@georgetakei I like to add "aught" to any year from my youth just to sound old. Like, I graduated from high school in nineteen-aught-ninety-seven.

Sounds pretty great, actually.

@georgetakei One of my Second Life avatars is a raccoon woman with pigtails, a flannel shirt tied under her bust and denim high-waist Daisy Dukes who carries around a Pabst Blue Ribbon with a sign above her head that says, "I'm a Trash Panda and I'm in trouble."

2024: OpenAI releases a free virtual assistant with a weirdly flirty voice.

2025: Millions of men become emotionally attached to the AI.

2026: OpenAI threatens to delete your virtual girlfriend if you don't pay a monthly subscription. You must also buy her digital flowers or she will hate you.

Probably could have given it a little more thought.

@georgetakei To be fair, the first European to discover it called it Vinland because the land was fertile and pleasant with "grapes" growing wild. Then again, he'd set from Greenland, by way of Iceland and Norway so his idea of "fertile" and "pleasant" needs context.

@gamingonlinux Me playing Crusader Kings III:

I've done... Questionable things...

But also marvelous things! Revel in your time!

One time I set out, deliberately, to make an anachronistic version of Elizabeth Bathory (she lived about 150 years after the game's end date).

Where's the lie?

harasurya ,
@harasurya@mastodon.social avatar

@georgetakei Chicken nuggets are heavily processed, "boneless wings" are usually cuts of actual meat.

My local grocery chain sells them as "Chicken Breast Chunks" and along with a bottle of wing sauce it's about a third the price of Buffalo Wild Wings and often the same sauce.

<s>Two</s> Three more questions. Please answer both!

  1. When were the "good old days" of the net?

@molly0xfff When I was about 20, I my father was about as old as I am now, he told me that when I got to be his age I'd understand the lyric from Jack and Diane, "Hang onto sixteen as long as you can, changes come round real soon make us women and men" and it didn't mean to act like a teenager.

The older I get the more I realize my parents were right about a lot of things.
