Title is 100/100

Also, free game - not bad

laxe ,

And you invest in Firefox instead of wasting money on flavor of the month hypes

laxe ,

They do this because they need to create “infinite” growth to justify their overvalued stock price

laxe ,

Should’ve named the company Snake Oil Inc.

laxe ,

They lack competition so unfortunately it won’t affect them too much

laxe ,

I much prefer white themes for everything. The reading contrast is great, just like when reading a book.

When working in a properly lighted room, dark themes are an eye sore.

Of course, this is only my personal opinion.

laxe ,

Layoffs are a leadership failure so should always be accompanied by firing them too

laxe ,

Ars is usually better than this. The title for this article makes no sense.

laxe ,

It’s worse short term but better for them long term

laxe ,

I subscribe to very few communities and only browse my home feed. It’s been great so far.

laxe ,

Even posts with 100 upvotes and zero comments have value. It’s a quick way for me to see what’s happening without having to check multiple sources. The comments are just a bonus.

laxe ,

Third party mobile apps can also implement this, it doesn’t have to be done in Lemmy itself.

laxe ,

I notice this much less frequently as time went on. Reddit had the same trend in Digg era.

laxe ,

The opinion monoculture is not specific to Lemmy. Most social platforms, and even real life social circles, live in bubbles.

The Internet anonymity combined with the upvote incentives only make the problem worse.

I agree with your complaint but I don’t see it as something that can be fixed. We can all do our part to engage civilly and respectfully with others, but it won’t be enough to change the culture.

laxe ,

Oh god, please make this a strict inclusion

laxe ,

Gotta juice up those numbers before IPO so executives can sell their stock and leave others to hold the bag

laxe ,

Governments should push UBI, not corporations like Mercedes

laxe ,

Executives care only about their bonuses, and the best way to boost them is to milk companies on the short term even if it ruins them on the long term. There is no incentive to care about long term.

laxe ,

That compensation is reddit stock so let’s see how much it’s worth after the stock price tanks

laxe ,

Lina Khan is taking her role seriously. She needs more time though, let’s hope she’ll have it.

laxe ,

These companies are snake oil salesmen.

Pornhub shuts down in Texas... and predictably, VPNs benefit ( mashable.com )

From the article: “Unsurprisingly, this skyrocketed searches for the best VPNs. According to a SlashGear report sent to Mashable, searches for “Texas VPN” jumped by 1,750 percent in the past day. It also spotted a 1,600 percent increase for the phrase “How to access Pornhub.””

laxe ,

It also costs money. For many people, every monthly fee makes a difference.

While Apple has many issues, their support of older phones is really good. You can replace the battery once and still use the same phone for at least 5-6 years.

My current phone is 4.5 years old and still going strong, with latest software versions.

laxe ,

Of course they know what they’re doing. Everybody knows this, how could they be the only ones that don’t?

laxe ,

I wish you linked to the Mastodon version of this comic, instead of the bird site: mastodon.social/@MrLovenstein/112054862268601490

Just like a movie is already available for download on the Internet but you must still pay to download it. Unless yarrr not a fan of artificial scarcity.

laxe ,

We already built the expensive Internet infrastructure that allows any digital media, including movies, to be delivered to your computer for virtually $0 extra cost. However, even though the infrastructure was built you are “not allowed” to access the digital media unless you pay some arbitrary price.

In your example, having a washer/fridge installed in the house is not that different from having an Internet router installed in your house. In both cases the infrastructure is readily available and costs nothing to use but you cannot access the services for artificial reasons.

I’m obviously not defending Audi as I think it’s a ridiculous concept but this is already happening at a large scale.

I really wish Linux desktop was stable. On Ubuntu 22.04, this year alone I had nvidia driver failures, wake up from sleep issues, crypsetup failing to decrypt the root drive on startup (and dropping to a busybox shell), gnome UI freezing and more.

I’ve been using Linux for over ten years and love it. On servers, it’s rock solid but on desktop it’s hit and miss. The good part is that problems are fixable, it’s just not user friendly.

laxe ,

A choice screen is a baby step that’s not enough to level the playing field.

laxe ,

Nvidia is dominating the AI chip market. If our laws were properly enforced, Nvidia should’ve been too afraid to abuse their market position like this.

laxe ,

True but I’m optimistic about the Fediverse long term.

The value of interoperability is recognized by tech users as well as institutions such as the European Union 🇪🇺. It’s only a matter of time until it reaches critical mass.

laxe ,

I’m curious - for what purpose are you looking to learn C++?

This was my first programming language and I have a special attachment to it but it is definitely on the decline.
