Hey artists on mastodon, what's your favorite apps to use the site and why? I'm done posting my backlog using the browser site, so now i'm ready to figure out how to actually use the site in a way that is a little more pleasant lmao. In particular i'd love if there's a way to view replies as connected to the original post rather than just floating in my timeline, and maybe tips on how to network/find other artists??? i feel like i'm floating in the middle of an empty ocean lmao help
@charlottetangle For the networking topic, you need to use hashtags, they are crucial here.
Since this post does not have any, I would have never seen it nor anyone outside your server, if somebody hadn't boosted it.
Furthermore, they should be kind of specific, not like random stuff you usually see on other social networks.
For example, I follow #Artist and I get those in my feed, but I'd never get something like #HelpMeFindNetworkingTips or such and I believe this is a general user behaviour.
Some apps show you the (the recent, I think) usage of a hashtag, so you can kind of guess if it's used/followed, or it will go to the void.
For instance, Phanpy shows me that #MastoArt it's been used around 1500 times, so chances are that somebody follows it and if you use it, those people will see your post.
At the same time, you can follow hashtags in addition to people, so you get the tagged posts from people you don't know/follow.
This is also how you find new people to connect with, by searching hashtags.
Also check what other people are using to have an idea, but overall you will find the way with time, what works and what doesn't 🙃
