobster. Do not worry. I was radicalized before this conversation occurred 🦞
Ok, now the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, clearly accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity, I hope that means it's time for the UK, US, Germany, etc to finally drop the support for the gazan genocide. I'm probably too naive, though.
as of today, from 56 requests of a warrant, only two of them has been initially denied by the ICC pre-trial chamber. And both of them were accepted after appealing. So there's zero cases where prosecutor has request a warrant and it hasn't been issued.
